1 Chronik 10
1 Die Philister aber kämpften mit Israel. Da floh Israels Mannschaft vor den Philistern, und Erschlagene lagen auf dem Gebirge Gilboa.
Now the Philistines fought against Israel: and the men of Israel fled from before the Philistines, and fell down slain on Mount Gilboa.
2 Und die Philister hefteten sich an Saul und seine Söhne. Und so erschlugen die Philister Sauls Söhne, Jonatan, Abinadab und Malkisua.
The Philistines followed hard after Saul and after his sons; and the Philistines killed Jonathan, and Abinadab, and Malkishua, the sons of Saul.
3 So wurde der Kampf für Saul immer schwerer. Da trafen ihn die Bogenschützen in den Leib. So wurde er durch die Bogenschützen verwundet.
The battle grew fierce against Saul, and the archers overtook him; and he was wounded by the archers.
4 Da sprach Saul zu seinem Waffenträger: "Zücke dein Schwert und erstich mich damit, daß nicht diese Unbeschnittenen kommen und mit mir ihr Spiel treiben!" Aber sein Waffenträger wollte nicht. Denn er scheute sich zu sehr. Da zog Saul selbst das Schwert und stürzte sich hinein.
Then said Saul to his armor bearer, "Draw your sword, and thrust me through with it, lest these uncircumcised come and torture me." But his armor bearer would not, for he was greatly afraid. Therefore Saul took his sword, and fell on it.
5 Wie aber sein Waffenträger sah, daß Saul tot war, stürzte auch er sich in das Schwert und starb.
When his armor bearer saw that Saul was dead, he likewise fell on his sword, and died.
6 So starben Saul und seine drei Söhne und sein ganzes Haus; so starben sie miteinander.
So Saul died, and his three sons; and all his house died together.
7 Als aber Israels gesamte Mannschaft, die im Tale wohnte, sah, daß jene geflohen und daß Saul und seine Söhne tot waren, verließ sie ihre Städte und floh. Da kamen die Philister und siedelten darin.
When all the men of Israel who were in the valley saw that they fled, and that Saul and his sons were dead, they forsook their cities, and fled; and the Philistines came and lived in them.
8 Am anderen Morgen kamen die Philister, um die Erschlagenen zu plündern. Da fanden sie Saul und seine Söhne auf dem Gebirge Gilboa liegen.
It happened on the next day, when the Philistines came to strip the slain, that they found Saul and his sons fallen on Mount Gilboa.
9 Sie zogen ihn aus, nahmen sein Haupt und seine Waffen und sandten sie im Philisterlande umher, ihren Götzen und dem Volke die Siegesbotschaft zu künden.
They stripped him, and took his head, and his armor, and sent into the land of the Philistines all around, to carry the news to their idols, and to the people.
10 Seine Waffen legten sie in dem Hause ihres Gottes nieder. Seinen Schädel aber nagelten sie im Hause Dagons an.
They put his armor in the house of their gods, and fastened his head in the house of Dagon.
11 Als ganz Jabes in Gilead das alles hörte, was die Philister an Saul getan hatten,
When all the inhabitants of Jabesh Gilead heard all that the Philistines had done to Saul,
12 machten sich alle wehrfesten Männer auf und holten Sauls Leichnam und die Leichen seiner Söhne und brachten sie nach Jabes. Sie begruben ihre Gebeine unter der Terebinthe zu Jabes und fasteten sieben Tage.
all the valiant men arose, and took away the body of Saul, and the bodies of his sons, and brought them to Jabesh, and buried their bones under the oak in Jabesh, and fasted seven days.
13 So starb Saul wegen seines Abfalls vom Herrn, wegen des Herrnwortes, das er nicht befolgt und auch, weil er einen Totengeist befragt
So Saul died for his trespass which he committed against YHWH, because of the word of YHWH, which he did not keep; and also because he asked counsel of one who had a familiar spirit, to inquire thereby,
14 und nicht beim Herrn angefragt hatte. So ließ er ihn sterben und wandte das Königtum dem Isaisohne David zu.
and did not inquire of YHWH: therefore he killed him, and turned the kingdom to David the son of Jesse.
