Matthaeus 20
1 Denn das Reich der Himmel ist gleich einem Hausherrn, der frühmorgens ausging, um Arbeiter in seinen Weinberg zu dingen.
For the gospel-kingdom is like the master of a family, who went out early in the morning to hire laborers for his vineyard:
2 Nachdem er aber mit den Arbeitern um einen Denar den Tag übereingekommen war, sandte er sie in seinen Weinberg.
and agreeing with the men for a penny a day, he sent them into his vineyard:
3 Und als er um die dritte Stunde ausging, sah er andere auf dem Markte müßig stehen;
and going out about the third hour he saw others standing in the market-place doing nothing,
4 und zu diesen sprach er: Gehet auch ihr hin in den Weinberg, und was irgend recht ist, werde ich euch geben.
and said to them, Go ye also into the vineyard, and what is reasonable I will give you: so they went.
5 Sie aber gingen hin. Wiederum aber ging er aus um die sechste und neunte Stunde und tat desgleichen.
And going out again about the sixth and ninth hour he did in like manner.
6 Als er aber um die elfte Stunde ausging, fand er andere stehen und spricht zu ihnen: Was stehet ihr hier den ganzen Tag müßig?
And going out about the eleventh hour, he found others standing without work, and saith to them, Why stand ye here all the day doing nothing?
7 Sie sagen zu ihm: Weil niemand uns gedungen hat. Er spricht zu ihnen: Gehet auch ihr hin in den Weinberg, und was irgend recht ist, werdet ihr empfangen.
They say unto him, because no one hath hired us. He saith unto them, Go ye also into the vineyard, and whatever is reasonable ye shall receive.
8 Als es aber Abend geworden war, spricht der Herr des Weinbergs zu seinem Verwalter: Rufe die Arbeiter und zahle ihnen den Lohn, anfangend von den letzten bis zu den ersten.
Now when evening was come, the owner of the vineyard saith to his steward, Call the work-men and pay them their hire, beginning from the last even to the first.
9 Und als die um die elfte Stunde Gedungenen kamen, empfingen sie je einen Denar.
And when those came who were hired about the eleventh hour, they received every one a penny:
10 Als aber die ersten kamen, meinten sie, daß sie mehr empfangen würden; und auch sie empfingen je einen Denar.
but when the first came, they thought that they should receive more; and they also received every one a penny.
11 Als sie aber den empfingen, murrten sie wider den Hausherrn
And after they had received it they murmured against the master of the house,
12 und sprachen: Diese letzten haben eine Stunde gearbeitet, und du hast sie uns gleich gemacht, die wir die Last des Tages und die Hitze getragen haben.
saying, These last have worked but one hour, and thou hast made them equal to us, who have borne the burthen and heat of the day.
13 Er aber antwortete und sprach zu einem von ihnen: Freund, ich tue dir nicht unrecht. Bist du nicht um einen Denar mit mir übereingekommen?
But he answered, and said to one of them, Friend, I do thee no wrong; didst not thou agree with me for a penny?
14 Nimm das Deine und gehe hin. Ich will aber diesem letzten geben wie auch dir.
Take what is thine, and be gone: it is my pleasure to give to this last as I do to thee;
15 Ist es mir nicht erlaubt, mit dem Meinigen zu tun, was ich will? Blickt [W. ist] dein Auge böse, [d. i. neidisch, mißgünstig] weil ich gütig bin?
and may I not do what I will with my own?
16 Also werden die Letzten Erste, und die Ersten Letzte sein; denn viele sind Berufene, wenige aber Auserwählte.
Is thine eye evil because I am good? Thus the last shall be first, and the first last; for there are many called, but few chosen.
17 Und als Jesus nach Jerusalem hinaufging, nahm er die zwölf Jünger auf dem Wege besonders zu sich und sprach zu ihnen:
And as Jesus was going up to Jerusalem, He took the twelve disciples apart in the way, and said unto them, Behold we are going up to Jerusalem,
18 Siehe, wir gehen hinauf nach Jerusalem, und der Sohn des Menschen wird den Hohenpriestern und Schriftgelehrten überliefert werden, und sie werden ihn zum Tode verurteilen;
and the son of man shall be delivered to the chief priests and scribes, and they shall condemn Him to death,
19 und sie werden ihn den Nationen überliefern, um ihn zu verspotten und zu geißeln und zu kreuzigen; und am dritten Tage wird er auferstehen.
and deliver Him up to the gentiles, to insult, and to scourge, and to crucify Him. But on the third day He shall rise again.
