Job 36
1 Und Elihu fuhr fort und sprach:
Then continued Elihu, and said,
2 Harre mir ein wenig, und ich will dir berichten; denn noch sind Worte da für Gott.
Wait for me a little, and I will instruct thee; for [I have] still some words on God's behalf.
3 Ich will mein Wissen von weither holen, [O. zu Fernem erheben] und meinem Schöpfer Gerechtigkeit geben.
I will lift up my knowledge for him who is afar, and for my Maker will I obtain righteousness.
4 Denn wahrlich, meine Worte sind keine Lüge; ein an Wissen [Eig. an Erkenntnissen; so auch Kap. 37,16] Vollkommener ist bei dir.
For truly no falsehood is [in] my words: one that is upright in [his] opinions [dealeth now] with thee.
5 Siehe, Gott [El] ist mächtig, und doch verachtet er niemand, [Eig. nicht] -mächtig an Kraft des Verstandes.
Behold, God is mighty, and despiseth not any: he is mighty in strength of intellect.
6 Er erhält den Gesetzlosen nicht am Leben, und das Recht der Elenden gewährt er.
He permitteth not the wicked to live; but he procureth justice for the afflicted.
7 Er zieht seine Augen nicht ab von dem Gerechten, und mit Königen auf den Thron, dahin setzt er sie auf immerdar, und sie sind erhöht.
He withdraweth not his eyes from the righteous; but [he placeth them] with kings on the throne; yea, he doth establish them for ever, and they are exalted.
8 Und wenn sie mit Fesseln gebunden sind, in Stricken des Elends gefangen werden,
And if they be bound in fetters, and if they be entangled in the cords of affliction:
9 dann macht er ihnen kund ihr Tun und ihre Übertretungen, daß sie sich trotzig gebärdeten;
Then doth he tell them of their work, and of their transgressions, when they had become strong.
10 und er öffnet ihr Ohr der Zucht und spricht, daß sie umkehren sollen vom Frevel.
And he openeth thus their ear to correction, and saith that they should return from wrong-doing.
11 Wenn sie hören und sich unterwerfen, so werden sie ihre Tage in Wohlfahrt verbringen und ihre Jahre in Annehmlichkeiten.
If they hearken and serve [him], they will spend their days in happiness, and their years in pleasures.
12 Wenn sie aber nicht hören, so rennen sie ins Geschoß und verscheiden ohne Erkenntnis.
But if they hearken not, they will pass away through the sword, and they will perish in want of knowledge.
13 Aber die ruchlosen Herzens sind, hegen Zorn: sie rufen nicht um Hülfe, wenn er sie gefesselt hat.
But the hypocrites in heart persevere in wrath; they will not offer entreaty when he bindeth them:
14 Ihre Seele stirbt dahin in der Jugend, und ihr Leben unter den Schandbuben.
Their soul will die in youth, and their life, among the incestuous.
15 Den Elenden errettet er in seinem [O. durch sein] Elend, [O. den Dulder in seinem Dulden] und in der [O. durch die] Drangsal öffnet er ihnen das Ohr.
He delivereth the afflicted through his affliction, and openeth through oppression his ear.
16 So hätte er auch dich aus dem Rachen der Bedrängnis in einen weiten Raum geführt, wo keine Beengung gewesen, [Eig. dessen Boden nicht beengt gewesen wäre] und die Besetzung deines Tisches würde voll Fett sein.
And also thee hath he incited away from the jaws of distress into a wide space, on the site of which there is no straitness; and what is set on thy table is full of fatness.
17 Aber du bist mit dem Urteil des Gesetzlosen erfüllt: Urteil und Gericht werden dich ergreifen.
But if thou art full of the judgment of the wicked: [divine] judgment and decree will support each other.
18 Denn der Grimm, möge er dich ja nicht verlocken zur [Eig. in] Verhöhnung, und die Größe des Lösegeldes verleite dich nicht!
For there would be fury, If aught were to incite thee to utter an abundance [of rebellious words]; and the greatness of the infliction must not mislead thee.
19 Soll dich dein Schreien außer Bedrängnis stellen und alle Anstrengungen der Kraft?
Will he esteem thy riches? no, not gold ore, nor all the highest forces of strength.
20 Sehne dich nicht nach der Nacht, welche Völker plötzlich [W. auf ihrer Stelle] hinwegheben wird. [O. wo Völker plötzlich hinweggehoben werden]
Desire then not eagerly the night, when nations pass away in their place.
21 Hüte dich, wende dich nicht zum Frevel, denn das hast du dem Elend [O. dem Dulden; wie v 15] vorgezogen.
Take heed, turn not thyself to wrong-doing, so that thou wouldst choose this because of [thy] affliction.
22 Siehe, Gott [El] handelt erhaben in seiner Macht; wer ist ein Lehrer wie er?
Behold, God is exalted by his power: who is an instructer like him?
23 Wer hat ihm seinen Weg vorgeschrieben, und wer dürfte sagen: Du hast Unrecht getan?
Who hath given him a charge concerning his way? or who hath ever said, Thou hast acted unjustly?
24 Gedenke daran, daß du sein Tun erhebest, welches Menschen besingen.
Reflect, that thou shouldst magnify his work, which [other] men have beheld.
25 Alle Menschen schauen es an, der Sterbliche erblickt es aus der Ferne.
All men have looked at it [with astonishment]; the mortal gazeth at it from afar.
26 Siehe, Gott [El] ist zu erhaben für unsere Erkenntnis; [W. ist erhaben, so daß wir nicht erkennen] die Zahl seiner Jahre, sie ist unerforschlich.
Behold, God is great, and we comprehend him not, the number of his years can truly not be searched out.
27 Denn er zieht Wassertropfen herauf; [And. üb.: nieder] von dem Dunst, den er bildet, träufeln sie als Regen,
For he taketh away drops of water, which are purified into rain in his mist:
28 den die Wolken [S. die Anm. zu Kap. 35,5] rieseln und tropfen lassen auf viele Menschen.
These drop down out of the skies; they distil upon the multitude of men.
29 Versteht man gar das Ausbreiten des Gewölks, das Krachen seines Zeltes?
But [what man] can understand the outspreadings of the clouds? the tumult of his tabernacle?
30 Siehe, er breitet sein Licht um sich aus, und die Gründe [W. Wurzeln] des Meeres bedeckt er. [O. mit den Tiefen des Meeres umhüllt er sich]
Behold, he spreadeth out over it his light, and covereth up the roots of the sea.
31 Denn durch dieses richtet er Völker, gibt Speise im Überfluß.
For by means of them he judgeth nations, he giveth food in superfluity.
32 Seine Hände umhüllt er mit dem Blitz, [W. mit Licht; so auch Kap. 37,3. 11. 15] und er entbietet ihn gegen denjenigen, den er treffen soll. [O. als einer, der sicher trifft. And.: gegen den Feind]
[His] hands he covereth with light; and he commandeth it to strike the one who striveth against him.
33 Sein Rollen kündigt ihn an, sogar das Vieh sein Heranziehen.
The noise of his storm telleth of it, yea, the cattle also, of the rising tempest.
