1 Samuel 28
1 In jener Zeit sammelten die Philister ihr Heer zu einem Feldzug, um mit Israel zu streiten. Da sprach Akis zu David: "Du weißt, daß du mit mir im Heere ausrücken mußt, du und deine Leute."
It came about in those days that the Philistines gathered their armies together for battle to fight with Israel. Achish said to David, “Know for certain that you will go out with me in the host, you and your men.”
2 Da sprach David zu Akis: "Gut! Du wirst sehen, was dein Knecht leistet." Da sprach Akis zu David: "Gut! Ich ernenne dich zu meinem Leibwächter für alle Zeit."
David said to Achish, “So you will know what your servant can do.” Achish said to David, “So I will make you my bodyguard all your days.”
3 Samuel aber war gestorben; da betrauerte ihn ganz Israel und bestattete ihn auf der Rama in seiner Stadt. Saul aber hatte die Totenbeschwörer und Wahrsager aus dem Lande gejagt.
Now Samuel had died, and all Israel had lamented him and buried him in Ramah, in his own city. Also, Saul had banned from the land those who talked with the dead or with spirits.
4 Nun sammelten sich die Philister, kamen und lagerten bei Sunem. Da bot Saul ganz Israel auf, und sie lagerten auf dem Gilboa.
Then the Philistines gathered themselves together and came and camped at Shunem; and Saul gathered all Israel together, and they camped at Gilboa.
5 Als aber Saul das Philisterlager erblickte, geriet er in Angst, und sein Herz bebte gewaltig.
When Saul saw the army of the Philistines, he was afraid, and his heart trembled very much.
6 Da befragte Saul den Herrn. Aber der Herr gab ihm keine Antwort, weder durch Träume noch durch die Urim noch durch die Propheten.
Saul prayed to Yahweh for help, but Yahweh did not answer him—neither by dreams, nor by Urim, nor by prophets.
7 Da sprach Saul zu seinen Dienern: "Sucht mir ein Weib, das einen Totengeist hat! Ich will zu ihr gehen und sie befragen." Da sprachen seine Diener zu ihm: "Ein Weib, das einen Totengeist hat, ist zu En Dor."
Then Saul said to his servants, “Find me a woman who talks with the dead, so that I may go to her and seek her advice.” His servants said to him, “See, there is a woman in Endor who claims to talk with the dead.”
8 Da vermummte sich Saul, zog andere Kleider an und ging hin, zwei Männer bei sich. So kamen sie des Nachts zu dem Weibe. Er sprach: "Wahrsage mir mit dem Totengeist und laß mir einen erscheinen, den ich dir nennen werde!"
Saul disguised himself, put on other clothing, and went, he and two men with him; they went to the woman by night. He said, “Divine for me, I beg you, with a spirit, and bring me up whomever I name to you.”
9 Da sprach das Weib zu ihm: "Du weißt selbst, was Saul getan, daß er die Totenbeschwörer und Wahrsager im Lande ausgerottet hat. Warum legst du meinem Leben eine Schlinge, mich zu töten?"
The woman said to him, “See, you know what Saul has done, how he has banned from the land those who talk with the dead or with spirits. So why are you setting a trap for my life, to make me die?”
10 Da schwur ihr Saul beim Herrn: "So wahr der Herr lebt! Dich trifft kein Schaden in dieser Sache."
Saul swore to her by Yahweh and said, “As Yahweh lives, no punishment will happen to you for this thing.”
11 Da sprach das Weib: "Wen soll ich dir erscheinen lassen?" Er sprach: "Laß mir Samuel erscheinen!"
Then the woman said, “Whom should I bring up to you?” Saul said, “Bring up Samuel for me.”
12 Da sah das Weib Samuel. Und sie schrie laut auf. Dann sprach das Weib zu Saul: "Warum betrügst du mich? Du selbst bist Saul."
When the woman saw Samuel, she cried with a loud voice and spoke to Saul, saying, “Why have you deceived me? For you are Saul.”
13 Da sprach zu ihr der König: "Sei ohne Furcht! Was siehst du?" Da sprach das Weib zu Saul: "Ich sehe etwas Überirdisches aus dem Boden steigen."
The king said to her, “Do not be afraid. What do you see?” The woman said to Saul, “I see a god coming up out of the earth.”
