1 Die Zeit kam nun heran, daß David sterben sollte. Da gab er seinem Sohne Salomo folgende Weisungen:

And the days of David were at hand that he should die; and he enjoined Solomon his son saying,

2 "Ich gehe den Weg der ganzen Welt. Sei getrost und sei ein Mann!

I go the way of all the earth: be of good courage therefore, and be a man;

3 Beobachte die Satzungen des Herrn, deines Gottes! Wandle auf seinen Wegen und halte seine Gebote, Gesetze, Vorschriften und Gebräuche, wie es in der Lehre Mosis geschrieben steht, auf daß du Glück habest bei allem, was du tust und wohin du dich wendest!

and keep the charge of Jehovah thy God, to walk in his ways, to keep his statutes, and his commandments, and his ordinances, and his testimonies, as it is written in the law of Moses, that thou mayest prosper in all that thou doest and whithersoever thou turnest thyself;

4 Auf daß der Herr sein Wort erfülle, das er über mich also gesprochen: 'Wenn deine Söhne auf ihren Wandel achten, um treulich vor mir zu wandeln, aus ganzem Herzen und aus ganzer Seele, so fehlt es dir niemals an einem Mann auf Israels Thron!'

that Jehovah may confirm his word which he spoke concerning me, saying, If thy sons take heed to their way, to walk before me in truth with all their heart and with all their soul, there shall not fail thee, said he, a man upon the throne of Israel.

5 Weiter weißt du selbst, was mir Serujas Sohn Joab angetan, was er getan hat den beiden Heeresobersten Israels, Ners Sohn Abner und Amasa, Jeters Sohn. Er ermordete sie. Er vergoß Kriegsblut im Frieden. Er brachte Kriegsblut an den Gurt um seine Hüfte und an seinen Schuh an seinem Fuß.

And thou knowest also what Joab the son of Zeruiah did to me, what he did to the two captains of the hosts of Israel, to Abner the son of Ner, and to Amasa the son of Jether, whom he slew, and shed the blood of war in peace, and put the blood of war upon his girdle that was about his loins, and upon his sandals that were on his feet.

6 Tu nach deinem weisen Ermessen! Du darfst aber den Graukopf nicht im Frieden in die Unterwelt hinabsteigen lassen. (Sheol h7585)

And thou shalt do according to thy wisdom, and not let his hoar head go down to Sheol in peace. (Sheol h7585)

7 Aber den Söhnen des Gileaditers Barzillai sollst du Huld erweisen! Sie seien unter deinen Tischgenossen! Denn sie sind zu mir gekommen, als ich vor deinem Bruder Absalom floh.

But shew kindness to the sons of Barzillai the Gileadite, and let them be of those that eat at thy table; for so they came up to me when I fled because of Absalom thy brother.

8 Nun ist bei dir noch Simei, der Sohn des Gera und Enkel Hajeminis, aus Bachurim. Er hat mir in schlimmster Weise geflucht, als ich nach Machanaim ging. Später aber ist er mir am Jordan entgegengekommen. Da schwur ich beim Herrn: 'Ich werde dich nicht mit dem Schwerte töten.'

And behold, there is with thee Shimei the son of Gera, the Benjaminite of Bahurim, who cursed me with a grievous curse in the day that I went to Mahanaim; but he came down to meet me at the Jordan, and I swore to him by Jehovah saying, I will not put thee to death with the sword.

9 Nun laß ihn nicht ungestraft! Du bist ein weiser Mann und weißt, was du ihm tun mußt, daß du sein graues Haar mit Blut in die Unterwelt binabsendest." (Sheol h7585)

And now hold him not guiltless; for thou art a wise man, and thou shalt know what thou oughtest to do to him; but bring his hoar head down to Sheol with blood. (Sheol h7585)

10 Dann legte sich David zu seinen Vätern und ward in der Davidsstadt begraben.

And David slept with his fathers, and was buried in the city of David.

11 Die Zeit, die David über Israel geherrscht hatte, betrug vierzig Jahre. Zu Hebron hatte er sieben Jahre regiert und zu Jerusalem dreiunddreißig Jahre.

