1 Korinther 15
1 Meine Brüder! Ich mache euch das Evangelium kund, das ich euch verkündet habe. Ihr habt es angenommen; ihr steht fest in ihm.
Now I want to remind you about the good news I announced to you. You accepted it, and you have stood firm for it.
2 In ihm liegt euer Heil, wenn ihr es festhaltet, wie ich es euch verkündet habe; ihr hättet sonst den Glauben ja vergeblich angenommen.
It is through this good news that you are saved if you hold on to the message that I gave you. Otherwise you trusted for nothing!
3 Vor allem habe ich euch überliefert, was auch ich empfangen habe, daß nämlich Christus, der Schrift entsprechend, für unsere Sünden gestorben ist,
I passed on to you what I myself had also received, a message of vital importance: that Christ died for our sins, according to Scripture;
4 daß er begraben wurde und daß er, der Schrift entsprechend, am dritten Tage auferweckt ward,
he was buried and was raised from the dead on the third day, again in accordance with Scripture.
5 daß er dann dem Kephas erschien und darauf den Zwölfen.
He appeared to Peter, then to the Twelve.
6 Sodann erschien er mehr als fünfhundert Brüdern zugleich, von denen noch die meisten leben bis auf den heutigen Tag; nur einige sind schon entschlafen.
After that he appeared to more than five hundred brothers and sisters at the same time, most of whom are still alive today, though some have died.
7 Alsdann erschien er dem Jakobus, darauf allen Aposteln.
He appeared to James, then all the apostles.
8 Zu allerletzt erschien er dann auch mir, gewissermaßen wie einer Fehlgeburt.
Last of all, he also appeared to me, someone born as it were at the wrong time.
9 ich bin ja der geringste der Apostel nicht wert, Apostel zu heißen, weil ich die Kirche Gottes verfolgt habe.
For I'm the least important apostle of all, not even fit to be called an apostle since I persecuted God's church.
10 Doch durch die Gnade Gottes bin ich, was ich bin, und seine mir verliehene Gnade ist nicht unwirksam geworden. Im Gegenteil, ich habe mehr gearbeitet als alle diese, das heißt nicht ich, vielmehr die Gnade Gottes in mir.
But by God's grace I am what I am, and his grace given to me wasn't wasted. On the contrary I've worked harder than all of them—though not me, but God's grace working through me.
11 Sei es also ich oder seien es jene, so predigen wir, und so habt ihr es auch geglaubt.
So whether it's I or them, this is the message we shared with you that brought you to trust in God.
12 Wenn aber nun gepredigt wird, daß Christus von den Toten auferweckt ward, wie können dann einige unter euch sagen: "Es gibt gar keine Auferstehung der Toten."
Now if the message declares that Christ has been raised from the dead, how is it that some of you say there's no resurrection of the dead?
13 Gibt es keine Auferstehung der Toten, so ward auch Christus nicht erweckt.
If there's no resurrection of the dead then Christ hasn't been raised either.
14 Ward aber Christus nicht erweckt, dann ist unsere Predigt ohne Inhalt, ohne Inhalt ist dann auch euer Glaube.
And if Christ isn't raised, then our message we shared with you is pointless, and your trust in God is pointless too.
15 Dann stehen wir sogar als falsche Zeugen über Gott da, weil wir es wider Gott bezeugt haben, er habe Christus auferweckt, den er nicht auferweckt haben kann, wenn die Toten wirklich nicht auferweckt würden.
In addition, we would be shown to be false witnesses of God when we testified that God raised Christ from the dead. But God didn't raise Christ from the dead if it's true that there's no resurrection.
16 Wenn nämlich Tote nicht erweckt werden, dann ward auch Christus nicht erweckt;
If the dead are not raised, then Christ hasn't been raised either,
17 ward aber Christus nicht erweckt, dann ist euer Glaube nichtig, und ihr seid noch in euren Sünden.
and if Christ hasn't been raised, then your trust in God is useless, and you are still in your sins.
18 Dann sind auch die verloren, die in Christus schon entschlafen sind.
This also means that those who died in Christ are lost.
19 Wenn wir nur für dieses Leben auf Christus hoffen dürften, dann wären wir die beklagenswertesten unter allen Menschen.
If our hope in Christ is only for this life, we're the most pitiful people of all!
20 Nun wurde aber Christus von den Toten auferweckt, und zwar als Erstling der Entschlafenen.
But Christ has been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of the harvest from those who have died.
