Jesaja 42
1 Siehe, mein Knecht, den ich stütze, mein Auserwählter, an welchem meine Seele Wohlgefallen hat: Ich habe meinen Geist auf ihn gelegt, er wird den Nationen das Recht kundtun. [Eig. das Recht hinausbringen zu den Nationen]
See my servant, whom I am supporting, my loved one, in whom I take delight: I have put my spirit on him; he will give the knowledge of the true God to the nations.
2 Er wird nicht schreien und nicht erheben noch seine Stimme hören lassen auf der Straße.
He will make no cry, his voice will not be loud: his words will not come to men's ears in the streets.
3 Das geknickte Rohr wird er nicht zerbrechen, und den glimmenden Docht wird er nicht auslöschen; er wird der Wahrheit gemäß das Recht kundtun. [Eig. hervorgehen lassen]
He will not let a crushed stem be quite broken, and he will not let a feebly burning light be put out: he will go on sending out the true word to the peoples.
4 Er wird nicht ermatten [Eig. verglimmen] noch niedersinken, [Eig. knicken] bis er das Recht auf Erden gegründet hat; und die Inseln werden auf seine Lehre harren. -
His light will not be put out, and he will not be crushed, till he has given the knowledge of the true God to the earth, and the sea-lands will be waiting for his teaching.
5 So spricht Gott, [Eig. der Gott [El]] Jehova, der die Himmel schuf und sie ausspannte, der die Erde ausbreitete mit ihren Gewächsen, dem Volke auf ihr den Odem gab, [O. gibt] und den Lebenshauch denen, die darauf wandeln:
God the Lord, even he who made the heavens, measuring them out on high; stretching out the earth, and giving its produce; he who gives breath to the people on it, and life to those who go about on it, says:
6 Ich, Jehova, ich habe dich gerufen in Gerechtigkeit und ergriff dich bei der Hand; und ich werde dich behüten und dich setzen zum Bunde des Volkes, [Vergl. Kap. 49,8] zum Licht der Nationen:
I the Lord have made you the vessel of my purpose, I have taken you by the hand, and kept you safe, and I have given you to be an agreement to the people, and a light to the nations:
7 um blinde Augen aufzutun, um Gefangene aus dem Kerker herauszuführen, und aus dem Gefängnis, die in der Finsternis sitzen. - [Eig. die Bewohner der Finsternis]
To give eyes to the blind, to make free the prisoners from the prison, to let out those who are shut up in the dark.
8 Ich bin Jehova, das ist mein Name; und meine Ehre gebe ich keinem anderen, noch meinen Ruhm den geschnitzten Bildern.
I am the Lord; that is my name: I will not give my glory to another, or my praise to pictured images.
9 Das Frühere, siehe, es ist eingetroffen, und Neues verkündige ich; ehe es hervorsproßt, lasse ich es euch hören.
See, the things said before have come about, and now I give word of new things: before they come I give you news of them.
10 Singet Jehova ein neues Lied, seinen Ruhm vom Ende der Erde: die ihr das Meer befahret, und alles, was es erfüllt, ihr Inseln und ihre Bewohner!
Make a new song to the Lord, and let his praise be sounded from the end of the earth; you who go down to the sea, and everything in it, the sea-lands and their people.
11 Es mögen ihre Stimme erheben die Steppe und ihre Städte, die Dörfer, welche Kedar [S. die Anm. zu Hes. 27,21] bewohnt; jubeln mögen die Bewohner von Sela, [d. i. der felsigen Gegend] jauchzen vom Gipfel der Berge her!
Let the waste land and its flocks be glad, the tent-circles of Kedar; let the people of the rock give a glad cry, from the top of the mountains let them make a sound of joy.
12 Man möge Jehova Ehre geben und seinen Ruhm verkündigen auf den Inseln.
Let them give glory to the Lord, sounding his praise in the sea-lands.
13 Jehova wird ausziehen wie ein Held, wie ein Kriegsmann den Eifer anfachen; er wird einen Schlachtruf, ja, ein gellendes Kriegsgeschrei erheben, sich als Held beweisen gegen seine Feinde.
