Richter 12
1 Und die Männer von Ephraim versammelten sich und zogen hinüber nach Norden, [O. nach Zaphon; vergl. Jos. 13,27] und sie sprachen zu Jephtha: Warum bist du durchgezogen, um wider die Kinder Ammon zu streiten, und hast uns nicht gerufen, daß wir mit dir gingen? Wir werden dein Haus über dir mit Feuer verbrennen!
And the men of Ephraim were called together, and passed over northward, —and said unto Jephthah—Wherefore didst thou pass over to do battle with the sons of Ammon, and, for us, didst not call, to go with thee? Thy house, will we consume over thee with fire.
2 Und Jephtha sprach zu ihnen: Einen heftigen Streit haben wir gehabt, ich und mein Volk, mit den Kindern Ammon; und ich rief euch, aber ihr habt mich nicht aus ihrer Hand gerettet.
And Jephthah said unto them, Great strife, had, I and my people, even with the sons of Ammon; but, when I cried unto you for help, ye saved me not out of their hand.
3 Und als ich sah, daß du nicht helfen wolltest, da setzte ich mein Leben aufs Spiel [Eig. stellte ich mein Leben in meine Hand; eine oft wiederkehrende Redensart] und zog hin wider die Kinder Ammon; und Jehova gab sie in meine Hand. Warum seid ihr denn an diesem Tage gegen mich heraufgezogen, um wider mich zu streiten?
So, when I saw that thou wast not going to save, then put I my life in my hand, and passed over against the sons of Ammon, and Yahweh delivered them into my hand. Wherefore, then, have ye come up against me this day, to fight against me?
4 Und Jephtha versammelte alle Männer von Gilead und stritt mit Ephraim; und die Männer von Gilead schlugen Ephraim, weil sie gesagt hatten: Flüchtlinge Ephraims seid ihr, ihr Gileaditer, [Eig. Gilead] inmitten Ephraims und inmitten Manasses!
And Jephthah gathered together all the men of Gilead, and fought with Ephraim, —and the men of Gilead smote Ephraim, because they said—Fugitives of Ephraim, are, ye, O ye Gileadites, in the midst of Ephraim, in the midst of Manasseh.
5 Und Gilead nahm Ephraim die Furten des Jordan. [O. besetzte die Furten des Jordan, die nach Ephraim führten. Vergl. Kap. 3,28] Und es geschah, wenn ein Flüchtling von Ephraim sprach: [Eig. wenn Flüchtlinge von Ephraim sprachen] Laß mich hinübergehen! so sprachen die Männer von Gilead zu ihm: Bist du ein Ephraimiter? [Eig. ein Ephrathiter]
And the Gileadites captured the fords of the Jordan, against the Ephraimites, —and so it was, that, when the fugitives of Ephraim said, Let me pass over, the men of Gilead said to him, An Ephraimite, art thou? and, if he said—Nay!
6 Und sagte er: Nein! so sprachen sie zu ihm: Sage doch: Schibboleth! [Strömung] Und sagte er: Sibboleth, und brachte es nicht fertig, richtig zu sprechen, dann ergriffen sie ihn und schlachteten ihn an den Furten des Jordan. Und es fielen in jener Zeit von Ephraim 42000.
they said to him, Come now, say Shibboleth, and, if he said Sibboleth, and he could not take heed to speak in that manner, then laid they hold on him, and slew him at the fords of the Jordan, —and there fell, at that time, of the Ephraimites, forty-two thousand.
7 Und Jephtha richtete Israel sechs Jahre; und Jephtha, der Gileaditer, starb und wurde in einer der Städte Gileads begraben.
And, when Jephthah had judged Israel six years, then Jephthah the Gileadite died, and was buried in [one of] the cities of Gilead.
8 Und nach ihm richtete Israel Ibzan von Bethlehem.
And there judged Israel, after him, Ibzan of Bethlehem.
9 Und er hatte dreißig Söhne; und dreißig Töchter entließ er aus dem Hause, und dreißig Töchter brachte er von außen für seine Söhne herein. Und er richtete Israel sieben Jahre.
And so it was, he had thirty sons, and, thirty daughters, sent he abroad, while, thirty daughters, brought he from abroad for his sons. And he judged Israel seven years.
10 Und Ibzan starb und wurde zu Bethlehem begraben.
And Ibzan died, and was buried in Bethlehem.
11 Und nach ihm richtete Israel Elon, der Sebuloniter; und er richtete Israel zehn Jahre.
And, after him, did Elon the Zebulunite judge Israel, —and he judged Israel, ten years.
12 Und Elon, der Sebuloniter, starb und wurde zu Ajjalon im Lande Sebulon begraben.
And Elon the Zebulunite died, and was buried in Aijalon, in the land of Zebulun.
13 Und nach ihm richtete Israel Abdon, der Sohn Hillels, der Pirhathoniter.
And there judged Israel, after him, Abdon son of Hillel, the Pirathonite.
14 Und er hatte vierzig Söhne und dreißig Enkel, die auf siebzig Eseln ritten. Und er richtete Israel acht Jahre.
And so it was, he had forty sons and thirty grandsons, who rode on seventy ass colts, —and he judged Israel eight years.
15 Und Abdon, der Sohn Hillels, der Pirhathoniter, starb und wurde zu Pirhathon begraben im Lande Ephraim, im Gebirge der Amalekiter.
And Abdon son of Hillel, the Pirathonite died, —and was buried in Pirathon, in the land of Ephraim, in the hill country of the Amalekites.
