Jeremia 4
1 Wenn du umkehrst, Israel, spricht Jehova, zu mir umkehrst, und wenn du deine Scheusale von meinem Angesicht hinwegtust, und nicht mehr umherschweifst, sondern schwörst [And. üb.: so sollst du nicht mehr umherirren; und schwörst du]:
If you will come back, O Israel, says the Lord, you will come back to me: and if you will put away your disgusting ways, you will not be sent away from before me.
2 So wahr Jehova lebt! in Wahrheit, in Recht [d. i. in gerechter Sache] und in Gerechtigkeit, so werden die Nationen sich in ihm segnen und sich seiner rühmen.
And you will take your oath, By the living Lord, in good faith and wisdom and righteousness; and the nations will make use of you as a blessing, and in you will they take a pride.
3 Denn so spricht Jehova zu den Männern von Juda und zu Jerusalem: Pflüget euch einen Neubruch, und säet nicht unter die Dornen.
For this is what the Lord says to the men of Judah and to Jerusalem: Get your unworked land ploughed up, do not put in your seeds among thorns.
4 Beschneidet euch für Jehova und tut hinweg die Vorhäute eurer Herzen, ihr Männer von Juda und ihr Bewohner von Jerusalem, damit mein Grimm nicht ausbreche wie ein Feuer und unauslöschlich brenne wegen der Bosheit eurer Handlungen.
Undergo a circumcision of the heart, you men of Judah and people of Jerusalem: or my wrath may come out like fire, burning so that no one is able to put it out, because of the evil of your doings.
5 Verkündiget in Juda und laßt in Jerusalem vernehmen, und sprechet: Stoßet in die Posaune im Lande! rufet aus voller Kehle und sprechet: Versammelt euch und laßt uns in die festen Städte ziehen!
Say openly in Judah, give it out in Jerusalem, and say, Let the horn be sounded in the land: crying out in a loud voice, Come together, and let us go into the walled towns.
6 Erhebet ein Panier gegen Zion hin; flüchtet, bleibet nicht stehen! denn ich bringe Unglück von Norden her und große Zerschmetterung.
Put up a flag for a sign to Zion: go in flight so that you may be safe, waiting no longer: for I will send evil from the north, and a great destruction.
7 Ein Löwe steigt herauf aus seinem Dickicht, und ein Verderber der Nationen bricht auf; er zieht von seinem Orte aus, um dein Land zur Wüste zu machen, daß deine Städte zerstört werden, ohne Bewohner.
A lion has gone up from his secret place in the woods, and one who makes waste the nations is on his way; he has gone out from his place, to make your land unpeopled, so that your towns will be made waste, with no man living in them.
8 Darum gürtet euch Sacktuch um, klaget und jammert! denn die Glut des Zornes Jehovas hat sich nicht von uns abgewendet.
For this put on haircloth, with weeping and loud crying: for the burning wrath of the Lord is not turned back from us.
9 Und es wird geschehen an jenem Tage, spricht Jehova, da wird das Herz des Königs und das Herz der Fürsten vergehen; und die Priester werden sich entsetzen, und die Propheten erstarrt sein.
And it will come about in that day, says the Lord, that the heart of the king will be dead in him, and the hearts of the rulers; and the priests will be overcome with fear, and the prophets with wonder.
10 Da sprach ich: Ach, Herr, Jehova! fürwahr, getäuscht hast du dieses Volk und Jerusalem, indem du sprachst: Ihr werdet Frieden haben; und das Schwert dringt bis an die Seele!
Then said I, Ah, Lord God! your words were not true when you said to this people and to Jerusalem, You will have peace; when the sword has come even to the soul.
11 In jener Zeit wird diesem Volke und Jerusalem gesagt werden: Ein scharfer Wind von den kahlen Höhen in der Wüste kommt des Weges zur Tochter meines Volkes, nicht zum Worfeln und nicht zum Säubern;
At that time it will be said to this people and to Jerusalem, A burning wind from the open hilltops in the waste land is blowing on the daughter of my people, not for separating or cleaning the grain;
12 ein Wind zu voll dazu [Eig. voller als diese] wird mir kommen. Nun will auch ich Gerichte über sie aussprechen.
A full wind will come for me: and now I will give my decision against them.
13 Siehe, gleich Wolken zieht er herauf, und wie der Sturmwind sind seine Wagen, schneller als Adler seine Rosse. Wehe uns! denn wir sind verwüstet.
See, he will come up like the clouds, and his war-carriages like the storm-wind: his horses are quicker than eagles. Sorrow is ours, for destruction has come on us.
14 Wasche dein Herz rein von Bosheit, Jerusalem, damit du gerettet werdest! Wie lange sollen deine heillosen Anschläge in deinem Innern weilen?
O Jerusalem, make your heart clean from evil, so that you may have salvation. How long are evil purposes to have a resting-place in you?
15 Denn eine Stimme berichtet von Dan und verkündet Unheil [O. Denn die Stimme eines Berichtenden von Dan und eines Unheilverkündenden] vom Gebirge Ephraim her.
