1 Petrus 4
1 Da Christus also im Fleische gelitten hat, so wappnet auch ihr euch mit ähnlicher Gesinnung. Wer im Fleische gelitten hat, der ist von der Sünde frei
Christ therefore having suffered in the flesh, be you also armed with the same thought: for he that hath suffered in the flesh, hath ceased from sins:
2 und bringt die Zeit, die ihm im Fleische noch verbleibt, nicht mehr im Dienste menschlicher Gelüste, vielmehr nach dem Willen Gottes zu.
That now he may live the rest of his time in the flesh, not after the desires of men, but according to the will of God.
3 Es genügt ja, daß wir in der vergangenen Lebenszeit der Sinnesrichtung der Heiden folgten und so dahinlebten in Ausschweifungen und Lüsten, in Trunkenheit und Schmausereien, in Gelagen und in frevelhaftem Götzendienst.
For the time past is sufficient to have fulfilled the will of the Gentiles, for them who have walked in riotousness, lusts, excess of wine, revellings, banquetings, and unlawful worshipping of idols.
4 Nun fällt es den Heiden auf, daß ihr nicht mehr mitmacht bei diesem wüsten, zügellosen Treiben; deswegen lästern sie.
Wherein they think it strange, that you run not with them into the same confusion of riotousness, speaking evil of you.
5 Sie aber werden Rechenschaft dem geben müssen, der sich bereit hält, Lebende und Tote zu richten.
Who shall render account to him, who is ready to judge the living and the dead.
6 Deswegen wurde auch den Toten das Evangelium verkündet, daß, wenn sie auch nach Menschenschicksal dem Leibe nach gerichtet sind, sie doch der Seele nach leben, wie Gott es will.
For, for this cause was the gospel preached also to the dead: that they might be judged indeed according to men, in the flesh; but may live according to God, in the Spirit.
7 Das Ende aller Dinge ist nahe. So seid besonnen und seid nüchtern, damit ihr beten könnt.
But the end of all is at hand. Be prudent therefore, and watch in prayers.
8 Vor allem aber heget eine starke Liebe zueinander; die Liebe bedeckt ja eine Menge Sünden.
But before all things have a constant mutual charity among yourselves: for charity covereth a multitude of sins.
9 Seid gegenseitig gastfreundlich ohne Murren.
Using hospitality one towards another, without murmuring,
10 Dient einander mit der Gnadengabe, wie sie ein jeder empfangen hat, als treue Sachwalter der mannigfachen Gnade Gottes.
As every man hath received grace, ministering the same one to another: as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.
11 Wer die Redegabe hat, der trage seine Worte als Worte Gottes vor; und wer ein Amt besitzt, verwalte es aus der Kraft, die Gott verleiht; damit in allem Gott verherrlicht werde durch Jesus Christus, dem Herrlichkeit und Macht gebührt von Ewigkeit zu Ewigkeiten. Amen. (aiōn g165)
If any man speak, let him speak, as the words of God. If any man minister, let him do it, as of the power, which God administereth: that in all things God may be honoured through Jesus Christ: to whom is glory and empire for ever and ever. Amen. (aiōn g165)
12 Geliebte! Laßt euch nicht befremden durch die Feuerprobe, die ihr erduldet, als ob euch damit etwas Ungewöhnliches geschähe.
Dearly beloved, think not strange the burning heat which is to try you, as if some new thing happened to you;
13 Freut euch vielmehr im gleichen Maße, in dem ihr an den Leiden Christi Teil bekommt, damit, wenn seine Herrlichkeit sich offenbart, ihr dann auch mit Frohlocken jubeln könnt.
But if you partake of the sufferings of Christ, rejoice that when his glory shall be revealed, you may also be glad with exceeding joy.
14 Wenn ihr um des Namens Christi willen Schmähungen erleidet, dann seid ihr selig. Dann ruht der Geist der Herrlichkeit, ja, Gottes Geist auf euch.
If you be reproached for the name of Christ, you shall be blessed: for that which is of the honour, glory, and power of God, and that which is his Spirit, resteth upon you.
15 Doch keiner unter euch darf leiden, weil er ein Mörder, ein Dieb oder ein Verbrecher wäre, oder einer, dem es nach fremdem Gute gelüstet.
But let none of you suffer as a murderer, or a thief, or a railer, or a coveter of other men’s things.
16 Wer aber leiden muß als Christ, der braucht sich dessen nicht zu schämen; er preise vielmehr Gott ob dieses Namens.
But if as a Christian, let him not be ashamed, but let him glorify God in that name.
17 Jetzt ist die Zeit, da das Gericht beim Hause Gottes schon beginnt. Wenn nun zuerst bei uns, wie mag dann das Ende derer sein, die dem Evangelium Gottes nicht gehorchen?
For the time is, that judgment should begin at the house of God. And if first at us, what shall be the end of them that believe not the gospel of God?
18 Und wird schon der Gerechte kaum gerettet, wo werden der Frevler und der Sünder alsdann bleiben?
And if the just man shall scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear?
19 So sollen die, die nach dem Willen Gottes leiden, ihre Seelen dem getreuen Schöpfer durch ein tugendhaftes Leben anbefehlen.
Wherefore let them also that suffer according to the will of God, commend their souls in good deeds to the faithful Creator.
