Job 39
1 Weißt du die Gebärzeit der Steinböcke? Beobachtest du das Kreißen der Hindinnen?
Knowest thou the time when the wild goats of the rock bring forth? [or] canst thou mark when the hinds do calve?
2 Zählst du die Monde, die sie erfüllen, und weißt du die Zeit ihres Gebärens?
Canst thou number the months that they fulfill? or knowest thou the time when they bring forth?
3 Sie krümmen sich, lassen ihre Jungen durchbrechen, entledigen sich ihrer Wehen.
They bow themselves, they bring forth their young, they cast out their sorrows.
4 Ihre Kinder werden stark, wachsen auf im Freien; sie gehen aus und kehren nicht zu ihnen zurück.
Their young ones are in good liking, they grow up in the open field; they go forth, and return not again,
5 Wer hat den Wildesel frei entsandt, und wer gelöst die Bande des Wildlings,
Who hath sent out the wild ass free? or who hath loosed the bands of the wild ass?
6 zu dessen Hause ich die Steppe gemacht, und zu seinen Wohnungen das Salzland?
Whose house I have made the wilderness, and the salt land his dwelling place.
7 Er lacht des Getümmels der Stadt, das Geschrei des Treibers hört er nicht.
He scorneth the tumult of the city, neither heareth he the shoutings of the driver.
8 Was er auf den Bergen erspäht, ist seine Weide, und allem Grünen spürt er nach.
The range of the mountains is his pasture, and he searcheth after every green thing.
9 Wird der Wildochs dir dienen wollen, oder wird er an deiner Krippe übernachten?
Will the wild-ox be content to serve thee? or will he abide by thy crib?
10 Wirst du den Wildochs mit seinem Seile an die Furche binden, oder wird er hinter dir her die Talgründe eggen?
Canst thou bind the wild-ox with his band in the furrow? or will he harrow the valleys after thee?
11 Wirst du ihm trauen, weil seine Kraft groß ist, und ihm deine Arbeit überlassen?
Wilt thou trust him, because his strength is great? or wilt thou leave to him thy labour?
12 Wirst du auf ihn dich verlassen, daß er deine Saat heimbringe, und daß er das Getreide deiner Tenne einscheuere?
Wilt thou confide in him, that he will bring home thy seed, and gather [the corn of] thy threshingfloor?
13 Fröhlich schwingt sich der Flügel der Straußin: ist es des Storches Fittich und Gefieder?
The wing of the ostrich rejoiceth, [but] are her pinions and feathers kindly?
14 Denn sie überläßt ihre Eier der Erde und erwärmt sie auf dem Staube;
For she leaveth her eggs on the earth, and warmeth them in the dust,
15 und sie vergißt, daß ein Fuß sie zerdrücken und das Getier des Feldes sie zertreten kann.
And forgetteth that the foot may crush them, or that the wild beast may trample them.
16 Sie behandelt ihre Kinder hart, als gehörten sie ihr nicht; ihre Mühe ist umsonst, es kümmert sie nicht.
She is hardened against her young ones, as if they were not hers: though her labour be in vain, [she is] without fear;
17 Denn Gott ließ sie der Weisheit vergessen, und keinen Verstand teilte er ihr zu.
Because God hath deprived her of wisdom, neither hath he imparted to her understanding.
18 Zur Zeit, wenn sie sich in die Höhe peitscht, lacht sie des Rosses und seines Reiters.
What time she lifteth up herself on high, she scorneth the horse and his rider.
19 Gibst du dem Rosse Stärke, bekleidest du seinen Hals mit der wallenden Mähne?
Hast thou given the horse [his] might? hast thou clothed his neck with the quivering mane?
20 Machst du es aufspringen gleich der Heuschrecke? Sein prächtiges Schnauben ist Schrecken.
Hast thou made him to leap as a locust? the glory of his snorting is terrible.
21 Es scharrt in der Ebene und freut sich der Kraft, zieht aus, den Waffen entgegen.
He paweth in the valley, and rejoiceth in his strength: he goeth out to meet the armed men.
22 Es lacht der Furcht und erschrickt nicht, und kehrt vor dem Schwerte nicht um.
He mocketh at fear, and is not dismayed; neither turneth he back from the sword.
23 Auf ihm klirrt der Köcher, der blitzende Speer und Wurfspieß.
The quiver rattleth against him, the flashing spear and the javelin.
24 Mit Ungestüm und Zorn schlürft es den Boden, und läßt sich nicht halten, wenn die Posaune ertönt.
He swalloweth the ground with fierceness and rage; neither believeth he that it is the voice of the trumpet.
25 Beim Schall der Posaune ruft es: Hui! und aus der Ferne wittert es die Schlacht, den Donnerruf der Heerführer und das Feldgeschrei.
As oft as the trumpet [soundeth] he saith, Aha! and he smelleth the battle afar off, the thunder of the captains, and the shouting.
26 Schwingt sich der Habicht durch deinen Verstand empor, breitet seine Flügel aus gegen Süden?
Doth the hawk soar by thy wisdom, [and] stretch her wings toward the south?
27 Oder erhebt sich auf deinen Befehl der Adler, und baut in der Höhe sein Nest?
Doth the eagle mount up at thy command, and make her nest on high?
28 In den Felsen wohnt und verweilt er, auf Felsenzacken und den Spitzen der Berge.
She dwelleth on the rock, and hath her lodging [there], upon the crag of the rock, and the strong hold.
29 Von dort aus erspäht er Nahrung, in die Ferne blicken seine Augen.
From thence she spieth out the prey; her eyes behold it afar off.
30 Und seine Jungen schlürfen Blut, und wo Erschlagene sind, da ist er.
Her young ones also suck up blood: and where the slain are, there is she.
