Psalm 79
1 [Ein Psalm; von Asaph.] Gott! die Nationen sind in dein Erbteil gekommen, haben deinen heiligen Tempel verunreinigt, haben Jerusalem zu Trümmerhaufen gemacht.
A Psalm for Asaph. O God, the heathen are come into thine inheritance; they have polluted thy holy temple; they have made Jerusalem a storehouse of fruits.
2 Die Leichen deiner Knechte haben sie den Vögeln des Himmels zur Speise gegeben, das Fleisch deiner Frommen den wilden Tieren der Erde.
They have given the dead bodies of thy servants [to be] food for the birds of the sky, the flesh of thy holy ones for the wild beasts of the earth.
3 Sie haben ihr Blut wie Wasser vergossen rings um Jerusalem, und niemand war da, der begrub.
They have shed their blood as water, round about Jerusalem; and there was none to bury [them].
4 Wir sind ein Hohn geworden unseren Nachbarn, ein Spott und Schimpf denen, die uns umgeben.
We are become a reproach to our neighbours, a scorn and derision to them [that are] round about us.
5 Bis wann, Jehova? Willst du immerfort zürnen, soll wie Feuer brennen dein Eifer?
How long, O Lord? wilt thou be angry for ever? shall thy jealousy burn like fire?
6 Schütte deinen Grimm aus über die Nationen, die dich nicht kennen, und auf die Königreiche, die deinen Namen nicht anrufen!
Pour out thy wrath upon the heathen that have not known thee, and upon the kingdoms which have not called upon thy name.
7 Denn man hat Jakob aufgezehrt, und seine Wohnung haben sie verwüstet.
For they have devoured Jacob, and laid his place waste.
8 Gedenke uns nicht die Ungerechtigkeiten der Vorfahren; laß eilends uns entgegenkommen deine Erbarmungen! denn sehr gering [O. schwach] sind wir geworden.
Remember not our old transgressions; let thy tender mercies speedily prevent us; for we are greatly impoverished.
9 Hilf uns, Gott unseres Heils, um der Herrlichkeit [O. Ehre] deines Namens willen; und errette uns, und vergib unsere Sünden um deines Namens willen!
Help us, O God our Saviour; for the glory of thy name, O Lord, deliver us; and be merciful to our sins, for thy name's sake.
10 Warum sollen die Nationen sagen: Wo ist ihr Gott? Laß unter den Nationen vor unseren Augen kundwerden die Rache für das vergossene Blut deiner Knechte!
Lets haply they should say among the heathen, Where is their God? and let the avenging of thy servant's blood that has been shed be known among the heathen before our eyes.
11 Laß vor dich kommen das Seufzen des Gefangenen; nach der Größe deines Armes laß übrigbleiben die Kinder des Todes!
Let the groaning of the prisoners come in before thee; according to the greatness of thine arm preserve the sons of the slain ones.
12 Und gib unseren Nachbarn ihren Hohn, womit sie dich, Herr, gehöhnt haben, siebenfach in ihren Busen zurück!
Repay to our neighbours sevenfold into their bosom their reproach, with which they have reproached thee, O Lord.
13 So werden wir, dein Volk, und die Herde deiner Weide, dich preisen [O. dir danken] ewiglich, dein Lob erzählen von Geschlecht zu Geschlecht.
For we are thy people and the sheep of thy pasture; we will give thee thanks for ever; we will declare thy praise throughout all generations.
