2 Chronik 32

1 Nach diesen Begebnissen und solcher Treue kam der Assyrerkönig Sanherib. Er kam nach Juda und belagerte die festen Städte. Er gedachte, sie für sich zu erobern.

After these things, and this faithfulness, Sennacherib king of Assyria came, and entered into Judah, and camped against the fortified cities, and thought to win them for himself.

2 Als Ezechias sah, daß Sanherib gekommen war und Jerusalem erobern wollte,

When Hezekiah saw that Sennacherib had come, and that he intended to fight against Jerusalem,

3 beschloß er, mit seinen Obersten und Kriegern die Quellwasser außerhalb der Stadt zu verstopfen. Und sie stimmten ihm bei.

he took counsel with his princes and his mighty men to stop the waters of the springs which were outside of the city; and they helped him.

4 Da sammelte sich viel Volk und verstopfte alle Quellen und den Bach, der die Gegend durchfließt. Sie sagten: "Wozu sollen die Assyrerkönige kommen und soviel Wasser finden?"

So many people gathered together, and they stopped all the springs, and the brook that flowed through the midst of the land, saying, "Why should the kings of Assyria come, and find much water?"

5 Dann rüstete er sich. Er baute die ganze geborstene Mauer auf, errichtete darauf Türme und draußen die andere Mauer. Dann befestigte er die Bastei in der Davidsstadt und machte Schleudern und Schilde in Menge.

He took courage, and built up all the wall that was broken down, and raised towers upon it, and the other wall outside, and strengthened Millo in the City of David, and made weapons and shields in abundance.

6 Dann setzte er Kriegsoberste über das Volk. Und er versammelte sie zu sich auf den Platz am Stadttore. Er redete ihnen freundlich zu und sprach:

He set captains of war over the people, and gathered them together to him in the broad place at the gate of the city, and spoke comfortably to them, saying,

7 "Seid mutig und stark! Seid getrost! Erschreckt nicht vor dem Assyrerkönig und nicht vor dem ganzen Haufen, den er mit sich führt! Denn mit uns ist ein Größerer als mit ihm.

"Be strong and courageous, do not be afraid nor dismayed for the king of Assyria, nor for all the multitude who is with him; for there is a greater with us than with him.

8 Mit ihm ist ein fleischerner Arm. Mit uns aber der Herr, unser Gott, um uns zu helfen und unsere Kriege zu führen." Da verließ sich das Volk auf die Worte des Judakönigs Ezechias.

With him is an arm of flesh; but with us is the LORD our God to help us, and to fight our battles." The people rested themselves on the words of Hezekiah king of Judah.

9 Später hatte der Assyrerkönig Sanherib seine Knechte nach Jerusalem gesandt. Er selbst aber stand vor Lakis mit seiner ganzen Macht. So sandte er zu dem Judakönig Ezechias und zu ganz Juda in Jerusalem und ließ sagen:

After this, Sennacherib king of Assyria sent his servants to Jerusalem, (now he was before Lachish, and all his power with him), to Hezekiah king of Judah, and to all Judah who were at Jerusalem, saying,

10 "So spricht Sanherib, Assyriens König: 'Worauf vertraut ihr, daß ihr euch in Jerusalem belagern lasset?

Thus says Sennacherib king of Assyria, "In whom do you trust, that you remain under siege in Jerusalem?

11 Verführt euch nicht Ezechias und läßt euch vor Hunger und Durst sterben, wenn er spricht: "Der Herr, unser Gott, rettet uns aus des Assyrerkönigs Hand?"

Doesn't Hezekiah persuade you, to give you over to die by famine and by thirst, saying, 'The LORD our God will deliver us out of the hand of the king of Assyria?'

12 Hat nicht dieser Ezechias seine Höhen und Altäre beseitigt und zu Juda und Jerusalem gesprochen: "Ihr sollt vor einem Altar anbeten und nur auf ihm räuchern?"

Hasn't the same Hezekiah taken away his high places and his altars, and commanded Judah and Jerusalem, saying, 'You shall worship before one altar, and on it you shall burn incense?'

13 Wißt ihr nicht, was ich und meine Väter allen Völkern der Erde getan haben? Haben der Heiden Götter in den Ländern ihr Land aus meiner Hand retten können?

Do you not know what I and my fathers have done to all the peoples of the lands? Were the gods of the nations of the lands in any way able to deliver their land out of my hand?

14 Wer von all den Göttern dieser Heiden, die meine Väter vertilgten, hat sein Volk aus meiner Hand gerettet? Da sollte euer Gott euch aus meiner Hand retten?

Who was there among all the gods of those nations which my fathers utterly destroyed, that could deliver his people out of my hand, that your God should be able to deliver you out of my hand?

15 So betöre euch jetzt nicht Ezechias und verführe euch nicht auf solche Art! Glaubt ihm nicht! Denn kein Gott irgendeines Volkes oder Reiches konnte sein Volk aus meiner und meiner Väter Hand retten. Auch will euer Gott euch aus meiner Hand gar nicht retten.'"

Now therefore do not let Hezekiah deceive you, nor persuade you in this way, neither believe him; for no god of any nation or kingdom was able to deliver his people out of my hand, and out of the hand of my fathers. How much less will your God deliver you out of my hand?"

16 Solches und noch mehr redeten seine Knechte wider Gott, den Herrn, und gegen seinen Diener Ezechias.

His servants spoke yet more against the LORD God, and against his servant Hezekiah.

17 Auch einen Brief schrieb er, um den Herrn, Israels Gott zu lästern und wider ihn zu reden: "Sowenig in den Ländern die Heidengötter ihr Volk aus meiner Hand retteten, ebensowenig kann des Ezechias Gott sein Volk aus meiner Hand retten."