14 Da fragte er: "Wie sieht es aus?" Sie sprach: "Ein alter Mann steigt herauf, in eine Kutte gehüllt." Da erkannte Saul, daß es Samuel war. Er neigte sich mit dem Antlitz zu Boden und verbeugte sich.
He said to her, “What does he look like?” She said, “An old man is coming up; he is clothed with a robe.” Saul perceived that it was Samuel, and he bowed with his face to the ground and showed respect.
15 Da sprach Samuel zu Saul: "Warum störst du mich, daß du mich erscheinen lässest?" Da sprach Saul: "Mir ist sehr bange. Die Philister kämpfen gegen mich. Nun ist Gott von mir gewichen und antwortet mir nicht mehr, weder durch die Propheten noch durch Träume. So ließ ich dich rufen, daß du mir kündest, was ich tun soll."
Samuel said to Saul, “Why have you disturbed me and brought me up?” Saul answered, “I am very distressed, for the Philistines are waging war against me, and God has left me and does not answer me any more, neither by prophets, nor by dreams. Therefore I have called you, that you may make known to me what I will do.”
16 Da sprach Samuel: "Was fragst du mich, wenn der Herr von dir gewichen und dein Feind geworden ist?
Samuel said, “What then do you ask me, since Yahweh has left you, and he has become your enemy?
17 Der Herr tut dir, wie er durch mich verkündet hat: Der Herr reißt dir das Königtum aus der Hand und gibt es deinem Nebenbuhler David.
Yahweh has done to you what he said he would. Yahweh has torn the kingdom out of your hand and he has given it to someone else—to David.
18 Weil du auf des Herrn Stimme nicht gehört und seinen grimmen Zorn an Amalek nicht vollstreckt hast, deshalb tut dir der Herr dies heute.
Because you did not obey the voice of Yahweh and did not carry out his fierce wrath on Amalek, he has therefore done this today to you.
19 Der Herr gibt auch Israel samt dir in der Philister Hand. Morgen bist du mit deinen Söhnen bei mir. Auch Israels Heer gibt der Herr in die Hand der Philister."
Yahweh will give Israel along with you into the hand of the Philistines, and tomorrow you and your sons will be with me. Yahweh will also give the army of Israel into the hand of the Philistines.”
20 Alsbald fiel Saul seiner ganzen Länge nach zu Boden, so heftig erschrak er über Samuels Worte. Auch hatte er keine Kraft mehr; denn er hatte den ganzen Tag und die ganze Nacht nichts gegessen.
Then Saul immediately fell his full length on the ground and was very afraid because of the words of Samuel. There was no strength in him, for he had eaten no food all that day, neither that whole night.
21 Da trat das Weib zu Saul hin und sah, daß er ganz entsetzt war. Da sprach sie zu ihm: "Deine Sklavin hat deiner Stimme gehorcht. Ich wagte mein Leben und hörte auf deine Worte, die du zu mir gesprochen.
The woman came to Saul and saw that he was very troubled, She said to him, “See, your woman servant has listened to your voice; I have put my life in my hand and have listened to the words that you said to me.
22 Nun höre auch du auf deiner Sklavin Stimme! Ich will dir einen Bissen Brot vorsetzen. Diesen iß, daß Kraft in dir sei, deines Weges zu ziehen."
Now therefore, I beg you, listen also to the voice of your woman servant, and let me set a little food in front of you. Eat so that you may gain strength for when you go on your way.”
23 Er aber weigerte sich und sprach: "Ich esse nichts." Da drangen seine Diener in ihn, ebenso das Weib, und so hörte er auf ihre Stimme. Er stand vom Boden auf und setzte sich auf das Polster.
But Saul refused and said, “I will not eat.” But his servants, together with the woman, compelled him, and he listened to their voice. So he rose from the ground and sat on the bed.
24 Nun hatte das Weib ein Mastkalb im Hause. Sie schlachtete es rasch, nahm Mehl, knetete es und buk daraus Brotkuchen.
The woman had a fatted calf in the house; she hurried and killed it; she took flour, kneaded it, and baked unleavened bread with it.
25 Dann setzte sie es Saul und seinen Dienern vor, und sie aßen. Hernach standen sie auf und gingen in der gleichen Nacht noch fort.
She brought it before Saul and his servants, and they ate. Then they got up and left that night.