The Lord will go out as a man of war, he will be moved to wrath like a fighting-man: his voice will be strong, he will give a loud cry; he will go against his attackers like a man of war.
14 Von lange her [Eig. Ewig lang] habe ich geschwiegen, war still, habe an mich gehalten. Gleich einer Gebärenden will ich tief aufatmen, schnauben und schnaufen zumal.
I have long been quiet, I have kept myself in and done nothing: now I will make sounds of pain like a woman in childbirth, breathing hard and quickly.
15 Ich will Berge und Hügel öde machen und all ihr Kraut vertrocknen lassen; und ich will Ströme zu Inseln machen; und Seen trocken legen.
I will make waste mountains and hills, drying up all their plants; and I will make rivers dry, and pools dry land.
16 Und ich will die Blinden auf einem Wege führen, den sie nicht kennen; auf Steigen, die sie nicht kennen, will ich sie schreiten lassen; die Finsternis vor ihnen will ich zum Lichte machen, und das Höckerichte zur Ebene. Das sind die Dinge, die ich tun und nicht unterlassen werde.
And I will take the blind by a way of which they had no knowledge, guiding them by roads strange to them: I will make the dark places light before them, and the rough places level. These things will I do and will not give them up.
17 Die auf das geschnitzte Bild vertrauen, die zu dem gegossenen Bilde sagen: Du bist unser Gott! werden zurückweichen, werden gänzlich beschämt werden.
They will be turned back and be greatly shamed who put their hope in pictured images, who say to metal images, You are our gods.
18 Höret, ihr Tauben! und ihr Blinden, schauet her, um zu sehen!
Give ear, you whose ears are shut; and let your eyes be open, you blind, so that you may see.
19 Wer ist blind, als nur mein Knecht? und taub wie mein Bote, den ich sende? Wer ist blind wie der Vertraute, und blind wie der Knecht Jehovas?
Who is blind, but my servant? who has his ears stopped, but he whom I send? who is blind as my true one, or who has his ears shut like the Lord's servant?
20 Du hast vieles gesehen, aber du beachtest es nicht; bei offenen Ohren hört er nicht.
Seeing much, but keeping nothing in mind; his ears are open, but there is no hearing.
21 Jehova gefiel es um seiner Gerechtigkeit willen, das Gesetz groß und herrlich zu machen. [And. üb.: Jehova hatte Gefallen an ihm um seiner Gerechtigkeit willen; er machte das Gesetz groß usw.]
It was the Lord's pleasure, because of his righteousness, to make the teaching great and give it honour.
22 Und doch ist es ein beraubtes und ausgeplündertes Volk; sie sind in Löchern gefesselt allesamt und in Kerkern versteckt; sie sind zur Beute geworden, und kein Erretter ist da, zur Plünderung, und niemand spricht: Gib wieder heraus!
But this is a people whose property has been taken away from them by force; they are all taken in holes, and shut up in prisons: they are made prisoners, and no one makes them free; they are taken by force and no one says, Give them back.
23 Wer unter euch will dieses zu Ohren nehmen, will aufmerken und in Zukunft hören?
Who is there among you who will give ear to this? who will give attention to it for the time to come?
24 Wer hat Jakob der Plünderung hingegeben und Israel den Räubern? Nicht Jehova, gegen den wir gesündigt haben? Und sie wollten nicht auf seinen Wegen wandeln, und hörten nicht auf sein Gesetz.
Who gave up Jacob to those who took away his goods, and Israel to his attackers? Did not the Lord? he against whom they did wrong, and in whose ways they would not go, turning away from his teaching.
25 Da hat er die Glut seines Zornes [O. in Glut seinen Zorn; wie Kap. 66,15] und die Gewalt des Krieges über ihn ausgegossen; und diese hat ihn ringsum angezündet, aber er ist nicht zur Erkenntnis gekommen; und sie hat ihn in Brand gesteckt, aber er nahm es nicht zu Herzen.
For this reason he let loose on him the heat of his wrath, and his strength was like a flame; and it put fire round about him, but he did not see it; he was burned, but did not take it to heart.