He also wrote letters insulting the LORD, the God of Israel, and to speak against him, saying, "As the gods of the nations of the lands, which have not delivered their people out of my hand, so shall the God of Hezekiah not deliver his people out of my hand."

18 Sie riefen auch mit lauter Stimme auf jüdisch zum Volke Jerusalems auf der Mauer, um es in Furcht und Schrecken zu setzen und um so die Stadt zu erobern.

They cried with a loud voice in the Jews' language to the people of Jerusalem who were on the wall, to frighten them, and to trouble them; that they might take the city.

19 Sie redeten von dem Gott Jerusalems wie von der Erdenvölker Göttern, dem Werk von Menschenhänden.

They spoke of the God of Jerusalem, as of the gods of the peoples of the earth, which are the work of men's hands.

20 Nun beteten der König Ezechias und der Prophet Isaias, des Amos Sohn, dieserhalb und schrien zum Himmel.

Hezekiah the king, and Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz, prayed because of this, and cried to heaven.

21 Da sandte der Herr einen Engel und tilgte alle Krieger, Heerführer und Obersten im Lager des Assyrerkönigs. Schmachbedeckt kehrte er in sein Land. Als er in das Haus seines Gottes ging, fällten ihn einige leibliche Abkömmlinge dort durch das Schwert.

The LORD sent an angel, who cut off all the mighty men of valor, and the leaders and captains, in the camp of the king of Assyria. So he returned with shame of face to his own land. When he had come into the house of his god, some of his own offspring killed him there with the sword.

22 So rettete der Herr den Ezechias und Jerusalems Einwohner aus der Hand des Assyrerkönigs Sanherib und aus der Hand aller anderen und gab ihnen ringsum Ruhe.

Thus the LORD saved Hezekiah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem from the hand of Sennacherib the king of Assyria, and from the hand of all others, and gave them rest on every side.

23 Viele brachten dem Herrn Gaben nach Jerusalem und dem Judakönig Ezechias Kleinodien, und er wurde danach in aller Heiden Augen hochangesehen.

Many brought gifts to the LORD to Jerusalem, and precious things to Hezekiah king of Judah; so that he was exalted in the sight of all nations from thenceforth.

24 Zu jener Zeit wurde Ezechias todkrank. Da betete er zum Herrn. Und er sprach mit ihm und gab ihm ein Wunderzeichen.

In those days Hezekiah was sick even to death: and he prayed to the LORD; and he spoke to him, and gave him a sign.

25 Aber Ezechias vergalt nicht die Wohltat, die ihm widerfahren war. Denn er ward hochmütig. Darum kam grimmer Zorn über ihn und über Juda und Jerusalem.

But Hezekiah did not render again according to the benefit done to him; for his heart was lifted up: therefore there was wrath on him, and on Judah and Jerusalem.

26 Dann erst demütigte sich Ezechias in seinem Hochmut, er und Jerusalems Bewohner. So war des Herrn grimmer Zorn nicht über sie in Ezechias Tagen gekommen.

Notwithstanding Hezekiah humbled himself for the pride of his heart, both he and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so that the wrath of the LORD did not come on them in the days of Hezekiah.

27 Ezechias besaß aber sehr großen Reichtum und Prunk. Er legte sich Schatzkammern an für Silber, Gold, Edelsteine, Spezereien, Schilde und allerlei kostbare Geräte

Hezekiah had a very great amount of riches and honor: and he provided him treasuries for silver, and for gold, and for precious stones, and for spices, and for shields, and for all kinds of goodly vessels;

28 und Speicher für den Ertrag an Korn, Wein und Öl, Ställe für allerlei Vieh und Scharen tüchtiger Leute.

storehouses also for the increase of grain and new wine and oil; and stalls for all kinds of animals, and flocks in folds.

29 Er beschaffte sich Ställe, dazu großen Besitz an Schafen und Rindern. Denn Gott gab ihm überaus viel Habe.

Moreover he provided him cities, and possessions of flocks and herds in abundance; for God had given him very much substance.

30 Derselbe Ezechias war es auch, der den oberen Ausfluß der Gewässer des Gichon verstopfte und sie westwärts in die Davidsstadt hinableitete. Ezechias hatte bei all seinem Tun Glück.

This same Hezekiah also stopped the upper spring of the waters of Gihon, and brought them straight down on the west side of the City of David. Hezekiah prospered in all his works.

31 Nur bei den Gesandten der Babelfürsten, die sie zu ihm geschickt hatten, nach dem Wunder, das im Lande geschehen, zu fragen, verließ ihn Gott, um ihn zu prüfen und sein ganzes Herz zu erkunden.

However concerning the ambassadors of the princes of Babylon, who sent to him to inquire of the wonder that was done in the land, God left him, to try him, that he might know all that was in his heart.

32 Der Rest der Geschichte des Ezechias und seine tapferen Taten sind in dem Gesicht des Propheten Isaias, des Amossohnes, im Buch der Könige von Juda und Israel aufgezeichnet.

Now the rest of the acts of Hezekiah, and his good deeds, look, they are written in the vision of Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz, in the book of the kings of Judah and Israel.

33 Ezechias legte sich zu seinen Vätern, und man begrub ihn am Aufstieg zu den Gräbern der Davidsöhne. Ganz Juda und Jerusalems Einwohner erwiesen ihm bei seinem Tode Ehre. Sein Sohn Manasse ward König an seiner Statt.

Hezekiah slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the ascent of the tombs of the sons of David: and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem did him honor at his death. Manasseh his son reigned in his place.