For a voice is sounding from Dan, giving out evil from the hills of Ephraim:
16 Meldet es den Nationen, siehe, verkündet es Jerusalem: Belagerer kommen aus fernem Lande und lassen ihre Stimme erschallen wider die Städte Judas;
Make this come to the minds of the nations, make a statement openly against Jerusalem, that attackers are coming from a far country and their voices will be loud against the towns of Judah.
17 wie Feldwächter sind sie ringsumher wider dasselbe. Denn gegen mich ist es widerspenstig gewesen, spricht Jehova.
Like keepers of a field they are against her on every side; because she has been fighting against me, says the Lord.
18 Dein Weg und deine Handlungen haben dir solches bewirkt; dies ist deine Bosheit [d. h. die Folge deiner Bosheit; ] ja, es ist bitter, ja, es dringt bis an dein Herz.
Your ways and your doings have made these things come on you; this is your sin; truly it is bitter, going deep into your heart.
19 Meine Eingeweide, meine Eingeweide! Mir ist angst! Die Wände meines Herzens! Es tobt in mir mein Herz! Ich kann nicht schweigen! Denn du, meine Seele, hörst den Schall der Posaune, Kriegsgeschrei:
My soul, my soul! I am pained to my inmost heart; my heart is troubled in me; I am not able to be quiet, because the sound of the horn, the note of war, has come to my ears.
20 Zerstörung [Eig. Zerschmetterung] über Zerstörung wird ausgerufen. Denn das ganze Land ist verwüstet; plötzlich sind meine Zelte zerstört, meine Zeltbehänge in einem Augenblick.
News is given of destruction on destruction; all the land is made waste: suddenly my tents, straight away my curtains, are made waste.
21 Wie lange soll ich das Panier sehen, den Schall der Posaune hören? -
How long will I go on seeing the flag and hearing the sound of the war-horn?
22 Denn mein Volk ist närrisch, mich kennen sie nicht; törichte Kinder sind sie und unverständig. Weise sind sie, Böses zu tun; aber Gutes zu tun verstehen sie nicht. -
For my people are foolish, they have no knowledge of me; they are evil-minded children, without sense, all of them: they are wise in evil-doing, but have no knowledge of doing good.
23 Ich schaue die Erde an und siehe, sie ist wüst und leer [Derselbe Ausdruck wie 1. Mose 1,2;] und gen Himmel, und sein Licht ist nicht da.
Looking at the earth, I saw that it was waste and without form; and to the heavens, that they had no light.
24 Ich schaue die Berge an, und siehe, sie beben; und alle Hügel schwanken.
Looking at the mountains, I saw them shaking, and all the hills were moved about.
25 Ich schaue, und siehe, kein Mensch ist da; und alle Vögel des Himmels sind entflohen.
Looking, I saw that there was no man, and all the birds of heaven had gone in flight.
26 Ich schaue, und siehe, der Karmel [O. das Fruchtgefilde] ist eine Wüste; und alle seine Städte sind niedergerissen vor Jehova, vor der Glut seines Zornes.
Looking, I saw that the fertile field was a waste, and all its towns were broken down before the Lord and before his burning wrath.
27 Denn so spricht Jehova: Das ganze Land soll eine Wüste werden; doch will ich es nicht gänzlich zerstören.
For this is what the Lord has said: All the land will become a waste; I will make destruction complete.
28 Darum wird die Erde trauern, und der Himmel oben schwarz werden, weil ich es geredet, beschlossen habe; und ich werde es mich nicht gereuen lassen und nicht davon zurückkommen.
The earth will be weeping for this, and the heavens on high will be black: because I have said it, and I will not go back from it; it is my purpose, and it will not be changed.
29 Vor dem Geschrei der Reiter und der Bogenschützen flieht jede Stadt: sie gehen ins Dickicht und ersteigen die Felsen; jede Stadt ist verlassen, und kein Mensch wohnt darin.
All the land is in flight because of the noise of the horsemen and the bowmen; they have taken cover in the woodland and up on the rocks: every town has been given up, not a man is living in them.
30 Und du, Verwüstete, was wirst du tun? Wenn du dich auch in Karmesin kleidest, wenn du mit goldenem Geschmeide dich schmückst, wenn du deine Augen mit Schminke aufreißest: vergeblich machst du dich schön; die Buhlen verschmähen dich, sie trachten nach deinem Leben.
And you, when you are made waste, what will you do? Though you are clothed in red, though you make yourself beautiful with ornaments of gold, though you make your eyes wide with paint, it is for nothing that you make yourself fair; your lovers have no more desire for you, they have designs on your life.
31 Denn ich höre eine Stimme wie einer Kreißenden, Angst wie einer Erstgebärenden, die Stimme der Tochter Zion; sie seufzt, sie breitet ihre Hände aus: Wehe mir! denn kraftlos erliegt meine Seele den Mördern.
A voice has come to my ears like the voice of a woman in birth-pains, the pain of one giving birth to her first child, the voice of the daughter of Zion, fighting for breath, stretching out her hands, saying, Now sorrow is mine! for my strength is gone from me before the takers of life.
