Psalm 59
1 [Dem Vorsänger, "Verdirb nicht!" Von David, ein Gedicht, als Saul sandte, und sie sein Haus bewachten, um ihn zu töten.] Befreie mich von meinen Feinden, o mein Gott! setze mich in Sicherheit vor denen, die sich wider mich erheben!
“For the leader of the music. To the tune of “Do not destroy.” A psalm of David, when Saul sent, and they watched the house to kill him.” Deliver me from my enemies, O my God! Defend me from them that rise up against me!
2 Befreie mich von denen, die Frevel tun, und rette mich von den Blutmenschen!
Deliver me from the doers of iniquity, And save me from men of blood!
3 Denn siehe, sie lauern auf meine Seele; Starke rotten sich wider mich ohne meine Übertretung und ohne meine Sünde, Jehova!
For, lo! they lie in wait for my life; The mighty are gathered against me, Without any offence or fault of mine, O LORD!
4 Ohne eine Schuld meinerseits laufen und bereiten sie sich; wache auf, mir entgegen, und sieh!
Without any offence of mine, they run and prepare themselves; Awake to help me, and behold!
5 Ja, du, Jehova, Gott der Heerscharen, Gott Israels, erwache, um heimzusuchen alle Nationen! sei keinem gnädig von den treulos Frevelnden! (Sela)
Do thou, O Jehovah, God of hosts, God of Israel, Awake to punish all the nations! Show no mercy to any wicked transgressors! (Pause)
6 Am Abend kehren sie zurück, heulen wie Hunde, und rings umgehen sie die Stadt.
Let them return at evening, Let them howl like dogs, And go round about the city!
7 Siehe, aus ihrem Munde sprudeln sie Böses hervor, Schwerter sind auf ihren Lippen-denn "wer hört?"
Behold! with their mouths they belch out malice; Swords are upon their lips; “For who,” say they, “will hear?”
8 Du aber, Jehova, wirst ihrer lachen, wirst spotten aller Nationen.
Yet thou, O LORD! wilt laugh at them; Thou wilt hold all the nations in derision!
9 Meine [Eig. Seine; wahrsch. ein Fehler, vergl. v 17] Stärke, auf dich will ich achten; denn Gott ist meine hohe Feste.
O my Strength! to thee will I look! For God is my defence;
10 Mein Gott wird mir mit seiner Güte zuvorkommen; [Nach and. Lesart: Der Gott meiner Güte wird mir zuvorkommen] Gott wird mich meine Lust sehen lassen an meinen Feinden.
My God will come to meet me with his mercy; God will cause me to look with joy upon my enemies.
11 Töte sie nicht, damit mein Volk es nicht vergesse; laß sie umherirren durch deine Macht, und stürze sie nieder, Herr, unser Schild!
Slay them not, lest my people forget; Scatter them by thy power, and cast them down, O Lord, our shield!
12 Sünde ihres Mundes ist das Wort ihrer Lippen; so laß sie gefangen werden in ihrem Hochmut und wegen des Fluches und wegen der Lüge, die sie aussprechen!
The word of their lips is the sin of their mouth; Let them be overtaken in their pride, For the curses and the falsehood which they utter!
13 Mache ein Ende im Grimm, mache ein Ende, daß sie nicht mehr seien, und erkennen, [O. seien; damit sie erkennen] daß Gott in Jakob herrscht bis an die Enden der Erde! (Sela)
Consume them in thy wrath; consume them that they be no more, That they may know that God ruleth in Jacob, Even to the ends of the earth! (Pause)
14 Und am Abend kehren sie zurück, heulen wie Hunde, und rings umgehen sie die Stadt.
Let them return at evening, Let them howl like dogs, And go round about the city!
15 Sie schweifen umher nach Speise; sie übernachten, wenn sie auch nicht satt sind.
Let them wander about for food, When they have passed the night unsatisfied!
16 Ich aber will singen von deiner Stärke, und des Morgens jubelnd preisen deine Güte; denn du bist mir eine hohe Feste gewesen und ein Zuflucht am Tage meiner Bedrängnis.
But I will sing of thy power; Yea, in the morning will I sing aloud of thy mercy; For thou hast been my defence, My refuge in the day of my distress.
17 Dir, meine Stärke, will ich Psalmen singen; [Eig. will ich singspielen] denn Gott ist meine hohe Feste, der Gott meiner Güte. [d. h. der mir Güte erweist]
To thee, O my Strength! will I sing! For God is my defence; a God of mercy to me.
