Jesaja 48

1 Höret dieses, Haus Jakob! Die ihr mit dem Namen Israel genannt und aus den Wassern Judas hervorgegangen seid, die ihr schwöret bei dem Namen Jehovas und des Gottes Israels rühmend gedenket, doch nicht in Wahrheit und nicht in Gerechtigkeit;

Hear this, O house of Jacob! Ye that are called by the name of Israel; Ye that have come forth from the fountain of Judah; Ye that swear by the name of Jehovah, And praise the God of Israel, But not in truth and sincerity!

2 denn nach der heiligen Stadt nennen sie sich, und sie stützen sich [O. und nicht in Gerechtigkeit, wenn sie sich auch nennen und sich stützen] auf den Gott Israels, Jehova der Heerscharen ist sein Name:

For they call themselves of the holy city, And stay themselves on the God of Israel, Whose name is Jehovah of hosts: —

3 Ich habe das Frühere vorlängst verkündet, und aus meinem Munde ist es hervorgegangen, und ich habe es hören lassen; plötzlich vollführte ich es, und es traf ein.

What hath happened I declared to you long ago; From my mouth it proceeded, and I made it known; On a sudden I effected it, and it came to pass.

4 Weil ich wußte, daß du hart bist, und daß dein Nacken eine eiserne Sehne und deine Stirn von Erz ist,

Because I knew that thou art obstinate, And that thy neck is a bar of iron, And that thy brow is brass,

5 so habe ich es vorlängst dir verkündet, ehe es eintraf, habe ich es dich hören lassen; damit du nicht sagen möchtest: Mein Götze [Eig. Götzenbild] hat es getan, und mein geschnitztes und mein gegossenes Bild hat es geboten.

I declared it to thee long ago; Before it came to pass, I made it known to thee; Lest thou shouldst say, My idol effected it, And my graven image, and my molten image ordained it.

6 Du hast es gehört, betrachte es alles; und ihr, wollt ihr es nicht bekennen? Von nun an lasse ich dich Neues hören und Verborgengehaltenes und was du nicht gewußt hast.

Thou hast heard it; now see it all! And will ye not confess it? From this time I make you hear a new thing, Even a hidden thing, which thou hast not known.

7 Jetzt ist es geschaffen und nicht vorlängst, und vor diesem Tage hast du nicht davon gehört; damit du nicht sagen möchtest: Siehe, ich habe es gewußt.

It is produced now, and not long ago; Before this day thou hast not heard of it, Lest thou shouldst say, Behold, I knew it.

8 Du hast es weder gehört noch gewußt, noch war von längsther dein Ohr geöffnet; [Eig. offen] denn ich wußte, daß du gar treulos bist, und daß man dich von Mutterleibe an einen Übertreter [O. einen Abtrünnigen] genannt hat.

Yea, thou heardest it not; yea, thou knewest it not; Yea, it was not disclosed to thee long ago; For I knew that thou wast wholly faithless, And wast called rebellious from thy birth.

9 Um meines Namens willen verziehe ich meinen Zorn, und um meines Ruhmes willen bezwinge ich ihn, dir zu gut, um dich nicht auszurotten.

For the sake of my name I will defer my anger, And for the sake of my praise I will restrain it from thee, That I may not utterly cut thee off.

10 Siehe, ich habe dich geläutert, doch nicht wie Silber; ich habe dich geprüft im Schmelzofen des Elends.

Behold, I have melted thee, and found no silver; I have tried thee in the furnace of affliction.

11 Um meinetwillen, um meinetwillen will ich es tun; denn wie würde mein Name [W. er] entweiht werden! [Vergl. Hes. 36,19-24] und meine Ehre gebe ich keinem anderen.

For mine own sake will I do it; For how would my name be blasphemed? And my glory will I not give to another.

12 Höre auf mich, Jakob, und Israel, mein Berufener! Ich bin, der da ist, [O. derselbe] ich der Erste, ich auch der Letzte.

Hearken to me, O Jacob, And Israel, whom I have called! I am He, I am the first, and I the last.

13 Auch hat meine Hand die Erde gegründet, und meine Rechte die Himmel ausgespannt; ich rufe ihnen zu: allesamt stehen sie da.

Yea, my hand hath founded the earth, And my right hand hath spread out the heavens; I called them; they stood forth together.

14 Versammelt euch, ihr alle, und höret! Wer unter ihnen hat dieses verkündet? Den Jehova liebt, der wird sein Wohlgefallen [O. seinen Willen] vollführen an Babel und seinen Arm an den Chaldäern.

Assemble yourselves, all of you, and hear! Who among you hath declared these things? He whom Jehovah loveth will execute his pleasure upon Babylon, And his power upon the Chaldaeans.

15 Ich, ich habe geredet, ja, ich habe ihn gerufen; ich habe ihn kommen lassen, und sein Weg wird gelingen.

I, even I, have spoken; yea, I have called him; I have brought him, and his way shall be prosperous.

16 Nahet euch zu mir, höret dieses! Ich habe vom Anfang an nicht im Verborgenen geredet; von der Zeit an, da es ward, bin ich da. -Und nun hat der Herr, Jehova, mich gesandt und sein Geist. - [O. mit seinem Geiste]

Draw near to me, and hear ye this! I spake not in secret from the beginning; And since it began to be, I have been there; And now hath the Lord Jehovah sent me with his spirit.

17 So spricht Jehova, dein Erlöser, der Heilige Israels: Ich bin Jehova, dein Gott, der dich lehrt, [O. Ich, Jehova, dein Gott lehre dich] zu tun, was dir frommt, der dich leitet auf dem Wege, den du gehen sollst.

Thus saith Jehovah, thy Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel; I am Jehovah, thy God, who teacheth thee what will profit thee; Who leadeth thee in the way thou shouldst go.

18 O daß du gemerkt hättest auf meine Gebote! dann würde dein Friede gewesen sein wie ein Strom, und deine Gerechtigkeit wie des Meeres Wogen;

O that thou wouldst hearken to my commandments! Then shall thy peace be as a river, And thy prosperity as the waves of the sea;

19 und dein Same würde gewesen sein wie der Sand, und die Sprößlinge deines Leibes wie seine Körner; sein Name würde nicht ausgerottet und nicht vertilgt werden vor meinem Angesicht.

Then shall thy posterity be as the sand, And the fruit of thy body as the offspring of the sea; Thy name shall not be cut off, nor destroyed before me.

20 Ziehet aus Babel, fliehet aus Chaldäa mit Jubelschall; verkündiget, laßt dieses hören, bringet es aus bis an das Ende der Erde! Sprechet: Jehova hat seinen Knecht Jakob erlöst.

Come ye forth from Babylon, flee ye from the land of the Chaldaeans with the voice of joy! Publish ye this, and make it known; Let it resound to the ends of the earth! Say: “Jehovah hath redeemed his servant Jacob;

21 Und sie dürsteten nicht, als er sie durch die Wüste führte; er ließ ihnen Wasser rieseln aus dem Felsen, er spaltete den Felsen, und Wasser flossen heraus. -

They thirst not in the deserts through which he leadeth them; Waters from the rock he causeth to flow for them; He cleaveth the rock, and the waters gush forth.

22 Kein Friede den Gesetzlosen! spricht Jehova. -

There is no peace, saith Jehovah, for the wicked.”
