Job 40
1 Und Jehova antwortete Hiob und sprach:
And Yahweh responded to Job, and said: —
2 Will der Tadler rechten mit dem Allmächtigen? Der da Gott zurechtweist, antworte darauf!
Shall a reprover contend, with the Almighty? He that disputeth with GOD, let him answer it!
3 Und Hiob antwortete Jehova und sprach:
Then Job responded to Yahweh, and said: —
4 Siehe, zu gering bin ich, was soll ich dir erwidern? Ich lege meine Hand auf meinen Mund.
Lo! I am of no account, what shall I reply to thee? My hand, have I laid on my mouth:
5 Einmal habe ich geredet, und ich will nicht mehr antworten, [O. anheben] und zweimal, und ich will es nicht mehr tun.
Once, have I spoken, but I will not proceed, yea twice, but I will not add.
6 Und Jehova antwortete Hiob aus dem Sturme und sprach:
So then Yahweh responded to Job, out of a storm, and said: —
7 Gürte doch wie ein Mann deine Lenden; ich will dich fragen, und du belehre mich!
Gird, I pray thee—as a strong man—thy loins, I will ask thee, and inform thou me.
8 Willst du gar mein Recht zunichte machen, mich verdammen, damit du gerecht seiest?
Wilt thou even frustrate my justice? Wilt thou condemn me, that thou mayest appear right?
9 Oder hast du einen Arm wie Gott, [El] und kannst du donnern mit einer Stimme wie er?
But if, an arm like GOD, thou hast, and, with a voice like his, thou canst thunder,
10 Schmücke dich doch mit Erhabenheit und Hoheit, und kleide dich in Pracht und Majestät!
Deck thyself, I pray thee, with majesty and grandeur, Yea, with dignity and splendour, thou shalt clothe thyself;
11 Gieße aus die Ausbrüche [O. Fluten, wie Kap. 21,30] deines Zornes, und sieh an alles Hoffärtige und erniedrige es!
Pour out thy transports of anger, and look on every one who is high, and lay him low;
12 Sieh an alles Hoffärtige, beuge es, und reiße nieder die Gesetzlosen auf ihrer Stelle!
Look on every one who is high, and humble him, yea tread down the lawless, on the spot:
13 Verbirg sie allesamt in den Staub, schließe ihre Angesichter in Verborgenheit ein!
Hide them in the dust all together, Their faces, bind thou in darkness;
14 Dann werde auch ich dich preisen, daß deine Rechte dir Hülfe schafft.
And, even I myself, will praise thee, in that thine own right hand can bring thee salvation.
15 Sieh doch den Behemoth, [wohl das Nilpferd] den ich mit dir gemacht habe; er frißt Gras wie das Rind.
Behold, I pray thee, the Hippopotamus, which I made with thee, Grass—like the ox, he eateth;
16 Sieh doch, seine Kraft ist in seinen Lenden, und seine Stärke in den Muskeln seines Bauches.
Behold, I pray thee, his strength in his loins, and his force, in the muscles of his belly;
17 Er biegt seinen Schwanz gleich einer Ceder, die Sehnen seiner Schenkel sind verflochten.
He bendeth down his tail like a cedar, the sinews of his thighs, are twisted together;
18 Seine Knochen sind Röhren von Erz, seine Gebeine gleich Barren von Eisen.
His bones, are barrels of bronze, his frame, is like hammered bars of iron:
19 Er ist der Erstling der Wege Gottes; [El] der ihn gemacht, hat ihm sein Schwert [d. h. wahrsch. die riesigen Schneidezähne des Nilpferdes] beschafft.
He, is the beginning of the ways of GOD, Let his maker, present him his sword:
20 Denn die Berge tragen ihm Futter, und daselbst spielt alles Getier des Feldes.
Surely the mountains bring, produce, to him, where, all the wild beasts of the field, do play;
21 Unter Lotosbüschen legt er sich nieder, im Versteck von Rohr und Sumpf;
Under the lotus-trees, he lieth down, in a covert of reed and swamp;
22 Lotosbüsche bedecken ihn mit ihrem Schatten, [Eig. als sein Schatten] es umgeben ihn die Weiden des Baches.
The lotus-trees cover him with their shade, the willows of the torrent-bed compass him about;
23 Siehe, der Strom schwillt mächtig an, er flieht nicht ängstlich davon; er bleibt wohlgemut, wenn ein Jordan gegen sein Maul hervorbricht.
Lo! the river becometh insolent—he is not alarmed! He is confident, though a Jordan burst forth to his mouth:
24 Fängt man ihn wohl vor seinen Augen, durchbohrt man ihm die Nase mit einem Fangseile? [Eig. mit einer Falle]
Before his eyes, shall he be caught? With a hook, can one pierce his nose?
