1 Timotheus 2
1 Ich ermahne nun vor allen Dingen, daß Flehen, Gebete, Fürbitten, Danksagungen getan werden für alle Menschen,
First of all then, I am urging that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be offered regularly for all men;
2 für Könige und alle, die in Hoheit sind, auf daß wir ein ruhiges und stilles Leben führen mögen in aller Gottseligkeit und würdigem Ernst.
for kings and all who are in authority, in order that we may lead a tranquil and peaceful life in all godliness an gravity.
3 Denn dieses ist gut und angenehm vor unserem Heiland-Gott,
For this is good and pleasing in the eyes of our Saviour God,
4 welcher will, daß alle Menschen errettet werden und zur Erkenntnis der Wahrheit kommen.
whose will it is that all men should be saved, and come into full knowledge of the truth.
5 Denn Gott ist einer, und einer Mittler [O. da ist ein Gott und ein Mittler] zwischen Gott und Menschen, der Mensch Christus Jesus,
For God is one; and one is mediator between God and man, the Man Christ Jesus,
6 der sich selbst gab zum Lösegeld für alle, wovon das Zeugnis zu seiner Zeit [W. zu seinen Zeiten] verkündigt werden sollte,
who gave himself as a ransom in behalf of all, to be attested in due time.
7 wozu ich bestellt worden bin als Herold [O. Prediger] und Apostel [ich sage die Wahrheit, ich lüge nicht], ein Lehrer der Nationen, in Glauben und Wahrheit.
It was for this testimony that I myself was appointed a herald and apostle (I am telling the truth, I am not lying), to be a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and truth.
8 Ich will nun, daß die Männer an jedem Orte beten, indem sie heilige [O. reine, fromme] Hände aufheben, ohne Zorn und zweifelnde Überlegung.
My wish, then, is that in every place the men should offer prayer, lifting up holy hands, free from anger and disputation;
9 Desgleichen auch, daß die Weiber in bescheidenem [O. anständigem ehrbarem] Äußeren [O. Auftreten] mit Schamhaftigkeit und Sittsamkeit [O. Besonnenheit, gesundem Sinn; so auch v 15] sich schmücken, nicht mit Haarflechten und Gold oder Perlen oder kostbarer Kleidung,
in like manner also the women. I desire women to clothe themselves in suitable apparel, adorning themselves with reverence and self- restraint; not with hair plaited with gold or pearls, or with expensive clothes,
10 sondern was Weibern geziemt, die sich zur Gottesfurcht bekennen, durch gute Werke.
but (as becomes women proclaiming godliness) with the ornament of good deeds.
11 Ein Weib lerne in der Stille in aller Unterwürfigkeit.
Let a woman learn quietly in entire submission.
12 Ich erlaube aber einem Weibe nicht, zu lehren, noch über den Mann zu herrschen, sondern still zu sein,
I allow no woman to teach, or to exercise authority over a man; but let her keep quiet.
13 denn Adam wurde zuerst gebildet, danach Eva;
It was Adam who was first formed, then Eve.
14 und Adam wurde nicht betrogen, das Weib aber wurde betrogen und fiel in Übertretung.
And it was not Adam who was deceived; but it was the woman who was thoroughly deceived, and who became involved in transgression.
15 Sie wird aber gerettet werden in Kindesnöten, wenn sie bleiben in Glauben und Liebe und Heiligkeit [Eig. Geheiligtsein] mit Sittsamkeit.
Notwithstanding she will be saved by the Child-bearing; (so will they all), if they live in faith and love and holiness, with self- restraint.
