1 Und [2. Chron. 29] es geschah im dritten Jahre Hoseas, des Sohnes Elas, des Königs von Israel, da wurde Hiskia König, der Sohn Ahas, des Königs von Juda.
And it came to pass, in the third year of Hoshea son of Elah king of Israel, that Hezekiah son of Ahaz king of Judah began to reign.
2 Jahre war er alt, als er König wurde, und er regierte 29 Jahre zu Jerusalem; und der Name seiner Mutter war Abi, die Tochter Sekarjas.
Twenty-five years old, was he when he began to reign, and, twenty-nine years, reigned he in Jerusalem, —and, his mother’s name, was Abi, daughter of Zachariah.
3 Und er tat, was recht war in den Augen Jehovas, nach allem, was sein Vater David getan hatte.
And he did that which was right in the eyes of Yahweh, —according to all that, David his father, did.
4 Er tat die Höhen hinweg und zerschlug die Bildsäulen, und rottete die Aschera aus, und zertrümmerte die eherne Schlange, welche Mose gemacht hatte; denn bis zu jenen Tagen hatten die Kinder Israel ihr geräuchert, und man nannte sie Nechustan. [d. h. Ehernes]
He, removed the high places, and brake in pieces the pillars, and cut down the Sacred Stem, —and beat in pieces the serpent of bronze that, Moses, had made, because, until those days, had the sons of Israel been burning incense thereunto, so he called it Nehushtan.
5 Er vertraute auf Jehova, den Gott Israels; und nach ihm ist seinesgleichen nicht gewesen unter allen Königen von Juda, noch unter denen, die vor ihm waren.
In Yahweh, God of Israel, did he trust, —so that, after him, was none like him, among all the kings of Judah, nor that were before him;
6 Und er hing Jehova an, er wich nicht von ihm ab; [Eig. von hinter ihm her] und er beobachtete seine Gebote, die Jehova dem Mose geboten hatte.
and he did cleave unto Yahweh, he turned not away from following him, —but kept his commandments, which, Yahweh, commanded, Moses.
7 Und Jehova war mit ihm; überall, wohin er zog, gelang es ihm. Und er empörte sich gegen den König von Assyrien und diente ihm nicht.
So Yahweh was with him, whithersoever he went forth, he prospered, —and he rebelled against the king of Assyria, and served him not.
8 Er schlug die Philister bis Gasa und verheerte dessen Gebiet, vom Turme der Wächter an bis zu der festen Stadt.
He, smote the Philistines, as far as Gazah, and her boundaries, —from the watchmen’s tower even to the fortified city.
9 Und es geschah im vierten Jahre des Königs Hiskia, das war das siebte Jahr Hoseas, des Sohnes Elas, des Königs von Israel, da zog Salmaneser, der König von Assyrien, wider Samaria herauf und belagerte es.
And it came to pass, in the fourth year of King Hezekiah—the same, was the seventh year of Hosea son of Elah king of Israel, that Shalmaneser king of Assyria came up against Samaria, and laid siege against it;
10 Und er nahm es ein am Ende von drei Jahren; im sechsten Jahre Hiskias, das war das neunte Jahr Hoseas, des Königs von Israel, wurde Samaria eingenommen.
and he captured it at the end of three years, in the sixth year of Hezekiah, —the same, is the ninth year of Hoshea king of Israel, was Samaria captured.
11 Und der König von Assyrien führte Israel nach Assyrien hinweg; und er versetzte sie nach Halach und an den Habor, den Strom Gosans, und in die Städte Mediens:
So the king of Assyria drave away Israel to Assyria, —and settled them in Halah, and in Habor, by the river of Gozan, and the mountains of Media:
12 darum daß sie auf die Stimme Jehovas, ihres Gottes, nicht gehört, und seinen Bund übertreten hatten-alles, was Mose, der Knecht Jehovas, geboten hat-und weil sie nicht gehört und es nicht getan hatten.
because they hearkened not unto the voice of Yahweh their God, but transgressed his covenant, all that Moses the servant of Yahweh commanded, —they neither hearkened nor performed.
13 Und [2. Chron. 32; Jes. 36] im vierzehnten Jahre des Königs Hiskia zog Sanherib, der König von Assyrien, herauf wider alle festen Städte Judas und nahm sie ein.
And, in the fourteenth year of King Hezekiah, came up Sennacherib king of Assyria, against all the fortified cities of Judah, and took them.
14 Da sandte Hiskia, der König von Juda, an den König von Assyrien nach Lachis und ließ ihm sagen: Ich habe gefehlt, kehre um von mir; was du mir auferlegen wirst, will ich tragen. Und der König von Assyrien legte Hiskia, dem König von Juda, dreihundert Talente Silber und dreißig Talente Gold auf.
Then sent Hezekiah king of Judah unto the king of Assyria, to Lachish, saying—I have sinned, Return from me, What thou shalt lay upon me, I will bear. So the king of Assyria appointed unto Hezekiah king of Judah, three hundred talents of silver, and thirty talents of gold.
