Psalm 44
1 [Dem Vorsänger. Von den Söhnen Korahs, ein Maskil. [S. die Anm. zu Ps. 32, Überschrift] ] Gott, mit unseren Ohren haben wir gehört, unsere Väter haben uns erzählt die Großtat, die du gewirkt hast in ihren Tagen, in den Tagen vor alters.
To the chief Musician. Of the sons of Korah. An instruction. O God, with our ears have we heard, our fathers have told us, the work thou wroughtest in their days, in the days of old:
2 Du, mit deiner Hand hast du Nationen ausgetrieben, und sie [d. h. unsere Väter] hast du gepflanzt, Völkerschaften hast du verderbt, und sie [d. h. unsere Väter] hast du ausgebreitet.
Thou, by thy hand, didst dispossess the nations, but them thou didst plant; thou didst afflict the peoples, but them didst thou cause to spread out.
3 Denn nicht durch ihr Schwert haben sie das Land in Besitz genommen, und nicht ihr Arm hat sie gerettet; sondern deine Rechte und dein Arm und das Licht deines Angesichts, weil du Wohlgefallen an ihnen hattest.
For not by their own sword did they take possession of the land, neither did their own arm save them; but thy right hand, and thine arm, and the light of thy countenance, because thou hadst delight in them.
4 Du selbst bist [O. viell.: Du bist derselbe; vergl. Ps. 102,27] mein König, o Gott; gebiete die Rettungen Jakobs!
Thou thyself art my king, O God: command deliverance for Jacob.
5 Durch dich werden wir niederstoßen unsere Bedränger; durch deinen Namen werden wir zertreten, die wider uns aufstehen.
Through thee will we push down our adversaries; through thy name will we tread them under that rise up against us.
6 Denn nicht auf meinen Bogen vertraue ich, und nicht wird mein Schwert mich retten.
For I will not put confidence in my bow, neither shall my sword save me.
7 Denn du rettest uns von unseren Bedrängern, und unsere Hasser machst du beschämt. [O. Du hast gerettet hast beschämt gemacht]
For thou hast saved us from our adversaries, and hast put them to shame that hate us.
8 In Gott rühmen wir uns den ganzen Tag, und deinen Namen werden wir preisen ewiglich. (Sela)
In God will we boast all the day, and we will praise thy name for ever. (Selah)
9 Doch du hast uns verworfen und zu Schanden gemacht, und zogest nicht aus mit unseren Heeren.
But thou hast cast off, and put us to confusion, and dost not go forth with our armies;
10 Du ließest uns zurückweichen vor dem Bedränger, und unsere Hasser haben für sich geraubt.
Thou hast made us to turn back from the adversary, and they that hate us spoil for themselves;
11 Du gabst uns hin wie Schlachtschafe, [Eig. Speiseschafe] und unter die Nationen hast du uns zerstreut.
Thou hast given us over like sheep [appointed] for meat, and hast scattered us among the nations;
12 Du verkauftest dein Volk um ein Geringes und hast nicht hochgestellt ihren Preis.
Thou hast sold thy people for nought, and hast not increased [thy wealth] by their price;
13 Du machtest uns zum Hohne unseren Nachbarn, zum Spott und Schimpf denen, die uns umgeben.
Thou makest us a reproach to our neighbours, a mockery and a derision for them that are round about us;
14 Du machtest uns zum Sprichwort unter den Nationen, zum Kopfschütteln unter den Völkerschaften.
Thou makest us a byword among the nations, a shaking of the head among the peoples.
15 Den ganzen Tag ist vor mir meine Schande, und die Scham meines Angesichts hat mich bedeckt,
All the day my confusion is before me, and the shame of my face hath covered me,
16 Wegen der Stimme des Schmähers und Lästerers, wegen des Feindes und des Rachgierigen.
Because of the voice of him that reproacheth and blasphemeth; by reason of the enemy and the avenger.
17 Dieses alles ist über uns gekommen, und wir haben deiner nicht vergessen, noch betrüglich gehandelt wider deinen Bund.
All this is come upon us; yet have we not forgotten thee, neither have we dealt falsely against thy covenant:
18 Nicht ist unser Herz zurückgewichen, noch sind unsere Schritte abgebogen von deinem Pfade;
Our heart is not turned back, neither have our steps declined from thy path;
19 Obgleich [O. daß] du uns zermalmt hast am Orte der Schakale, und uns bedeckt mit dem Schatten des Todes.
Though thou hast crushed us in the place of jackals, and covered us with the shadow of death.
20 Wenn wir vergessen hätten den Namen unseres Gottes und unsere Hände ausgestreckt zu einem fremden Gott, [El]
If we had forgotten the name of our God, and stretched out our hands to a strange god,
21 Würde Gott das nicht erforschen? denn er kennt die Geheimnisse des Herzens.
Would not God search this out? for he knoweth the secrets of the heart.
22 Doch [O. Denn] um deinetwillen werden wir getötet den ganzen Tag, wie Schlachtschafe sind wir geachtet.
But for thy sake are we killed all the day long; we are reckoned as sheep for slaughter.
23 Erwache! warum schläfst du, Herr? Wache auf! Verwirf uns nicht auf ewig!
Awake, why sleepest thou, Lord? arise, cast [us] not off for ever.
24 Warum verbirgst du dein Angesicht, vergissest unser Elend und unsere Bedrückung?
Wherefore hidest thou thy face, [and] forgettest our affliction and our oppression?
25 Denn unsere Seele ist in den Staub gebeugt, unser Bauch klebt an der Erde.
For our soul is bowed down to the dust; our belly cleaveth unto the earth.
26 Stehe auf, uns zur Hülfe, und erlöse uns um deiner Güte willen!
Rise up for our help, and redeem us for thy loving-kindness' sake.
