Sprueche 18
1 Wer sich absondert, trachtet nach einem Gelüst; gegen alle Einsicht [S. die Anm. zu Kap. 2,7] geht er heftig an. [Eig. fletscht er die Zähne]
He who separateth himself seeketh his own desire; Against all sound discretion he rusheth on.
2 Der Tor hat keine Lust an Verständnis, sondern nur daran, daß sein Herz sich offenbare.
The fool hath no delight in understanding, But rather in revealing his own mind.
3 Wenn ein Gesetzloser kommt, so kommt auch Verachtung; und mit der Schande kommt Schmähung.
When the wicked cometh, then cometh also contempt; And with baseness, shame.
4 Die Worte aus dem Munde eines Mannes sind tiefe Wasser, ein sprudelnder Bach, ein Born [And.: ist der Born] der Weisheit.
The words of a man's mouth are deep waters, And the wellspring of wisdom is an overflowing brook.
5 Es ist nicht gut, die Person des Gesetzlosen anzusehen, um den Gerechten zu beugen im Gericht.
It is not good to be partial to the wicked, So as to overthrow the righteous in judgment.
6 Die Lippen des Toren geraten in Streit, [O. führen Streit herbei] und sein Mund ruft nach Schlägen.
The lips of a fool enter into strife, And his mouth calleth for blows.
7 Der Mund des Toren wird ihm zum Untergang, und seine Lippen sind der Fallstrick seiner Seele.
A fool's mouth is his destruction, And his lips are a snare for his life.
8 Die Worte des Ohrenbläsers sind wie Leckerbissen, und sie dringen hinab in das Innerste des Leibes.
The words of a talebearer are like sweet morsels; For they go down to the innermost parts of the body.
9 Auch wer sich lässig zeigt in seiner Arbeit, ist ein Bruder des Verderbers.
Moreover, he that is slothful in his work Is brother to him that is a great waster.
10 Der Name Jehovas ist ein starker Turm; der Gerechte läuft dahin und ist in Sicherheit.
The name of the LORD is a strong tower; The righteous runneth to it, and is safe.
11 Das Vermögen des Reichen ist seine feste Stadt, und in seiner Einbildung gleich einer hochragenden Mauer.
The rich man's wealth is his strong city, And as a high wall, in his own conceit.
12 Vor dem Sturze wird hoffärtig des Mannes Herz, und der Ehre geht Demut voraus.
Before destruction the heart of a man is haughty, And before honor is humility.
13 Wer Antwort gibt, bevor er anhört, dem ist es Narrheit und Schande.
He who answereth a matter before he hath heard it, It is folly and shame to him.
14 Eines Mannes Geist erträgt seine Krankheit; aber ein zerschlagener Geist, wer richtet ihn auf? [Eig. wer hebt [trägt] ihn?]
The spirit of a man will sustain his infirmity; But a wounded spirit who can bear?
15 Das Herz des Verständigen erwirbt Erkenntnis, und das Ohr der Weisen sucht nach Erkenntnis.
The heart of the intelligent will acquire knowledge, And the ear of the wise will seek knowledge.
16 Das Geschenk des Menschen macht ihm Raum und verschafft ihm Zutritt zu den Großen.
A gift maketh room for a man, And bringeth him into the presence of the great.
17 Der erste in seiner Streitsache hat recht; doch sein Nächster kommt und forscht ihn aus.
He that first pleadeth his cause appeareth just; But his opponent cometh, and searcheth him through.
18 Das Los schlichtet Zwistigkeiten und bringt Mächtige auseinander.
The lot causeth contentions to cease, And parteth asunder the mighty.
19 Ein Bruder, an dem man treulos [frevelhaft] gehandelt hat, widersteht mehr als eine feste Stadt; und Zwistigkeiten sind wie der Riegel einer Burg.
A brother offended is harder to be won than a strong city; Yea, their contentions are like the bars of a castle.
20 Von der Frucht des Mundes eines Mannes wird sein Inneres [Eig. sein Leib] gesättigt, vom Ertrage seiner Lippen wird er gesättigt.
With the fruit of a man's mouth shall his stomach be filled; He shall be filled with the produce of his lips.
21 Tod und Leben sind in der Gewalt der Zunge, und wer sie liebt, wird ihre Frucht essen.
Death and life are in the power of the tongue; They that love it shall eat its fruit.
22 Wer ein Weib gefunden, hat Gutes gefunden und hat Wohlgefallen erlangt von Jehova.
He that findeth a wife findeth a blessing, And obtaineth favor from the LORD.
23 Flehentlich bittet der Arme, aber der Reiche antwortet Hartes.
The poor useth entreaties; But the rich answereth roughly.
24 Ein Mann vieler Freunde wird zu Grunde gehen; doch es gibt einen, der liebt und anhänglicher ist als ein Bruder.
A man of many friends will show himself false; Yet there is a friend who sticketh closer than a brother.
