Psalm 55
1 Dem Vorsänger, mit Saitenspiel. Ein Maskil von David. Nimm zu Ohren, o Gott, mein Gebet, und verbirg dich nicht vor meinem Flehen!
God, listen to my prayer, and do not turn away from me while I am pleading with you.
2 Horche auf mich und antworte mir! Ich irre umher in meiner Klage und muß stöhnen
Listen to me, and answer me, because I am overwhelmed by [all] my troubles.
3 vor der Stimme des Feindes, vor der Bedrückung des Gesetzlosen; denn sie wälzen Unheil auf mich, und im Zorn feinden sie mich an.
My enemies cause me to be terrified; wicked people oppress me. They cause me to have great troubles; they are angry with me, and they hate me.
4 Mein Herz ängstigte sich in meinem Innern, und Todesschrecken haben mich befallen.
I am terrified, and I am very much afraid that I will die.
5 Furcht und Zittern kamen mich an, und Schauder bedeckte mich.
I am very fearful and I tremble/shake, and I am completely terrified.
6 Und ich sprach: O daß ich Flügel hätte wie die Taube! Ich wollte hinfliegen und ruhen.
I said, “I wish that I had wings like a dove! If I had wings, I would fly away and find a place to rest.
7 Siehe, weithin entflöhe ich, würde weilen in der Wüste. (Sela)
I would fly far away and live in the desert.
8 Ich wollte eilends entrinnen vor dem heftigen Winde, vor dem Sturme.
I would quickly find a shelter from [my enemies] [who are like] [MET] a strong wind and rainstorm.”
9 Vernichte, Herr, zerteile ihre Zunge! Denn Gewalttat und Hader habe ich in der Stadt gesehen.
Lord, confuse my enemies, and cause their plans to fail, because I see them acting violently and causing strife in the city [of Jerusalem].
10 Tag und Nacht machen sie die Runde um sie auf ihren Mauern; und Unheil und Mühsal sind in ihrer Mitte.
During [each] day and night they march around on top of its walls, committing crimes and causing trouble.
11 Schadentun ist in ihrer Mitte, und Bedrückung und Trug weichen nicht von ihrer Straße.
They destroy [things] everywhere. They oppress and defraud [people] in the (marketplaces/public squares).
12 Denn nicht ein Feind ist es, der mich höhnt, sonst würde ich es ertragen; nicht mein Hasser ist es, der wider mich großgetan hat, sonst würde ich mich vor ihm verbergen;
If it were an enemy who was making fun of me, I could endure it. If it were someone who hates me, who despises me, I could hide from him.
13 sondern du, ein Mensch meinesgleichen, mein Freund und mein Vertrauter;
But it is someone who is just like me, my companion, someone who was my friend [who is doing this to me].
14 die wir trauten Umgang miteinander pflogen, ins Haus Gottes wandelten mit der Menge.
We previously had many good talks together; we walked around together in God’s temple.
15 Der Tod überrasche sie, lebendig mögen sie hinabfahren in den Scheol! Denn Bosheiten sind in ihrer Wohnung, in ihrem Innern. (Sheol h7585)
I desire/hope that my enemies will die suddenly; while they are still young, cause them to go down to the place where the dead people are. They they think evil things. (Sheol h7585)
16 Ich aber, ich rufe zu Gott, und Jehova rettet mich.
But I [will] ask Yahweh, [my] God, to help me, and he will save me.
17 Abends und morgens und mittags muß ich klagen und stöhnen, und er hört meine Stimme.
[Each] morning and [each] noontime and [each] evening I tell him what I am concerned about, and I moan, and he hears my voice.
18 Er hat meine Seele in Frieden erlöst aus dem Kampfe wider mich; denn ihrer sind viele gegen mich gewesen.
I have [very] many enemies, but he will rescue me and bring me back safely from the battles that I fight.
19 Hören wird Gott und sie demütigen, er thront ja von alters her (Sela) weil es keine Änderung bei ihnen gibt und sie Gott nicht fürchten.
God is the one who has ruled everything forever, and he will listen to me. He will cause my enemies to be [defeated and] disgraced, because they do not change their evil behavior and they do not revere God.
20 Er hat seine Hände ausgestreckt gegen die, welche mit ihm in Frieden waren; seinen Bund hat er gebrochen.
My companion, [whom I mentioned previously], betrayed his friends and broke the agreement that he made with them.
21 Glatt sind die Milchworte seines Mundes, und Krieg ist sein Herz; geschmeidiger sind seine Worte als Öl, und sie sind gezogene Schwerter.
What he said was [easy to listen to, like] butter [is easy to swallow] [MET], but in his inner being he hated people; his words were [soothing] like [olive] oil, [but they hurt people like] sharp swords do [MET].
22 Wirf auf Jehova, was dir auferlegt ist, und er wird dich erhalten; er wird nimmermehr zulassen, daß der Gerechte wanke!
Put your troubles in Yahweh’s hands, and he will take care of you; he will never allow righteous [people] to experience disasters.
23 Und du, Gott, wirst sie hinabstürzen in die Grube des Verderbens; die Männer des Blutes und des Truges werden nicht zur Hälfte bringen ihre Tage. Ich aber werde auf dich vertrauen.
God, you will cause murderers [MTY] and liars to die before they have lived half as long as they expect to live; but [as for me], I will trust in you.