20 Dann trat die Mutter der Söhne des Zebedäus mit ihren Söhnen zu ihm und huldigte und erbat etwas von ihm.
Then the mother of Zebedee's sons came to Him, together with her two sons, falling down before Him, and presenting a petition to Him.
21 Er aber sprach zu ihr: Was willst du? Sie sagt zu ihm: Sprich, daß diese meine zwei Söhne einer zu deiner Rechten und einer zu deiner Linken sitzen mögen in deinem Reiche.
And He said unto her, What dost thou desire? She saith unto Him, Grant that these my two sons may sit, one on thy right hand, and the other on the left in thy kingdom.
22 Jesus aber antwortete und sprach: Ihr wisset nicht, um was ihr bittet. Könnt ihr den Kelch trinken, den ich trinken werde? [O. zu trinken im Begriff stehe] Sie sagen zu ihm: Wir können es.
But Jesus answered and said, Ye know not what ye ask: are ye able to drink of the cup which I am going to drink of, and to be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with?
23 Und er spricht zu ihnen: Meinen Kelch werdet ihr zwar trinken, aber das Sitzen zu meiner Rechten und zu meiner Linken steht nicht bei mir zu vergeben, sondern ist für die, welchen es von meinem Vater bereitet ist.
They replied, We are able. And He saith unto them, Ye shall indeed drink of my cup, and shall be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with; but to sit on my right hand and on my left is not mine to give, but to those for whom it is prepared by my Father.
24 Und als die Zehn es hörten, wurden sie unwillig über die zwei Brüder.
And when the other ten heard it, they were provoked at the two brethren:
25 Jesus aber rief sie herzu und sprach: Ihr wisset, daß die Regenten der Nationen über dieselben herrschen und die Großen Gewalt über sie üben.
but Jesus called them to Him and said, Ye know that the princes of the gentiles lord it over them, and their great men exercise authority upon them:
26 Unter euch soll es nicht also sein; sondern wer irgend unter euch groß werden will, soll euer Diener sein,
it shall not be so among you; but whosoever would be great among you, let him be your minister, and whoever would be chief among you,
27 und wer irgend unter euch der Erste sein will, soll euer Knecht sein;
let him be your servant:
28 gleichwie der Sohn des Menschen nicht gekommen ist, um bedient zu werden, sondern um zu dienen und sein Leben zu geben als Lösegeld für viele.
as the Son of man came not to be ministred unto, but to minister and to give his life a ransom for many.
29 Und als sie von Jericho auszogen, folgte ihm eine große Volksmenge.
And as they were going from Jericho, a great multitude followed Him:
30 Und siehe, zwei Blinde, die am Wege saßen, als sie hörten, daß Jesus vorübergehe, schrieen und sprachen: Erbarme dich unser, Herr, Sohn Davids!
and behold, two blind men siting by the way-side, when they heard that Jesus was passing by, cried out, saying, Have mercy on us, O Lord, thou son of David.
31 Die Volksmenge aber bedrohte sie, daß sie schweigen sollten. Sie aber schrieen noch mehr und sprachen: Erbarme dich unser, Herr, Sohn Davids!
And the people rebuked them, that they might hold their peace: but they cried out the more, saying, Have mercy on us, O Lord, thou son of David.
32 Und Jesus blieb stehen und rief sie und sprach: Was wollt ihr, daß ich euch tun soll?
And Jesus stopt and called them, and said, What do ye desire me to do for you?
33 Sie sagen zu ihm: Herr, daß unsere Augen aufgetan werden.
They answered Him, Lord, that our eyes may be opened.
34 Jesus aber, innerlich bewegt, rührte ihre Augen an; und alsbald wurden ihre Augen sehend, und sie folgten ihm nach.
And Jesus had compassion on them, and touched their eyes; and straightway their eyes received sight, and they followed Him.