And the days that David reigned over Israel were forty years: he reigned seven years in Hebron, and he reigned thirty-three years in Jerusalem.

12 Salomo saß nun auf dem Throne seines Vaters David, und seine Herrschaft ward immer fester.

And Solomon sat on the throne of David his father; and his kingdom was established greatly.

13 Da kam Chaggits Sohn Adonias zu Salomos Mutter Batseba. Sie fragte: "Kommst du im Frieden?" Er sprach: "Ja."

And Adonijah the son of Haggith came to Bathsheba the mother of Solomon. And she said, Comest thou peaceably? And he said, Peaceably.

14 Dann sprach er: "Ich habe mit dir etwas zu reden!" Sie sprach: "Rede!"

And he said, I have something to say to thee. And she said, Speak.

15 Er sprach: "Du weißt selbst, daß das Königtum mein gewesen und ganz Israel erwartet hat, ich würde König; wie es dann anders kam und das Königtum meinem Bruder zufiel. Denn vorn Herrn ist es ihm bestimmt gewesen.

And he said, Thou knowest that the kingdom was mine, and all Israel had set their faces on me that I should reign; but the kingdom is turned about and is become my brother's, for it was his from Jehovah.

16 Nun habe ich eine einzige Bitte an dich. Weise mich nicht ab!" Sie sprach zu ihm: "Rede!"

And now I ask one petition of thee; refuse me not. And she said to him, Speak.

17 Er sprach: "Sprich mit dem König Salomo! Dich wird er ja nicht abweisen. Er soll mir die Sunamitin Abisag zum Weibe geben."

And he said, Speak, I pray thee, to Solomon the king — for he will not refuse thee — that he give me Abishag the Shunammite as wife.

18 Da sprach Batseba: "Gut! Ich will deinetwegen mit dem König sprechen."

And Bathsheba said, Well, I will speak for thee to the king.

19 Und Batseba kam zum König Salomo, mit ihm wegen des Adonias zu reden. Da stand der König auf, ging ihr entgegen, neigte sich vor ihr und setzte sich auf seinen Thron. Hierauf ließ er für die Königinmutter einen Thronsessel hinstellen und sie setze sich zu seiner Rechten.

And Bathsheba went to king Solomon, to speak to him for Adonijah. And the king rose up to meet her, and bowed himself to her, and sat down on his throne; and he caused a throne to be set for the king's mother, and she sat on his right hand.

20 Dann sprach sie: "Ich habe eine kleine Bitte an dich. Weise mich nicht ab!" Der König sprach zu ihr: "Bitte nur, meine Mutter! Ich werde dich doch nicht abweisen."

Then she said, I desire one small petition of thee; refuse me not. And the king said to her, Ask, my mother, for I will not refuse thee.

21 Da sprach sie: "Man gebe die Sunamitin Abisag deinem Bruder Adonias zum Weibe!"

And she said, Let Abishag the Shunammite be given to Adonijah thy brother as wife.

22 Da erwiderte der König Salomo und sprach zu seiner Mutter: "Ei, warum bittest du für Adonias bloß um die Sunamitin Abisag? Bitte doch lieber gleich um das Königtum für ihn! Er ist ja mein älterer Bruder, und auf seiner Seite stehen der Priester Ebjatar und Joab, der Serujasohn.

And king Solomon answered and said to his mother, And why dost thou ask Abishag the Shunammite for Adonijah? ask for him the kingdom also; for he is mine elder brother; even for him, and for Abiathar the priest, and for Joab the son of Zeruiah.

23 Dann schwur der König Salomo also dem Herrn: "Gott tue mir das und das, wenn Adonias aus sich selbst dies Wort gesprochen hat!

And king Solomon swore by Jehovah saying, God do so to me, and more also, — Adonijah has spoken this word against his own life!

24 Nun, so wahr der Herr lebt, der mich erwählt hat und der mich auf meines Vaters David Thron erhob und mir gemäß seiner Verheißung ein Haus gegründet hat! Noch heute sei Adonias des Todes!"

