1 Timotheus 4
1 Der Geist aber sagt ausdrücklich, daß in späteren [O. künftigen] Zeiten etliche von dem Glauben abfallen werden, indem sie achten auf betrügerische [O. verführerische] Geister und Lehren von Dämonen,
Now the Spirit expressly states that in later times some will abandon the faith to follow deceitful spirits and the teachings of demons,
2 die in Heuchelei Lügen reden und [O. viell.: durch die Heuchelei von Lügenrednern, die] betreffs des eigenen Gewissens wie mit einem Brenneisen gehärtet [O. an ihrem eigenen Gewissen gebrandmarkt] sind,
influenced by the hypocrisy of liars, whose consciences are seared with a hot iron.
3 verbieten zu heiraten, und gebieten, sich von Speisen zu enthalten, welche Gott geschaffen hat zur Annehmung mit Danksagung für die, welche glauben und die Wahrheit erkennen. [O. anerkennen]
They will prohibit marriage and require abstinence from certain foods that God has created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth.
4 Denn jedes Geschöpf Gottes ist gut und nichts verwerflich, wenn es mit Danksagung genommen wird;
For every creation of God is good, and nothing that is received with thanksgiving should be rejected,
5 denn es wird geheiligt durch Gottes Wort und durch Gebet.
because it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer.
6 Wenn du dieses den Brüdern vorstellst, so wirst du ein guter Diener Christi Jesu sein, auferzogen [O. genährt] durch die Worte des Glaubens und der guten Lehre, welcher du genau gefolgt bist. [O. welche du genau erkannt hast; vergl. 2. Tim. 3,10]
By pointing out these things to the brothers, you will be a good servant of Christ Jesus, nourished by the words of faith and sound instruction that you have followed.
7 Die ungöttlichen und altweibischen Fabeln aber weise ab, übe dich aber zur Gottseligkeit;
But reject irreverent, silly myths. Instead, train yourself for godliness.
8 denn die leibliche Übung ist zu wenigem nütze, die Gottseligkeit aber ist zu allen Dingen nütze, indem sie die Verheißung des Lebens hat, des jetzigen und des zukünftigen.
For physical exercise is of limited value, but godliness is valuable in every way, holding promise for the present life and for the one to come.
9 Das Wort ist gewiß und aller Annahme wert;
This is a trustworthy saying, worthy of full acceptance.
10 denn für dieses arbeiten wir und werden geschmäht, weil wir auf einen lebendigen Gott hoffen, der ein Erhalter aller Menschen ist, besonders der Gläubigen.
To this end we labor and strive, because we have set our hope on the living God, who is the Savior of everyone, and especially of those who believe.
11 Dieses gebiete und lehre.
Command and teach these things.
12 Niemand verachte deine Jugend, sondern sei ein Vorbild der Gläubigen in Wort, in Wandel, in Liebe, in Glauben, in Keuschheit. [O. Reinheit]
Let no one despise your youth, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity.
13 Bis ich komme, halte an mit dem [O. widme dich dem] Vorlesen, mit dem Ermahnen, mit dem Lehren.
Until I come, devote yourself to the public reading of Scripture, to exhortation, and to teaching.
14 Vernachlässige nicht die Gnadengabe in dir, welche dir gegeben worden ist durch Weissagung mit Händeauflegen der Ältestenschaft.
Do not neglect the gift that is in you, which was given you through the prophecy spoken over you at the laying on of the hands of the elders.
15 Bedenke [O. Übe, betreibe] dieses sorgfältig; lebe darin, auf daß deine Fortschritte allen offenbar seien.
Be diligent in these matters and absorbed in them, so that your progress will be evident to all.
16 Habe acht auf dich selbst und auf die Lehre; [O. das Lehren, die Belehrung; wie v 13] beharre in diesen Dingen; [Eig. in ihnen] denn wenn du dieses tust, so wirst du sowohl dich selbst erretten als auch die, welche dich hören.
Pay close attention to your life and to your teaching. Persevere in these things, for by so doing you will save both yourself and those who hear you.
