Job 35
1 Und Elihu hob wieder an und sprach:
And Elihu answereth and saith: —
2 Hältst du das für recht? Du hast gesagt: Meine Gerechtigkeit ist größer als diejenige Gottes. [El]
This hast thou reckoned for judgment: Thou hast said — 'My righteousness [is] more than God's?'
3 Denn du fragst, was sie dir nütze; was gewinne ich mehr, als wenn ich gesündigt hätte? -
For thou sayest, 'What doth it profit Thee! What do I profit from my sin?'
4 Ich will dir Worte erwidern und deinen Genossen mit dir.
I return thee words, and thy friends with thee,
5 Blicke gen Himmel und sieh, und schaue die Wolken [Das hebr. Wort bezeichnet eigentl. die dünnen Luftschichten oberhalb der schweren Wolken, dann auch das Himmelsgewölbe; vergl. Kap. 37,18. 21] an, -sie sind höher als du.
Behold attentively the heavens — and see, And behold the clouds, They have been higher than thou.
6 Wenn du sündigst, was tust du ihm an? und mehren sich deine Übertretungen, was fügst du ihm zu?
If thou hast sinned, what dost thou against Him? And thy transgressions have been multiplied, What dost thou to Him?
7 Wenn du gerecht bist, was gibst du ihm, oder was empfängt er aus deiner Hand?
If thou hast been righteous, What dost thou give to Him? Or what from thy hand doth He receive?
8 Für einen Mann wie du gilt deine Gesetzlosigkeit etwas, und für ein Menschenkind deine Gerechtigkeit.
For a man like thyself [is] thy wickedness, And for a son of man thy righteousness.
9 Wegen der Menge der Bedrückungen schreit man; man ruft um Hülfe wegen des Armes der Großen.
Because of the multitude of oppressions They cause to cry out, They cry because of the arm of the mighty.
10 Aber man spricht nicht: Wo ist Gott, mein Schöpfer, der Gesänge gibt in der Nacht,
And none said, 'Where [is] God my maker? Giving songs in the night,
11 der uns mehr belehrt als die Tiere der Erde, und uns weiser macht als das [O. uns belehrt durch die Tiere, weise macht durch das usw.; vergl. Kap. 12,7] Gevögel des Himmels?
Teaching us more than the beasts of the earth, Yea, than the fowl of the heavens He maketh us wiser.'
12 Alsdann schreit man, wegen des Hochmuts der Bösen, aber er antwortet nicht.
There they cry, and He doth not answer, Because of the pride of evil doers.
13 Auf nur Eitles hört Gott [El] nicht, und der Allmächtige schaut es nicht an.
Surely vanity God doth not hear, And the Mighty doth not behold it.
14 Wenn du auch sagst, du schauest ihn nicht-die Rechtssache ist vor ihm; so harre sein.
Yea, though thou sayest thou dost not behold Him, Judgment [is] before Him, and stay for Him.
15 Und nun, wenn sein Zorn nicht heimgesucht hat, sollte er nicht sehr wohl um den Übermut wissen?
And, now, because there is not, He hath appointed His anger, And He hath not known in great extremity.
16 Und so sperrt Hiob eitler Weise seinen Mund auf, häuft Worte ohne Erkenntnis.
And Job [with] vanity doth open his mouth, Without knowledge words he multiplieth.