21 Weil ja der Tod durch einen Menschen kam, so kam durch einen Menschen auch die Auferstehung der Toten.
Just as death came through a man, the resurrection of the dead came through a man.
22 Denn wie in Adam alle sterben, so werden in Christus alle auch das Leben haben,
Just as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive.
23 ein jeder, wenn die Reihe an ihm ist: Christus ist der Erstling; dann die, die Christus bei seiner Ankunft angehören.
But each in their own turn: Christ the firstfruits, then those who belong to Christ when he comes.
24 Dann kommt der Rest, wenn er das Reich Gott und dem Vater übergibt, nachdem er alle Herrschaft, Gewalt und Macht vernichtet hat.
After this comes the end, when Christ hands over the kingdom to God the Father, having destroyed all rulers, authorities, and powers.
25 Denn er muß herrschen, "bis er alle Feinde unter seine Füße gelegt hat."
Christ has to rule until he has put all his enemies under his feet.
26 Als letzter Feind wird dann der Tod vernichtet:
The last enemy that will be destroyed is death.
27 "denn alles hat er unter seine Füße gelegt.". Und wenn er sagt: "Alles ist unterworfen", so ist doch offenbar der ausgenommen, der ihm alles unterworfen hat.
As Scripture says, “He put everything under his feet.” (Of course when it says “everything” is put under him it's obvious this doesn't refer to God who placed everything under Christ's authority.)
28 Ist ihm alles unter unterworfen, dann wird auch der Sohn sich selbst dem unterwerfen, der ihm alles unterworfen hat, auf daß Gott alles in allem sei.
When everything has been placed under Christ's authority, then the Son will also place himself under God's authority, so that God who gave the Son authority over everything may be all in all.
29 Was wollen die denn tun, die sich für die Toten taufen lassen? Wenn Tote überhaupt nicht auferweckt werden, wozu dann lassen sie für sie sich taufen?
Otherwise what will those people do who are baptized for the dead? If the dead are not raised at all, why then would people be baptized for them?
30 Wozu setzen wir uns zu jeder Stunde Gefahren aus?
As for us, why do we place ourselves in danger hour after hour?
31 Ich schwebe Tag für Tag in Todesgefahr, so wahr ihr, meine Brüder, mein Ruhmestitel seid, den ich in Christus Jesus, unserem Herrn, besitze.
I die every day—let me say it bluntly, my brothers and sisters. This is just as sure as the pride I have for what Christ Jesus has done in you.
32 Wenn ich in Ephesus nur als ein Mensch mit wilden Tieren einen Kampf bestanden hätte, was würde es mir nützen? Ja, wenn die Toten nicht erweckt werden, dann "laßt uns essen und trinken; denn morgen sind wir tot."
Humanly speaking, what would I gain by fighting with those people in Ephesus who were like wild animals, if the dead are not raised? If the dead are not raised, “let's eat and drink, for tomorrow we die”!
33 Täuscht euch nicht! Schlechter Umgang ist verderblich für gute Sitten.
Don't be fooled: “bad company ruins good character.”
34 Kehrt aufrichtig zur Besinnung wieder und sündigt nicht; denn einige haben keine Erkenntnis Gottes; zur Beschämung sage ich es euch.
Come to your senses as you should, and stop sinning! Some of you don't know God. I tell you this to shame you.
35 Jedoch es könnte jemand fragen: "Wie werden die Toten auferweckt?" "Mit was für einem Leibe werden sie kommen?"
Of course somebody will ask, “How exactly are the dead raised? What kind of body will they have?”
36 Du Tor! Was du säst, wird nicht lebendig, wenn es nicht gestorben ist.
What a foolish question! What you sow doesn't sprout into life unless it dies.
37 Und was du säst, ist nicht der Körper, der entstehen soll, vielmehr ein einfaches Korn, etwa vom Weizen oder einer anderen Pflanzenart.
When you sow, you don't sow the plant it will grow into, just the bare seed, whether wheat or whatever you're planting.
38 Gott aber gibt ihm eine Form, so wie er will, jedem Samenkorn seine eigene Form.
God makes the plant grow into the form he has chosen, and different seeds produce different plants with different forms.
39 Nicht jedes Fleisch ist von derselben Art: Ein anderes ist das der Menschen, ein anderes das der Haustiere, ein anderes das der Vögel und wieder anders das der Fische.
What living things are made from is not the same. Human beings have one kind of body tissue, while animals have another, birds another, and fish another.