And now [as] Jehovah liveth, who has established me, and set me on the throne of David my father, and who has made me a house, as he promised, Adonijah shall be put to death this day.

25 Und der König Salomo beauftragte Jojadas Sohn Benaja, und dieser stieß ihn nieder, und er starb.

And king Solomon sent by the hand of Benaiah the son of Jehoiada; who fell on him, that he died.

26 Dem Priester Ebjatar aber befahl der König: "Geh nach Anatot auf dein Landgut! Du verdienst zwar den Tod. Aber ich will dich jetzt nicht töten, weil du die Lade des Herrn, des Herrn, vor meinem Vater getragen und alles, was mein Vater erlitten, miterduldet hast."

And the king said to Abiathar the priest, Go to Anathoth, to thine own fields; for thou art worthy of death; but I will not at this time put thee to death, because thou didst bear the ark of Adonai Jehovah before David my father, and because thou hast been afflicted in all wherein my father was afflicted.

27 So verstieß Salomo den Ebjatar, daß er nicht länger ein Priester des Herrn war, um des Herrn Wort zu erfüllen, das er über Elis Haus zu Silo geredet hatte.

And Solomon thrust out Abiathar from being priest to Jehovah, to fulfil the word of Jehovah, which he had spoken concerning the house of Eli in Shiloh.

28 Das Gerücht war auch zu Joab gedrungen. Weil sich aber Joab an Adonias angeschlossen hatte, wenn auch nicht an Absalom, so floh Joab zum Zelte des Herrn und ergriff die Altarhörner.

And the report came to Joab (for Joab had turned after Adonijah, though he had not turned after Absalom); and Joab fled to the tent of Jehovah, and caught hold of the horns of the altar.

29 Man meldete dem König Salomo: "Joab ist zum Zelte des Herrn geflohen. Er steht neben dem Altar." Da sandte Salomo Jojadas Sohn Benaja mit dem Befehl hin: "Auf! Stoß ihn nieder!"

And it was told king Solomon that Joab had fled to the tent of Jehovah; and behold, he is by the altar. And Solomon sent Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, saying, Go, fall on him.

30 Benaja kam nun zum Zelte des Herrn und sprach zu ihm- "So spricht der König: 'Komm heraus!'" Er aber sprach: "Nein! Ich will hier sterben." Benaja brachte nun dem König Bescheid und sprach: "So hat Joab geredet und so geantwortet."

And Benaiah came to the tent of Jehovah and said to him, Thus saith the king: Come forth. And he said, No; for I will die here. And Benaiah brought the king word again, saying, Thus said Joab, and thus he answered me.

31 Der König sprach zu ihm: "Tu, wie er gesprochen! Stoß ihn nieder! Aber begrabe ihn, daß du das Blut, das Joab ohne Ursache vergossen, von mir und meines Vaters Haus wendest!

And the king said to him, Do as he has said, and fall upon him, and bury him; and take away the innocent blood, which Joab shed, from me and from the house of my father.

32 Der Herr lasse sein Blut auf sein Haupt zurückfallen! Denn zwei Männer, die treuer und tapferer als er gewesen, hat er niedergestoßen und sie mit dem Schwerte getötet, ohne daß mein Vater es gewußt hat. Israels Feldhauptmann Abner, Ners Sohn, und Judas Feldhauptmann Amasa, Jeters Sohn.

And Jehovah shall requite the blood which he shed upon his own head, because he fell upon two men more righteous and better than he, and slew them with the sword, without my father David's knowledge: Abner the son of Ner, captain of the host of Israel, and Amasa the son of Jether, captain of the host of Judah.

33 So komme ihr Blut auf Joabs Haupt und auf das seiner Nachkommenschaft für immer! Immerdar aber sei David, seiner Nachkommenschaft, seinem Hause und Throne Heil vom Herrn!"

And their blood shall be requited upon the head of Joab, and upon the head of his seed for ever; but upon David, and upon his seed, and upon his house, and upon his throne, shall there be peace for ever from Jehovah.

