Sprueche 25
1 Auch diese sind Sprüche Salomos, welche die Männer Hiskias, des Königs von Juda, zusammengetragen haben:
These also are proverbs of Solomon, which the men of Hezekiah, king of Judah, collected.
2 Gottes Ehre ist es, eine Sache zu verbergen, aber der Könige Ehre, eine Sache zu erforschen.
It is the glory of God to conceal a thing; But it is the glory of kings to search out a matter.
3 Der Himmel an Höhe, und die Erde an Tiefe, und das Herz der Könige sind unerforschlich.
As the heavens for their height, And as the earth for its depth, So is the heart of kings unsearchable!
4 Man entferne die Schlacken von dem Silber, so geht für den Goldschmied ein Gerät hervor.
Take away the dross from the silver, And there will come forth a vessel for the founder;
5 Man entferne den Gesetzlosen vor dem König, so wird sein Thron feststehen durch Gerechtigkeit.
Take away the wicked man from the presence of the king, And his throne will be established by righteousness.
6 Brüste dich nicht vor dem König, und stelle dich nicht an den Platz der Großen.
Put not thyself forth in the presence of the king, Nor set thyself in the place of the great;
7 Denn besser ist es, daß man dir sage: Komm hier herauf, als daß man dich erniedrige vor dem Edlen, den deine Augen doch gesehen haben.
For better is it that one should say to thee, “Come up hither!” Than that he should put thee in a lower place, In the presence of the prince whom thine eyes behold.
8 Geh nicht eilig aus zu einem Streithandel, damit am Ende davon nicht fraglich werde, was du zu tun hast, wenn dein Nächster dich beschämt. -
Go not forth hastily to engage in a suit, Lest thou know not what to do in the end of it, When thine adversary hath put thee to shame.
9 Führe deinen Streithandel mit deinem Nächsten, aber enthülle nicht das Geheimnis eines anderen;
Maintain thy cause with thine adversary, But reveal not another's secret;
10 damit dich nicht schmähe, wer es hört, und dein übler Ruf nicht mehr weiche.
Lest he that heareth it put thee to shame, And thy infamy depart not from thee.
11 Goldene Äpfel in silbernen Prunkgeräten: so ist ein Wort, geredet zu seiner Zeit. [Eig. seinen Umständen gemäß]
A word spoken in season Is like apples of gold in figured-work of silver.
12 Ein goldener Ohrring und ein Halsgeschmeide von feinem Golde: so ist ein weiser Tadler für ein hörendes Ohr.
As a ring of gold, and an ornament of fine gold, So is a wise reprover to an attentive ear.
13 Wie Kühlung des Schnees an einem Erntetage ist ein treuer Bote denen, die ihn senden: er erquickt die Seele seines Herrn.
As the cold of snow in the time of harvest, So is a faithful messenger to them that send him; For he refresheth the spirit of his masters.
14 Wolken und Wind, und kein Regen: so ist ein Mann, welcher mit trügerischem Geschenke prahlt.
As clouds and wind without rain, So is the man that boasteth falsely of giving.
15 Ein Richter [O. Fürst] wird überredet durch Langmut, und eine gelinde Zunge zerbricht Knochen.
By long forbearing is a prince appeased; And a soft tongue breaketh bones.
16 Hast du Honig gefunden, so iß dein Genüge, damit du seiner nicht satt werdest und ihn ausspeiest.
Hast thou found honey? eat what is sufficient for thee, Lest thou be surfeited with it, and vomit it up.
17 Mache deinen Fuß selten im Hause deines Nächsten, damit er deiner nicht satt werde und dich hasse.
Let thy foot be seldom in the house of thy friend, Lest he be surfeited with thee and hate thee.
18 Hammer und Schwert und geschärfter Pfeil: so ist ein Mann, der wider seinen Nächsten falsches Zeugnis ablegt.
A battle-hammer, and a sword, and a sharp arrow, Is the man who beareth false witness against his neighbor.
19 Ein zerbrochener Zahn und ein wankender Fuß: so ist das Vertrauen auf einen Treulosen am Tage der Drangsal.
As a broken tooth, and a wavering foot, So is trust in an unfaithful man in time of trouble.
20 Einer, der das Oberkleid ablegt am Tage der Kälte, Essig auf Natron: so, wer einem traurigen Herzen Lieder singt.
As he that taketh off a garment on a cold day, As vinegar upon nitre, So is he that singeth songs to a heavy heart.
21 Wenn deinen Hasser hungert, speise ihn mit Brot, und wenn ihn dürstet, tränke ihn mit Wasser;
If thine enemy be hungry, give him bread to eat; And if he be thirsty, give him water to drink;
22 denn glühende Kohlen wirst du auf sein Haupt häufen, und Jehova wird dir vergelten.
For thou wilt heap coals of fire upon his head, And the LORD will reward thee.
23 Nordwind gebiert Regen, und eine heimliche Zunge verdrießliche Gesichter.
As the north wind bringeth forth rain, So a backbiting tongue maketh an angry countenance.
24 Besser auf einer Dachecke wohnen, als ein zänkisches Weib und ein gemeinsames Haus.
Better is it to dwell in a corner of the housetop, Than with a quarrelsome woman in a large house.
25 Frisches Wasser auf eine lechzende Seele: so eine gute Nachricht aus fernem Lande.
As cold water to the thirsty, So is good news from a far country.
26 Getrübter Quell und verderbter Brunnen: so ist der Gerechte, der vor dem Gesetzlosen wankt.
As a troubled fountain, and as a corrupted spring, So is a righteous man falling before the wicked.
27 Viel Honig essen ist nicht gut, aber schwere Dinge erforschen ist Ehre.
To eat much honey is not good; So the search of high things is weariness.
28 Eine erbrochene Stadt ohne Mauer: so ist ein Mann, dessen Geist Beherrschung mangelt.
As a city broken through and without a wall, So is he that hath no rule over his spirit.