40 Auch gibt es himmlische und irdische Körper. Ganz anders ist der Glanz der himmlischen Körper und anders der der irdischen;
There are heavenly bodies and earthly bodies. Heavenly bodies have one kind of beauty, earthly bodies another.
41 anders ist der Glanz der Sonne und anders der des Mondes und wieder anders der der Sterne; und bei den Sternen selber unterscheidet sich der eine von dem anderen an Glanz.
The sun shines in one way, and the moon another, while the stars are different again, with each one shining in a different way.
42 So verhält es sich auch mit der Auferstehung von den Toten: Gesät wird in Verweslichkeit und auferweckt in Unverweslichkeit;
It's the same with the resurrection of the dead. The body is sown in decay; it is raised to last forever.
43 gesät wird in Unehre und auferweckt in Herrlichkeit; gesät wird in Schwäche und auferweckt in Kraft;
It is sown in shame; it is raised in glory. It is sown in weakness; it is raised in power.
44 gesät wird ein Sinnenleib, auferweckt ein vergeistigter Leib. Gibt es einen Sinnenleib, dann gibt es auch einen vergeistigten.
It is sown as a natural body; it is raised as a spiritual body. Just as there are natural bodies there are spiritual bodies.
45 So steht ja auch geschrieben: "Der erste Mensch, Adam, ward ein lebendiges Wesen." Der letzte Adam ward ein geistiges, lebenspendendes Wesen.
As Scripture says, “The first man, Adam, became a living being;” but the last Adam a life-giving spirit.
46 Zuerst kommt aber nicht das Vergeistigte, sondern das Sinnliche; alsdann erst kommt das Vergeistigte.
The spiritual did not come first, but the natural—the spiritual came after that.
47 Der erste Mensch stammt von der Erde, ist aus Lehm; der zweite Mensch stammt aus dem Himmel ist himmlisch.
The first man is from the dust of the earth; the second man is from heaven.
48 Wie der aus Lehm Gebildete, also auch die aus Lehm Gebildeten, und wie der Himmlische, so auch die Himmlischen.
Earthly people are like the man made from the earth; heavenly people are like the man from heaven.
49 Wie wir das Abbild des aus Lehm Gebildeten an uns getragen haben, so werden wir an uns auch das Bild des Himmlischen tragen.
Just as we bore the likeness of the earthly man so we shall bear the likeness of the man from heaven.
50 Das aber sage ich, meine Brüder: Fleisch und Blut können das Reich Gottes nicht erhalten, und das Verwesliche wird nicht die Unverweslichkeit erlangen.
However, I tell you this, my brothers and sisters: our present bodies cannot inherit the kingdom of God. These decaying bodies cannot inherit what lasts forever.
51 Seht, ich sage euch ein Geheimnis. Wir werden zwar nicht alle entschlafen, doch werden wir alle verwandelt werden,
Listen, I'm going to reveal a mystery! Not all of us will die—but we will all be changed,
52 und dies plötzlich, in einem Augenblick, beim Schall der letzten Posaune. Denn es wird die Posaune ertönen; die Toten werden alsdann unverweslich auferweckt, und wir werden verwandelt werden.
in a moment, in the blink of an eye, at the sound of the last trumpet. The trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised never to die again, and we will be changed.
53 Denn dieses Verwesliche muß Unverweslichkeit anziehen und dieses Sterbliche Unsterblichkeit.
For this perishable body must be clothed with a body that never perishes. This mortal life must be clothed with immortality.
54 Wenn aber dieses Verwesliche die Unverweslichkeit angezogen hat und dieses Sterbliche die Unsterblichkeit, dann geht das Schriftwort in Erfüllung: "Verschlungen ist der Tod im Siege.
When this perishable body has been clothed with a body that never perishes, and this mortal life has been clothed with immortality, then the Scripture will come true that says, “Death has been totally conquered and destroyed.
Death—where's your victory? Death—where's your sting?” (Hadēs g86)
56 Der Stachel des Todes aber ist die Sünde, die Kraft der Sünde aber das Gesetz.
The sting that causes death is sin; and the power of sin is the law;
57 Dank sei Gott, der uns den Sieg verleiht durch unseren Herrn Jesus Christus.
but praise God who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
58 Also, meine lieben Brüder! Steht fest und unerschütterlich allzeit voll Eifer im Werke des Herrn und überzeugt, daß eure Mühe nicht vergeblich ist im Herrn.
So my dear brothers and sisters: be strong, stand firm, doing everything you can for the Lord's work, since you know that nothing you do in the Lord is wasted.