15 Und Hiskia gab alles Silber, das in dem Hause Jehovas und in den Schätzen des Königshauses sich vorfand.
And Hezekiah delivered up all the silver that was found in the house of Yahweh, and in the treasuries of the house of the king.
16 Zu selbiger Zeit brach Hiskia von den Türflügeln des Tempels Jehovas und den Pfosten, die Hiskia, der König von Juda, überzogen hatte, das Gold ab und gab es [Eig. brach die Türflügel usw. ab und gab sie] dem König von Assyrien.
At that time, Hezekiah cut off the doors of the temple of Yahweh, and the columns, which Hezekiah king of Judah had overlaid, —and gave them unto the king of Assyria.
17 Aber der König von Assyrien sandte von Lachis aus den Tartan und den Rabsaris und den Rabsake [Tartan: Feldherr; Rabsaris: Oberkämmerer; Rabschake: Obermundschenk] mit einem großen Heere wider den König Hiskia nach Jerusalem. Und sie zogen herauf und kamen nach Jerusalem: sie zogen herauf und kamen und hielten an der Wasserleitung des oberen Teiches, welcher [O. welche] an der Straße des Walkerfeldes liegt.
And the king of Assyria sent Tartan and Rab-saris and Rab-shakeh, from Lachish unto King Hezekiah, with a heavy force to Jerusalem, —so they came up and drew near to Jerusalem, and took their stand by the upper channel of the pool, which is in the highway of the fuller’s field.
18 Und sie riefen dem König. Da gingen zu ihnen hinaus Eljakim, der Sohn Hilkijas, der über das Haus war, und Schebna, der Schreiber, und Joach, der Sohn Asaphs, der Geschichtsschreiber. [S. die Anm. zu 2. Sam. 8,16]
Then called they for the king, and there went out unto them Eliakim son of Hilkiah, who was over the household, —and Shebnah, the scribe, and Joah son of Asaph, the recorder.
19 Und der Rabsake sprach zu ihnen: Saget doch zu Hiskia: So spricht der große König, der König von Assyrien: Was ist das für ein Vertrauen, womit du vertraust?
And Rab-shakeh said unto them—Pray you, say unto Hezekiah, —Thus, saith the great king, the king of Assyria, What trust is this wherewith thou dost trust?
20 Du sagst-doch nur ein Wort der Lippen ist es: -Da ist Rat und Macht zum Kriege. Nun, auf wen vertraust du, daß du dich wider mich empört hast?
Thou hast said—they are only words of the lips!—Counsel and might [have I] for the war. Now, in whom dost thou trust, that thou hast rebelled against me?
21 Nun, siehe, du vertraust auf jenen geknickten Rohrstab, auf Ägypten, der, wenn jemand sich auf ihn stützt, ihm in die Hand fährt und sie durchbohrt. So ist der Pharao, der König von Ägypten, allen, die auf ihn vertrauen.
Now, lo! thou dost trust thyself on the support of this bruised cane, on Egypt, whereon, if a man lean, it will enter his hand and lay it open, —so, is Pharaoh king of Egypt, to all who trust upon him.
22 Und wenn ihr zu mir sprechet: Auf Jehova, unseren Gott, vertrauen wir! -ist er es nicht, dessen Höhen und dessen Altäre Hiskia hinweggetan, da er zu Juda und zu Jerusalem gesagt hat: Vor diesem Altar sollt ihr anbeten in Jerusalem? -
But, if ye should say unto me, In Yahweh our God, do we trust, Then is that not he whose high places and whose altars Hezekiah hath removed, and said unto Judah, and unto Jerusalem—Before this altar, shall ye bow down, in Jerusalem?
23 Und nun, laß dich doch ein [d. h. gehe eine Wette ein] mit meinem Herrn, dem König von Assyrien: Ich will dir zweitausend Rosse geben, wenn du dir Reiter darauf setzen kannst.
Now, therefore, pledge thyself, I pray thee, with my lord, the king of Assyria, —that I supply thee with two thousand horses, if thou, on thy part, be able to set riders upon them.
24 Und wie wolltest du einen einzigen Befehlshaber von den geringsten Knechten meines Herrn zurücktreiben? Aber du vertraust auf Ägypten wegen Wagen und wegen Reiter.
How then wilt thou turn back the face of one pasha of the least of my lord’s servants? Or hast thou, on thy part, trusted to Egypt for chariots and for horsemen?
25 Nun, bin ich etwa ohne Jehova wider diesen Ort heraufgezogen, um ihn zu verheeren? Jehova hat zu mir gesagt: Ziehe hinauf wider dieses Land und verheere es!
Now, is it, without Yahweh, that I have come up against this place, to destroy it? Yahweh himself, said unto me, Go thou up against this land, and destroy it.
