2 Chronik 21

1 Und Josaphat legte sich zu seinen Vätern, und er wurde bei seinen Vätern begraben in der Stadt Davids. Und [2. Kön. 8,16] Joram, sein Sohn, ward König an seiner Statt.

And Josaphat slept with his fathers, and was buried with them in the city of David: and Joram his son reigned in his stead.

2 Und er hatte Brüder, Söhne Josaphats: Asarja und Jechiel und Sekarja und Asarja und Michael und Schephatja; alle diese waren Söhne Josaphats, des Königs von Israel. [d. h. Israel im allgemeinen Sinne; vergl. v 4; Kap. 12,6;28,19]

And he had brethren the sons of Josaphat, Azarias, and Jahiel, and Zacharias, and Azaria, and Michael, and Saphatias, all these were the sons of Josaphat king of Juda.

3 Und ihr Vater gab ihnen viele Geschenke an Silber und an Gold und an Kostbarkeiten, nebst festen Städten in Juda; aber das Königreich gab er Joram, denn er war der Erstgeborene.

And their father gave them great gifts of silver, and of gold, and pensions, with strong cities in Juda: but the kingdom he gave to Joram, because he was the eldest.

4 Und als Joram über das Königreich seines Vaters aufgestanden und erstarkt war, da tötete er alle seine Brüder und auch einige Oberste von Israel mit dem Schwerte.

So Joram rose up over the kingdom of his father: and when he had established himself, he slew all his brethren with the sword, and some of the princes of Israel.

5 Zweiunddreißig Jahre war Joram alt, als er König wurde, und er regierte acht Jahre zu Jerusalem.

Joram was two and thirty years old when he began to reign: and he reigned eight years in Jerusalem.

6 Und er wandelte auf dem Wege der Könige von Israel, wie das Haus Ahabs getan hatte, denn er hatte eine Tochter Ahabs zum Weibe; und er tat, was böse war in den Augen Jehovas.

And he walked in the ways of the kings of Israel, as the house of Achab had done: for his wife was a daughter of Achab, and he did evil in the sight of the Lord.

7 Aber Jehova wollte das Haus Davids nicht verderben, um des Bundes willen, den er mit David gemacht, und so wie er gesagt hatte, daß er ihm und seinen Söhnen eine Leuchte geben wolle alle Tage.

But the Lord would not destroy the house of David: because of the covenant which he had made with him: and because he had promised to give a lamp to him, and to his sons for ever.

8 In seinen Tagen fielen die Edomiter von der Botmäßigkeit Judas ab und setzten einen König über sich.

In those days Edom revolted, from being subject to Juda, and made themselves a king.

9 Da zog Joram hinüber mit seinen Obersten, und alle Wagen mit ihm. Und es geschah, als er sich des Nachts aufmachte, da schlug er die Edomiter, welche ihn und die Obersten der Wagen umringt hatten.

And Joram went over with his princes, and all his cavalry with him, and rose in the night, and defeated the Edomites who had surrounded him, and all the captains of his cavalry.

10 So fielen die Edomiter von der Botmäßigkeit Judas ab bis auf diesen Tag. Damals, zu derselben Zeit, fiel auch Libna von seiner Botmäßigkeit ab; denn er hatte Jehova, den Gott seiner Väter, verlassen.

However Edom revolted, from being under the dominion of Juda unto this day: at that time Lobna also revolted, from being under his hand. For he had forsaken the Lord the God of his fathers:

11 Auch er machte Höhen auf den Bergen Judas, und er verleitete die Bewohner von Jerusalem, Hurerei zu treiben, und verführte Juda dazu.

Moreover he built also high places in the cities of Juda, and he made the inhabitants of Jerusalem to commit fornication, and Juda to transgress.

12 Da gelangte eine Schrift von Elia, dem Propheten, an ihn, welche lautete: So spricht Jehova, der Gott deines Vaters David: Darum, daß du nicht auf den Wegen deines Vaters Josaphat und auf den Wegen Asas, des Königs von Juda, gewandelt hast,

And there was a letter brought him from Elias the prophet, in which it was written: Thus saith the Lord the God of David thy father: Because thou hast not walked in the ways of Josaphat thy father nor in the ways of Asa king of Juda,

13 sondern auf dem Wege der Könige von Israel gewandelt und Juda und die Bewohner von Jerusalem verleitet hast, Hurerei zu treiben, nach den Hurereien des Hauses Ahabs, und auch deine Brüder, das Haus deines Vaters, ermordet hast, die besser waren als du:

But hast walked in the ways of the kings of Israel, and hast made Juda and the inhabitants of Jerusalem to commit fornication, imitating the fornication of the house of Achab, moreover also thou hast killed thy brethren, the house of thy father, better men than thyself,

14 siehe, so wird Jehova dein Volk und deine Söhne und deine Weiber und alle deine Habe plagen mit einer großen Plage;

Behold the Lord will strike thee with a great plague, with all thy people, and thy children, and thy wives, and all thy substance.

15 du aber wirst schwer erkranken an einer Krankheit deiner [W. du aber wirst in vielen [od. großen] Krankheiten sein, in Erkrankung deiner usw.] Eingeweide, bis deine Eingeweide infolge der Krankheit heraustreten werden Tag für Tag. [O. von Zeit zu Zeit; so auch v 19]

And thou shalt be sick of a very grievous disease of thy bowels, till thy vital parts come out by little and little every day.

16 Und Jehova erweckte wider Joram den Geist der Philister und der Araber, die zur Seite der Kuschiter wohnen.

And the Lord stirred up against Joram the spirit of the Philistines, and of the Arabians, who border on the Ethiopians.

17 Und sie zogen wider Juda herauf und brachen ein und führten alle Habe weg, die sich im Hause des Königs vorfand, und auch seine Söhne und seine Weiber; und es blieb ihm kein Sohn übrig als nur Joahas, der jüngste seiner Söhne.

And they came up into the land of Juda, and wasted it, and they carried away all the substance that was found in the king’s house, his sons also, and his wives: so that there was no son left him but Joachaz, who was the youngest.

18 Und nach allem diesem plagte ihn Jehova mit einer unheilbaren Krankheit in seinen Eingeweiden.

And besides all this the Lord struck him with an incurable disease in his bowels.

19 Und es geschah von Tag zu Tag, und zur Zeit, als das Ende von zwei Jahren eintrat, daß seine Eingeweide bei seiner Krankheit heraustraten [O. Und es geschah nach vielen Tagen, und zwar zur Zeit, da traten usw.; ] und er starb unter heftigen Schmerzen. Und sein Volk machte ihm keinen Brand gleich dem Brande seiner Väter.

And as day came after day, and time rolled on, two whole years passed: then after being wasted with a long consumption, so as to void his very bowels, his disease ended with his life. And he died of a most wretched illness, and the people did not make a funeral for him according to the manner of burning, as they had done for his ancestors.

20 Jahre war er alt, als er König wurde, und er regierte acht Jahre zu Jerusalem. Und er ging hin, ohne vermißt zu werden; und man begrub ihn in der Stadt Davids, aber nicht in den Gräbern der Könige.

He was two and thirty years old when he began his reign, and he reigned eight years in Jerusalem. And he walked not rightly, and they buried him in the city of David: but not in the sepulchres of the kings.
