Apostelgeschichte 24
1 Fünf Tage später kam der Hohepriester Ananias mit etlichen Ältesten und einem Anwalt, namens Tertyllus, um beim Statthalter die Klage gegen Paulus vorzubringen.
And after five days came down the chief priest Ananias, with the elders, and a certain orator — Tertullus, and they made manifest to the governor [the things] against Paul;
2 Dieser wurde vorgeladen, und Tertyllus begann mit seiner Anklagerede: "Durch dich erfreuen wir uns tiefen Friedens, deiner Fürsorge verdankt dieses Volk mannigfaltige Verbesserung.
and he having been called, Tertullus began to accuse [him], saying, 'Much peace enjoying through thee, and worthy deeds being done to this nation through thy forethought,
3 Das erkennen wir allzeit und überall mit großer Dankbarkeit an, edler FeIix.
always, also, and everywhere we receive it, most noble Felix, with all thankfulness;
4 Um aber dich nicht länger hinzuhalten, so bitte ich dich: Schenk uns gütigst für kurze Zeit Gehör.
and that I may not be further tedious to thee, I pray thee to hear us concisely in thy gentleness;
5 Wir haben diesen Mann als eine Pest und einen Unruhestifter unter allen Juden auf der Welt erfunden sowie als einen der Hauptführer der Nazarenersekte.
for having found this man a pestilence, and moving a dissension to all the Jews through the world — a ringleader also of the sect of the Nazarenes —
6 Ja, er hat versucht, selbst den Tempel zu entweihen. Deshalb haben wir ihn festgenommen und wollten ihn nach unserem Gesetz richten.
who also the temple did try to profane, whom also we took, and according to our law did wish to judge,
7 Da kam der Tribun Lysias dazwischen, entriß ihn mit großer Gewalt unseren Händen und erklärte, die Ankläger möchten zu dir kommen.
and Lysias the chief captain having come near, with much violence, out of our hands did take away,
8 Du selber wirst von ihm genauere Auskunft erhalten, wenn du ihn über alles verhörst, weswegen wir ihn anklagen."
having commanded his accusers to come to thee, from whom thou mayest be able, thyself having examined, to know concerning all these things of which we accuse him;'
9 Diesen Angaben schlossen sich die Juden an und versicherten, daß es sich so verhalte.
and the Jews also agreed, professing these things to be so.
10 Auf einen Wink des Statthalters ergriff Paulus das Wort zur Entgegnung: "Weil ich weiß, daß du seit langen Jahren schon Richter über dieses Volk bist, deshalb verteidige ich guten Mutes meine Sache.
And Paul answered — the governor having beckoned to him to speak — 'Knowing [that] for many years thou hast been a judge to this nation, the more cheerfully the things concerning myself I do answer;
11 Wie du feststellen lassen kannst, sind es nicht mehr als zwölf Tage her, seitdem ich meine Wallfahrt nach Jerusalem gemacht habe.
thou being able to know that it is not more than twelve days to me since I went up to worship in Jerusalem,
12 Doch weder im Tempel noch in den Synagogen, noch in der Stadt hat man mich angetroffen, daß ich mit jemandem gestritten oder einen Volksaufruhr angestiftet hätte.
and neither in the temple did they find me reasoning with any one, or making a dissension of the multitude, nor in the synagogues, nor in the city;
13 Sie können dir auch keinerlei Beweise für das vorbringen, wessen sie mich jetzt anklagen.
nor are they able to prove against me the things concerning which they now accuse me.
14 Doch das bekenne ich dir: Ich diene nach der Lehre, die sie eine Sekte nennen, dem Gott meiner Väter. Ich glaube alles, was im Gesetz und bei den Propheten geschrieben steht,
'And I confess this to thee, that, according to the way that they call a sect, so serve I the God of the fathers, believing all things that in the law and the prophets have been written,
15 und hege zu Gott die Hoffnung, die diese hier auch teilen, daß es einstens eine Auferstehung der Gerechten und der Ungerechten geben wird.
having hope toward God, which they themselves also wait for, [that] there is about to be a rising again of the dead, both of righteous and unrighteous;
16 Deshalb befleißige ich mich auch selbst, vor Gott und den Menschen durchweg mir ein reines Gewissen zu bewahren.
and in this I do exercise myself, to have a conscience void of offence toward God and men always.
17 Nach Verlauf mehrerer Jahre bin ich hinaufgezogen, um meinem Volk Almosen auszuteilen und Opfer und Gelübde darzubringen.
'And after many years I came, about to do kind acts to my nation, and offerings,
18 Als ich im Tempel mich dabei einer Weihe unterzog, doch ohne Lärm und Auflauf,
in which certain Jews from Asia did find me purified in the temple, not with multitude, nor with tumult,
19 da trafen mich einige Juden aus Asien an. Die hätten vor dir erscheinen und klagen müssen, wenn sie etwas gegen mich wüßten.
whom it behoveth to be present before thee, and to accuse, if they had anything against me,
20 Oder die hier mögen doch angeben, welches Vergehen sie an mir fanden, als ich vor dem Hohen Rate stand.
or let these same say if they found any unrighteousness in me in my standing before the sanhedrim,
21 Es müßte denn dies eine Wort nur sein, das ich, als ich vor ihnen stand, laut ausrief: 'Der Auferstehung von den Toten wegen stehe ich heute vor euch als Angeklagter.'"
except concerning this one voice, in which I cried, standing among them — Concerning a rising again of the dead I am judged to-day by you.'
22 Obwohl Felix eine genaue Kenntnis der in Frage stehenden Lehre hatte, vertagte er doch die Sache und sagte: "Wenn der Befehlshaber Lysias herabkommt, werde ich euren Fall genauer untersuchen."
And having heard these things, Felix delayed them — having known more exactly of the things concerning the way — saying, 'When Lysias the chief captain may come down, I will know fully the things concerning you;'
23 Er gab dem Hauptmann die Weisung, ihn in milder Haft zu halten und keinen von den Seinigen zu hindern, ihm Dienste zu leisten.
having given also a direction to the centurion to keep Paul, to let [him] also have liberty, and to forbid none of his own friends to minister or to come near to him.
24 Einige Tage später kam Felix mit seiner Gemahlin Drusilla, einer Jüdin; er ließ den Paulus rufen und hörte ihn an über den Glauben an Christus Jesus.
And after certain days, Felix having come with Drusilla his wife, being a Jewess, he sent for Paul, and heard him concerning the faith toward Christ,
25 Da er aber von Gerechtigkeit, Enthaltsamkeit und dem künftigen Gerichte sprach, ward Felix betroffen und sagte: "Für jetzt kannst du gehen; wenn ich einmal Zeit habe, werde ich dich wieder rufen lassen."
and he reasoning concerning righteousness, and temperance, and the judgment that is about to be, Felix, having become afraid, answered, 'For the present be going, and having got time, I will call for thee;'
26 Zugleich hoffte er auch, von Paulus Geld zu erhalten. Deshalb ließ er ihn auch öfters kommen und unterhielt sich mit ihm.
and at the same time also hoping that money shall be given to him by Paul, that he may release him, therefore, also sending for him the oftener, he was conversing with him;
27 Volle zwei Jahre später erhielt Felix in Porzius Festus einen Nachfolger. Felix wollte sich die Juden zum Dank verpflichten und ließ darum Paulus in der Gefangenschaft zurück.
and two years having been fulfilled, Felix received a successor, Porcius Festus; Felix also willing to lay a favour on the Jews, left Paul bound.