34 So ging Jojadas Sohn Benaja hinauf, stieß ihn nieder und tötete ihn. Da ward er in seinem Hause in der Steppe begraben.

And Benaiah the son of Jehoiada went up and fell upon him, and put him to death; and he was buried in his own house in the wilderness.

35 Und der König setzte Jojadas Sohn Benaja an seiner Statt über das Heer und den Priester Sadok an Ebjatars Stelle.

And the king put Benaiah the son of Jehoiada in his stead over the host; and Zadok the priest the king put in the stead of Abiathar.

36 Dann sandte der König hin und ließ Simei rufen. Er sprach zu ihm: "Bau dir ein Haus zu Jerusalem und bleibe hier wohnen! Gehe von hier nirgendwo anders hin!

And the king sent and called for Shimei, and said to him, Build thee a house in Jerusalem, and abide there, and go not forth thence anywhere.

37 Gehst du aber hinaus und überschreitest du den Kidronbach, dann, merke dir das, bist du dem Tode verfallen. Dein Blut fällt auf dein Haupt."

And it shall be that on the day thou goest forth, and passest over the torrent of Kidron, ...know for certain that thou shalt surely die: thy blood shall be upon thine own head.

38 Simei sprach zum König: "Gut so! Wie mein Herr und König gesagt, wird dein Sklave tun." Also blieb Simei längere Zeit zu Jerusalem.

And Shimei said to the king, The saying is good: as my lord the king has said, so will thy servant do. And Shimei dwelt in Jerusalem many days.

39 Aber nach drei Jahren entliefen dem Simei zwei Sklaven zum König von Gat, Akis, Maakas Sohn. Man meldete dem Simei: "Deine Sklaven sind in Gat."

And it came to pass at the end of three years, that two servants of Shimei's ran away to Achish son of Maachah, king of Gath. And they told Shimei saying, Behold, thy servants are in Gath.

40 Da machte sich Simei auf, sattelte seinen Esel und ging nach Gat zu Akis, seine Sklaven zu suchen. So ging Simei hin und holte aus Gat seine Sklaven.

Then Shimei arose, and saddled his ass, and went to Gath, to Achish, to seek his servants; and Shimei went, and brought his servants from Gath.

41 Da meldete man Salomo: "Simei ist aus Jerusalem nach Gat gegangen und ist wieder zurückgekommen."

And it was told Solomon that Shimei had gone from Jerusalem to Gath, and had come again.

42 Da sandte der König hin, ließ Simei rufen und sprach zu ihm: "Habe ich nicht beim Herrn geschworen und dir beteuert: Sobald du weggehst und irgendwohin gehst, merk dir, bist du dem Tode verfallen, und du hast zu mir gesagt: 'Gut so! Ich will gehorchen.'

And the king sent and called for Shimei, and said to him, Did I not make thee swear by Jehovah, and protest to thee, saying, Know for certain, that on the day thou goest forth, and walkest abroad anywhere, thou shalt surely die? and thou saidst to me, The word that I have heard is good.

43 Warum achtest du nicht den Schwur des Herrn und das Gebot, das ich dir gegeben habe?"

Why then hast thou not kept the oath of Jehovah, and the commandment that I charged thee with?

44 Dann sprach der König zu Simei: "Du kennst das Böse, um das dein Herz gewußt und das du meinem Vater David angetan. Der Herr bringt deine Bosheit auf dein Haupt zurück.

And the king said to Shimei, Thou knowest all the wickedness of which thy heart is conscious, which thou didst to David my father; and Jehovah returns thy wickedness upon thine own head;

45 Der König Salomo aber möge gesegnet sein und Davids Thron immerdar vor dem Herrn feststehen!"

and king Solomon shall be blessed, and the throne of David shall be established before Jehovah for ever.

46 Und der König beauftragte Jojadas Sohn Benaja. Dieser ging hin und stieß ihn nieder, daß er starb. So war das Königtum in Salomos Hand gesichert worden.

And the king commanded Benaiah the son of Jehoiada; who went out and fell upon him, and he died. And the kingdom was established in the hand of Solomon.
