1 Und nach dem Tode Ahabs fielen die Moabiter von Israel ab. -
And Moab transgresseth against Israel after the death of Ahab,
2 Und Ahasja fiel durch das Gitter an seinem Obergemach zu Samaria und wurde krank. Und er sandte Boten und sprach zu ihnen: Gehet hin, befraget Baal-Sebub, den Gott von Ekron, ob ich von dieser Krankheit genesen werde.
and Ahaziah falleth through the lattice in his upper chamber that [is] in Samaria, and is sick, and sendeth messengers, and saith unto them, 'Go ye, inquire of Baal-Zebub god of Ekron if I recover from this sickness.'
3 Und der Engel Jehovas redete zu Elia, dem Tisbiter: Mache dich auf, gehe hinauf, den Boten des Königs von Samaria entgegen, und sprich zu ihnen: Ist es, weil kein Gott in Israel ist, daß ihr hingehet, um Baal-Sebub, den Gott von Ekron, zu befragen?
And a messenger of Jehovah hath spoken unto Elijah the Tishbite, 'Rise, go up to meet the messengers of the king of Samaria, and speak unto them, Is it because there is not a God in Israel — ye are going to inquire of Baal Zebub god of Ekron?
4 Und darum spricht Jehova also: Von dem Bette, das du bestiegen hast, sollt du nicht herabkommen, sondern du wirst gewißlich sterben. Und Elia ging hin.
and therefore, thus said Jehovah, The bed whither thou hast gone up, thou dost not come down from it, for thou dost certainly die;' and Elijah goeth on.
5 Und die Boten kehrten zu ihm zurück; und er sprach zu ihnen: Warum seid ihr denn zurückgekehrt?
And the messengers turn back unto him, and he saith unto them, 'What [is] this — ye have turned back!'
6 Und sie sprachen zu ihm: Ein Mann kam herauf, uns entgegen, und sprach zu uns: Gehet, kehret zurück zu dem König, der euch gesandt hat, und redet zu ihm: So spricht Jehova: Ist es, weil kein Gott in Israel ist, daß du hinsendest, um Baal-Sebub, den Gott von Ekron, zu befragen? Darum sollst du von dem Bette, das du bestiegen hast, nicht herabkommen, sondern du wirst gewißlich sterben.
And they say unto him, 'A man hath come up to meet us, and saith unto us, Go, turn back unto the king who sent you, and ye have said unto him, Thus said Jehovah, Is it because there is not a God in Israel — thou art sending to inquire of Baal-Zebub god of Ekron? therefore, the bed whither thou hast gone up, thou dost not come down from it, for thou dost certainly die.'
7 Da sagte er zu ihnen: Was für ein Mann war es, [O. Wie sah der Mann aus] der euch entgegen heraufkam und diese Worte zu euch redete?
And he saith unto them, 'What [is] the fashion of the man who hath come up to meet you, and speaketh unto you these words?'
8 Und sie sprachen zu ihm: Es war ein Mann in härenem Gewande und an seinen Lenden gegürtet mit einem ledernen Gürtel. Und er sprach: Es ist Elia, der Tisbiter.
And they say unto him, 'A man — hairy, and a girdle of skin girt about his loins;' and he saith, 'He [is] Elijah the Tishbite.'
9 Da sandte er zu ihm einen Obersten über fünfzig und seine Fünfzig. Und er ging zu ihm hinauf, und siehe, er saß auf dem Gipfel des Berges; und er sprach zu ihm: Mann Gottes! der König sagt: Komm herab.
And he sendeth unto him a head of fifty and his fifty, and he goeth up unto him (and lo, he is sitting on the top of the hill), and he speaketh unto him, 'O man of God, the king hath spoken, Come down.'
10 Aber Elia antwortete und sprach zu dem Obersten über fünfzig: Und wenn ich ein Mann Gottes bin, so fahre Feuer vom Himmel herab und fresse dich und deine Fünfzig! Da fuhr Feuer vom Himmel herab und fraß ihn und seine Fünfzig.
