Prediger 9
1 Denn dies alles habe ich mir zu Herzen genommen [O. in Erwägung gezogen, ] und zwar um dies alles zu prüfen [O. und ich suchte dies alles mir klar zu machen]: daß die Gerechten und die Weisen und ihre Werke in der Hand Gottes sind; weder Liebe noch Haß kennt der Mensch im voraus: alles ist vor ihnen [d. h. in der Zukunft verborgen.]
For all this did I reflect over in my heart and to explain all this, that the righteous, and the wise, and their services, are in the hand of God: that man knoweth neither love nor hatred; it is all [ordained] before them;
2 Alles ist gleicherweise für alle [W. Alles ist so wie allen]: einerlei Geschick [Eig. Begegnis, zufall; so auch V. 3] für den Gerechten und den Gesetzlosen, für den Guten und den Reinen und den Unreinen, und für den, der opfert, und den, der nicht opfert: wie der Gute, so der Sünder, der, welcher schwört, wie der, welcher den Eid fürchtet.
Every thing as it is to happen to all; there is but one occurrence for the righteous, and for the wicked; for the good and for the clean, and for the unclean; and for him that sacrificeth, and for him that sacrificeth not; as is the good, so is the sinner; he that sweareth, as he that feareth an oath.
3 Das ist ein Übel in allem, was unter der Sonne geschieht, daß einerlei Geschick allen zuteil wird; und auch ist das Herz der Menschenkinder voll Bosheit, und Narrheit [Eig. Tollheit] ist in ihrem Herzen während ihres Lebens; und danach [W. nach ihm, d. h. wenn es mit dem Menschen aus ist] gehts zu den Toten.
This is an evil among all things that are done under the sun, that there is one occurrence for all, and that also the heart of the sons of men is full of evil, and that madness is in their heart while they live, and after this they go to the dead.
4 Denn für einen jeden, der all den Lebenden zugesellt wird, gibt es Hoffnung; denn selbst ein lebendiger Hund ist besser daran als ein toter Löwe.
For whoever is yet united with all the living hath still hope; for a living dog fareth better than a dead lion.
5 Denn die Lebenden wissen, daß sie sterben werden; die Toten aber wissen gar nichts, und sie haben keinen Lohn mehr, denn ihr Gedächtnis ist vergessen.
For the living know that they will die; but the dead know not the least; nor have they longer any reward; for their memory is forgotten.
6 Sowohl ihre Liebe als auch ihr Haß und ihr Eifern sind längst verschwunden; und sie haben ewiglich kein Teil mehr an allem, was unter der Sonne geschieht.
Also their love, and their hatred, and their envy, are now already lost; and they will have never more a portion in all that is done under the sun.
7 Geh, iß dein Brot mit Freude und trinke deinen Wein mit frohem Herzen; denn längst hat Gott Wohlgefallen an deinem Tun.
Go, eat with joy thy bread, and drink with a merry heart thy wine, if God have already received thy works in favor.
8 Deine Kleider seien weiß zu aller Zeit, und das Öl mangle nicht auf deinem Haupte!
At all times let thy garments be white, and let oil not be wanting on thy head.
9 Genieße das Leben mit dem Weibe, das du liebst, alle Tage deines eitlen Lebens, welches er dir unter der Sonne gegeben hat, alle deine eitlen Tage hindurch; denn das ist dein Teil am Leben und an deiner Mühe, womit du dich abmühst unter der Sonne.
Enjoy life with the wife whom thou lovest all the days of the life of thy vanity, which God hath given thee under the sun, [yea, ] all the days of thy vanity; for this is thy portion in this life, and in thy toil with which thou toilest under the sun.
10 Alles, was du zu tun vermagst [Eig. was deine Hand erreichen mag] mit deiner Kraft, das tue [And. üb. mit veränd. hebr. Interpunktion: Alles was deine Hand zu tun findet, das tue mit deiner Kraft; ] denn es gibt weder Tun noch Überlegung noch Kenntnis noch Weisheit im Scheol, wohin du gehst. (Sheol h7585)
Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do with thy might, that do; for there is no work, nor experience, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the nether world, whither thou goest.— (Sheol h7585)
11 Ich wandte mich und sah [O. Wiederum sah ich] unter der Sonne, daß nicht den Schnellen der Lauf gehört, und nicht den Helden der Krieg, und auch nicht den Weisen das Brot, und auch nicht den Verständigen der Reichtum, und auch nicht den Kenntnisreichen die Gunst; denn Zeit und Schicksal trifft sie alle.
I turned about, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the mighty; and that also the wise have no bread, nor yet the men of understanding riches, nor yet men of knowledge favor; but time and fate will overtake them all.
12 Denn der Mensch weiß auch seine Zeit nicht; gleich den Fischen, welche gefangen werden im verderblichen Netze, und gleich den Vögeln, welche in der Schlinge gefangen werden: gleich diesen werden die Menschenkinder verstrickt zur Zeit des Unglücks, wenn dieses sie plötzlich überfällt.
For man also knoweth not his time, like the fishes that are caught in an evil net, and like the birds that are caught in the snare: like these are the sons of men ensnared at an evil time, when it falleth upon them suddenly.
13 Auch dieses habe ich als Weisheit unter der Sonne gesehen, und sie kam mir groß vor:
Also in this manner have I seen wisdom under the sun, and it seemed great unto me:
14 Es war eine kleine Stadt, und wenig Männer waren darin; und wider sie kam ein großer König, und er umzingelte sie und baute große Belagerungswerke wider sie.
There was a little city, and the men therein were few; and there came against it a great king, who enclosed it, and built around it great works of siege;
15 Und es fand sich darin ein [Eig. er fand darin einen usw.] armer weiser Mann, der die Stadt durch seine Weisheit rettete; aber kein Mensch gedachte dieses armen Mannes.
But there was found in it a poor wise man, and he delivered the city by his wisdom; yet no man had thought of that same poor man.
16 Da sprach ich: Weisheit ist besser als Kraft; aber die Weisheit des Armen wird verachtet, und seine Worte werden nicht gehört. -
Then said I, Wisdom is better than might: although the poor man's wisdom is held in contempt, and his words are not heard.
17 Worte der Weisen, in Ruhe gehört, sind mehr wert als das Geschrei des Herrschers unter den Toren. -
The words of wise men heard in quiet are better than the cry of him that ruleth among fools.
18 Weisheit ist besser als Kriegsgeräte; aber ein Sünder vernichtet viel Gutes. -
Wisdom is better than weapons of war; but one sinner causes much good to be lost.
