Lukas 3
1 Aber im fünfzehnten Jahre der Regierung des Kaisers Tiberius, als Pontius Pilatus Landpfleger von Judäa war, und Herodes Vierfürst von Galiläa, und sein Bruder Philippus Vierfürst von Ituräa und der Landschaft Trachonitis, und Lysanias Vierfürst von Abilene,
NOW in the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar, Pontius Pilate being governor of Judea, and Herod tetrarch of Galilee, and Philip his brother tetrarch of Iturea and the region of Trachonitis, and Lysanias tetrarch of Abilene:
2 unter dem Hohenpriestertum von Annas und Kajaphas, geschah das Wort Gottes zu Johannes, dem Sohne Zacharias, in der Wüste.
when Annas and Caiaphas were high-priests, the word of God came to John the son of Zacharias in the wilderness;
3 Und er kam in die ganze Umgegend des Jordan und predigte die Taufe der Buße zur Vergebung der Sünden;
and he came into all the country on the confines of Jordan, preaching the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins;
4 wie geschrieben steht im Buche der Worte Jesaias, des Propheten: "Stimme eines Rufenden in der Wüste: Bereitet den Weg des Herrn, machet gerade seine Steige!
as it is written in the book of the words of the prophet Isaiah, saying, “The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths strait:
5 Jedes Tal wird ausgefüllt und jeder Berg und Hügel erniedrigt werden, und das Krumme wird zum geraden Wege und die höckerichten zu ebenen Wegen werden;
every valley shall be filled up, and every mountain and hill shall be levelled, and the crooked ways made strait, and the rough roads smooth:
6 und alles Fleisch wird das Heil Gottes sehen". [Jes. 40,3-5]
and all flesh shall see the salvation of God.”
7 Er sprach nun zu der Volksmenge, die hinausgingen, um von ihm getauft zu werden: Otternbrut! Wer hat euch gewiesen, dem kommenden Zorn zu entfliehen?
He said, therefore, to the multitudes who came out to be baptised by him, Ye broods of vipers, who hath warned you to fly from the approaching wrath?
8 Bringet nun der Buße würdige Früchte; und beginnet nicht, bei euch selbst zu sagen: Wir haben Abraham zum Vater; denn ich sage euch, daß Gott dem Abraham aus diesen Steinen Kinder zu erwecken vermag.
Produce then fruits worthy of repentance, and begin not to say in yourselves, We have a father, even Abraham; for I say unto you, That God is able out of these stones to raise up children to Abraham.
9 Schon ist aber auch die Axt an die Wurzel der Bäume gelegt [Siehe die Anm. zu Matth. 3,10;] jeder Baum nun, der nicht gute Frucht bringt, wird abgehauen und ins Feuer geworfen.
But now is the ax laid even to the root of the trees; every tree therefore that produceth not good fruit, is cut down and cast into the fire.
10 Und die Volksmenge fragte ihn und sprachen: Was sollen wir denn tun?
And the multitudes asked him, saying, What then shall we do?
11 Er aber antwortete und sprach zu ihnen: Wer zwei Leibröcke hat, teile dem mit, der keinen hat; und wer Speise hat, tue gleicherweise.
And he answering said to them, He that hath two coats, let him give to him that hath none; and he that hath provisions, let him do in like manner.
12 Es kamen aber auch Zöllner, um getauft zu werden; und sie sprachen zu ihm: Lehrer, was sollen wir tun?
Then came also the farmers of the taxes to be baptised, and they said unto him, Master, what shall we do?
13 Er aber sprach zu ihnen: Fordert nicht mehr, als euch bestimmt ist.
He said unto them, Exact nothing more than is appointed for you.
14 Es fragten ihn aber auch Kriegsleute und sprachen: Und wir, was sollen wir tun? Und er sprach zu ihnen: Tut niemand Gewalt, [O. Übet an niemand Erpressung] und klaget niemand fälschlich an, und begnüget euch mit eurem Solde.
And the military men also asked him, And what shall we do? And he said unto them, Extort nothing by force; nor turn informers; and be content with your pay.
15 Als aber das Volk in Erwartung war, und alle in ihren Herzen wegen Johannes überlegten, ob er nicht etwa der Christus sei,
Now when the people were in expectation, and many reasoned in their hearts respecting John, whether he were the Messiah,
16 antwortete Johannes allen und sprach: Ich zwar taufe euch mit Wasser; es kommt aber, der stärker ist als ich, dessen ich nicht würdig [Eig. genugsam, tüchtig] bin, ihm den Riemen seiner Sandalen zu lösen; er wird euch mit [W. in] Heiligem Geiste und Feuer taufen;
John addressed himself to them all, saying, I indeed baptise you with water; but one mightier than I is coming, the thong of whose sandals I am not worthy to untie: he shall baptise you with the Holy Ghost and with fire;
17 dessen Worfschaufel in seiner Hand ist, und er wird seine Tenne durch und durch reinigen und den Weizen in seine Scheune sammeln; die Spreu aber wird er verbrennen mit unauslöschlichem Feuer.
whose winnowing fan is in his hand, and he will thoroughly cleanse his threshing-floor, and collect the wheat into his granary; but the chaff he will burn with fire unquenchable.
18 Indem er nun auch mit vielem anderen ermahnte, verkündigte er dem Volke gute Botschaft.
Thus in many and various discourses exhorting them, he preached the glad tidings of the gospel to the people.
19 Herodes aber, der Vierfürst, weil er wegen der Herodias, des Weibes seines Bruders, und wegen alles Bösen, das Herodes getan hatte, von ihm gestraft wurde,
Now Herod the tetrarch, being reproved by him, on account of Herodias his brother Philip’s wife, and for all the other wicked actions which he had done,
20 fügte allem auch dies hinzu, daß er Johannes ins Gefängnis einschloß.
added this also to all the rest, and shut up John in prison.
21 Es geschah aber, als das ganze Volk getauft wurde, und Jesus getauft war und betete, daß der Himmel aufgetan wurde,
Now it came to pass, at the time when John was baptising all the people, that Jesus also was baptised, and as he prayed, the heaven was opened,
22 und der Heilige Geist in leiblicher Gestalt, wie eine Taube, auf ihn herabstieg, und eine Stimme aus dem Himmel kam: Du bist mein geliebter Sohn, an [W. in] dir habe ich Wohlgefallen gefunden.
and the Holy Ghost descended in a bodily form, like a dove, upon him, and a voice came from heaven, saying, Thou art my beloved Son, in thee I am well pleased.
23 Und er selbst, Jesus, begann ungefähr dreißig Jahre alt zu werden, und war, wie man meinte, ein Sohn des Joseph, des Eli,
And Jesus himself was about thirty years of age when he began his ministry, being (as was supposed the son of Joseph) of Heli,