And Elijah answereth and speaketh unto the head of the fifty, 'And if I [am] a man of God, fire doth come down from the heavens, and consume thee and thy fifty;' and fire cometh down from the heavens, and consumeth him and his fifty.
11 Und er sandte wiederum zu ihm einen anderen Obersten über fünfzig und seine Fünfzig. Und er hob an und sprach zu ihm: Mann Gottes! so spricht der König: Komm eilends herab.
And he turneth and sendeth unto him another head of fifty and his fifty, and he answereth and speaketh unto him, 'O man of God, thus said the king, Haste, come down.'
12 Aber Elia antwortete und sprach zu ihnen: Wenn ich ein Mann Gottes bin, so fahre Feuer vom Himmel herab und fresse dich und deine Fünfzig! Da fuhr Feuer Gottes vom Himmel herab und fraß ihn und seine Fünfzig.
And Elijah answereth and speaketh unto them, 'If I [am] a man of God, fire doth come down from the heavens, and consume thee and thy fifty;' and fire of God cometh down from the heavens, and consumeth him and his fifty.
13 Und er sandte wiederum einen dritten Obersten über fünfzig [Eig. einen Obersten über dritte Fünfzig] und seine Fünfzig. Und der dritte Oberste über fünfzig ging hinauf und kam und beugte seine Knie vor Elia, und er flehte ihn an und sprach zu ihm: Mann Gottes! möge doch mein Leben und das Leben deiner Knechte, dieser Fünfzig, teuer sein in deinen Augen!
And he turneth and sendeth a third head of fifty and his fifty, and the third head of fifty goeth up, and cometh in, and boweth on his knees over-against Elijah, and maketh supplication unto him, and speaketh unto him, 'O man of God, let be precious, I pray thee, my soul and the soul of thy servants — these fifty — in thine eyes.
14 Siehe, Feuer ist vom Himmel herabgefahren und hat die beiden vorigen Obersten über fünfzig und ihre Fünfzig gefressen; nun aber möge mein Leben teuer sein in deinen Augen!
Lo, come down hath fire from the heavens, and consumeth the two heads of the former fifties and their fifties; and, now, let my soul be precious in thine eyes.'
15 Da sprach der Engel Jehovas zu Elia: Gehe mit ihm hinab, fürchte dich nicht vor ihm! Und er stand auf und ging mit ihm zu dem König hinab.
And a messenger of Jehovah speaketh unto Elijah, 'Go down with him, be not afraid of him;' and he riseth and goeth down with him unto the king,
16 Und er redete zu ihm: So spricht Jehova: Weil du Boten gesandt hast, um Baal-Sebub, den Gott von Ekron, zu befragen [ist es, weil kein Gott in Israel ist, um sein Wort zu befragen?], darum sollst du von dem Bette, das du bestiegen hast, nicht herabkommen, sondern du wirst gewißlich sterben.
and speaketh unto him, 'Thus said Jehovah, Because that thou hast sent messengers to inquire of Baal-Zebub god of Ekron — is it because there is not a God in Israel to inquire of His word? therefore, the bed whither thou hast gone up — thou dost not come down from it, for thou dost certainly die.'
17 Und er starb nach dem Worte Jehovas, das Elia geredet hatte. Und Joram [der Bruder Ahasjas] ward König an seiner Statt im zweiten Jahre Jorams, des Sohnes Josaphats, [d. h. im zweiten Jahre seiner Mitregentschaft mit seinem Vater Josaphat; vergl. 1. Kön. 22,42; 2. Kön. 3,1;8,16] des Königs von Juda; denn er hatte keinen Sohn.
And he dieth, according to the word of Jehovah that Elijah spake, and Jehoram reigneth in his stead, in the second year of Jehoram son of Jehoshaphat king of Judah, for he had no son.
18 Und das Übrige der Geschichte Ahasjas, was er getan hat, ist das nicht geschrieben in dem Buche der Chronika der Könige von Israel?
And the rest of the matters of Ahaziah that he did, are they not written on the book of the Chronicles of the kings of Israel?
