Philipper 1

1 Paulus und Timotheus, Knechte Jesu Christi, allen Heiligen in Christo Jesu, die in Philippi sind, mit den Aufsehern und Dienern:

Paul and Timothy, servants of Jesus Christ, to all the saints in Christ Jesus, which are at Philippi, with the bishops and deacons:

2 Gnade euch und Friede von Gott, unserem Vater, und dem Herrn Jesus Christus!

grace be unto you, and peace from God our father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ.

3 Ich danke meinem Gott bei aller meiner Erinnerung an euch

I give thanks unto my God upon every mention of you,

4 allezeit in jedem meiner Gebete, indem ich für euch alle das Gebet mit Freuden tue,

(always making supplication for you all with joy

5 wegen eurer Teilnahme an dem Evangelium vom ersten Tage an bis jetzt,

in every prayer of mine) for your attachment to the gospel, from the first day even till now;

6 indem ich eben dessen in guter Zuversicht bin, daß der, welcher ein gutes Werk in euch angefangen hat, es vollführen wird bis auf den Tag Jesu Christi;

being confident of this, that He who hath begun a good work in you will continue to perfect it till the day of Jesus Christ.

7 wie es für mich recht ist, daß ich dies in betreff euer aller denke, weil ihr mich im Herzen habt, und sowohl in meinen Banden, als auch in der Verantwortung und Bestätigung des Evangeliums, ihr alle meine Mitteilnehmer der Gnade seid.

As it is just for me to think this of you all, because ye have me in your heart, both in my bonds, and in the defence and confirmation of the gospel, being all of you partakers of the same grace with me.

8 Denn Gott ist mein Zeuge, wie ich mich nach euch allen sehne mit dem Herzen Christi Jesu.

For God is my witness, how much I long for you all, as with the bowels of Jesus Christ.

9 Und um dieses bete ich, daß eure Liebe noch mehr und mehr überströme in Erkenntnis und aller Einsicht,

And this I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and in all discernment;

10 damit ihr prüfen möget, was das Vorzüglichere sei, auf daß ihr lauter und unanstößig seid auf den Tag Christi,

that ye may try things that differ, that ye may be sincere and without offence until the day of Christ;

11 erfüllt mit der Frucht der Gerechtigkeit, die durch Jesum Christum ist, zur Herrlichkeit und zum Preise Gottes.

being full of the fruits of righteousness which are through Jesus Christ unto the glory and praise of God.

12 Ich will aber, daß ihr wisset, Brüder, daß meine Umstände mehr zur Förderung des Evangeliums geraten sind,

But I would have you know, my brethren, that the things, which have befallen me, have proved rather to the advancement of the gospel:

13 so daß meine Bande in Christo offenbar geworden sind in dem ganzen Prätorium und allen anderen,

so that my bonds are manifest in all the palace, and all other places, to be for the sake of Christ;

14 und daß die meisten der Brüder, indem sie im Herrn Vertrauen gewonnen haben durch meine Bande, viel mehr sich erkühnen, das Wort Gottes zu reden ohne Furcht.

and many of the brethren in the Lord, encouraged by my bonds, are much more bold to publish the word without fear.

15 Etliche zwar predigen Christum auch aus Neid und Streit, etliche aber auch aus gutem Willen.

Some indeed through envy and strife, and some also through good-will:

16 Diese aus Liebe, indem sie wissen, daß ich zur Verantwortung des Evangeliums gesetzt bin;

the former preach Christ out of contention, not sincerely, thinking to add affliction to my bonds;

17 jene aus Streitsucht verkündigen Christum nicht lauter, indem sie meinen Banden Trübsal zu erwecken gedenken.

the others out of love, knowing that I am set for the defence of the gospel.

18 Was denn? Wird doch auf alle Weise, sei es aus Vorwand oder in Wahrheit, Christus verkündigt, und darüber freue ich mich, ja, ich werde mich auch freuen;

What then? yet every way, whether in pretence or in truth, Christ is preached: and in this I rejoice, yea and I will rejoice;

19 denn ich weiß, daß dies mir zur Seligkeit ausschlagen wird durch euer Gebet und durch Darreichung des Geistes Jesu Christi,

for I know that this shall turn to my safety through your prayer, and the aid of the Spirit of Jesus Christ.

20 nach meiner sehnlichen Erwartung und Hoffnung, daß ich in nichts werde zu Schanden werden, sondern mit aller Freimütigkeit, wie allezeit, so auch jetzt Christus hoch erhoben werden wird an meinem Leibe, sei es durch Leben oder durch Tod.

According to my earnest expectation and hope, that I shall be put to shame in nothing; but that with all freedom of speech, as always, so now also Christ shall be magnified in my body, whether by life or by death.

21 Denn das Leben ist für mich Christus, und das Sterben Gewinn.

For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain: and if I live in the flesh, this is the fruit of my labor:

22 Wenn aber das Leben im Fleische mein Los ist, das ist für mich der Mühe wert, und was ich erwählen soll, weiß ich nicht.

so that I know not what to chuse;

23 Ich werde aber von beidem bedrängt, indem ich Lust habe, abzuscheiden und bei Christo zu sein, [denn] es ist weit besser;

for I am in a strait betwixt two, having a desire to depart, and to be with Christ, which is much preferable:

24 das Bleiben im Fleische aber ist nötiger um euretwillen.

but to abide in the flesh is more necessary for you.

25 Und in dieser Zuversicht weiß ich, daß ich bleiben und mit und bei euch allen bleiben werde zu eurer Förderung und Freude im Glauben,

And as I am confident of this, I know that I shall abide and shall continue with you all, for your improvement and the joy of your faith:

26 auf daß euer Rühmen in Christo Jesu meinethalben überströme durch meine Wiederkunft zu euch.

that your rejoicing in Christ Jesus may abound through me, by my coming to you again.

27 Wandelt nur würdig des Evangeliums des Christus, auf daß, sei es daß ich komme und euch sehe, oder abwesend bin, ich von euch höre, daß ihr feststehet in einem Geiste, indem ihr mit einer Seele mitkämpfet mit dem Glauben des Evangeliums,

Only behave worthy of the gospel of Christ, that whether I come and see you, or be absent, I may hear of you, that ye stand firm in one Spirit, striving together as with one soul for the saith of the gospel;

28 und in nichts euch erschrecken lasset von den Widersachern; was für sie ein Beweis des Verderbens ist, aber eures Heils, und das von Gott.

and are in nothing terrified by your adversaries: which is a demonstration of ruin to them, but to you of salvation, and this from God.

29 Denn euch ist es in Bezug auf Christum geschenkt worden, nicht allein an ihn zu glauben, sondern auch für ihn zu leiden,

For to you it is granted as a favor from Christ, not only to believe on Him, but also to suffer for his sake:

30 da ihr denselben Kampf habt, den ihr an mir gesehen und jetzt von mir höret.

having the same conflict as ye saw in me, and now hear to be in me.