26 Und Eljakim, der Sohn Hilkijas, und Schebna und Joach sprachen zu dem Rabsake: Rede doch zu deinen Knechten auf aramäisch, denn wir verstehen es; und rede nicht auf jüdisch mit uns vor den Ohren des Volkes, das auf der Mauer ist.
Then said Eliakim son of Hilkiah, and Shebnah, and Joah, unto Rab-shakeh: Speak, we pray thee, unto thy servants in the, Syrian, language, for, we, can, understand, it, —and do not speak with us in, the Jews’, language, in the ears of the people who are upon the wall.
27 Und der Rabsake sprach zu ihnen: Hat mich mein Herr zu deinem Herrn und zu dir gesandt, um diese Worte zu reden? Nicht zu den Männern, die auf der Mauer sitzen, um mit euch ihren Kot zu essen und ihren Harn zu trinken?
But Rab-shakeh said unto them—Is it, concerning thy lord, and concerning thee, that my lord hath sent me to speak these things? Is it not concerning the men who are tarrying upon the wall, that they may eat their own dung and drink their own water with you?
28 Und der Rabsake stand und rief mit lauter Stimme auf jüdisch und redete und sprach: Höret das Wort des großen Königs, des Königs von Assyrien!
So then Rab-shakeh took his stand, and cried out with a loud voice, in, the Jews’, language, —and spake, and said, Hear ye the message of the great king, the king of Assyria: —
29 So spricht der König: Daß euch Hiskia nicht täusche; denn er wird euch nicht von seiner Hand zu erretten vermögen.
Thus, saith the king: Let not Hezekiah deceive you, for he shall not he able to deliver you out of his hand;
30 Und das Hiskia euch nicht auf Jehova vertröste, indem er spricht: Jehova wird uns gewißlich erretten, und diese Stadt wird nicht in die Hand des Königs von Assyrien gegeben werden.
Neither let Hezekiah cause you to trust in Yahweh, saying, Yahweh, will, certainly deliver, us, —this city, therefore, shall not be given over into the hand of the king of Assyria.
31 Höret nicht auf Hiskia! denn also spricht der König von Assyrien: Machet Frieden mit mir und kommet zu mir heraus, so sollt ihr ein jeder von seinem Weinstock und ein jeder von seinem Feigenbaum essen, und ein jeder das Wasser seines Brunnens [Eig. seiner Cisterne] trinken,
Do not hearken unto Hezekiah, —for, thus, saith the king of Assyria, Deal with me thankfully, and come out unto me, then shall ye eat—every one of his own vine, and every one of his own fig-tree, and drink every one the waters of his own cistern;
32 bis ich komme und euch in ein Land hole wie euer Land, ein Land von Korn und Most, ein Land von Brot und Weinbergen, ein Land von Olivenbäumen und Honig, daß ihr lebet und nicht sterbet. Aber höret nicht auf Hiskia! denn er verführt euch, [And.: wenn er euch verführt] indem er spricht: Jehova wird uns erretten!
Until I come and take you, into a land like your own land—A land of corn and new wine, a land of bread and vineyards, a land of oil olive and honey, so shall ye live, and not die, —But do not hearken unto Hezekiah, for he would persuade you, saying, Yahweh, will deliver us!
33 Haben denn irgend die Götter der Nationen ein jeder sein Land von der Hand des Königs von Assyrien errettet?
Have, the gods of the nations, at all delivered, any one of them, his country, out of the hand of the king of Assyria?
34 Wo sind die Götter von Hamath und Arpad? Wo die Götter von Sepharwaim, von Hena und Iwa? Haben sie [d. h. die Götter von Samaria] Samaria von meiner Hand errettet?
Where are the gods of Hamath, and Arpad? Where are the gods of Sepharvaim, Hena and Ivvah? Yea, did they deliver Samaria out of my hand?
35 Welche sind es unter allen Göttern der Länder, die ihr Land von meiner Hand errettet haben, daß Jehova Jerusalem von meiner Hand erretten sollte?
Who are they, among all the gods of the countries, that have delivered their country, out of my hand, —that, Yahweh, should deliver, Jerusalem, out of my hand?
36 Und das Volk schwieg still und antwortete ihm kein Wort; denn es war das Gebot des Königs, der gesagt hatte: Ihr sollt nicht antworten! -
But the people held their peace, and answered him not a word, —for, the command of the king, it was, saying—Ye must not answer him.
37 Und Eljakim, der Sohn Hilkijas, der über das Haus war, und Schebna, der Schreiber, und Joach, der Sohn Asaphs, der Geschichtsschreiber, kamen zu Hiskia mit zerrissenen Kleidern und berichteten ihm die Worte des Rabsake.
Then came in Eliakim son of Hilkiah who was over the household, and Shebna the scribe, and Joah son of Asaph the recorder, unto Hezekiah, with rent clothes, —and they told him the words of Rab-shakeh.
