1 Und der König Salomo liebte viele fremde Weiber, und zwar neben der Tochter des Pharao: moabitische, ammonitische, edomitische, zidonische, hethitische,

Now a number of strange women were loved by Solomon, women of the Moabites, Ammonites, Edomites, Zidonians, and Hittites:

2 von den Nationen, von welchen Jehova zu den Kindern Israel gesagt hatte: Ihr sollt nicht unter sie kommen, und sie sollen nicht unter euch kommen; gewiß, sie würden euer Herz neigen ihren Göttern nach! An diesen hing Salomo mit Liebe.

The nations of which the Lord had said to the children of Israel, You are not to take wives from them and they are not to take wives from you; or they will certainly make you go after their gods: to these Solomon was united in love.

3 Und er hatte an Weibern siebenhundert Fürstinnen [d. h. Weiber von fürstlichem Range] und dreihundert Kebsweiber; und seine Weiber neigten sein Herz.

He had seven hundred wives, daughters of kings, and three hundred other wives; and through his wives his heart was turned away.

4 Und es geschah zur Zeit, als Salomo alt war, da neigten seine Weiber sein Herz anderen Göttern nach; und sein Herz war nicht ungeteilt mit Jehova, seinem Gott, wie das Herz seines Vaters David.

For it came about that when Solomon was old, his heart was turned away to other gods by his wives; and his heart was no longer true to the Lord his God as the heart of his father David had been.

5 Und Salomo wandelte der Astoreth nach, der Gottheit der Zidonier, und dem Milkom, dem Greuel der Ammoniter.

For Solomon went after Ashtoreth, the goddess of the Zidonians, and Milcom, the disgusting god of the Ammonites.

6 Und Salomo tat, was böse war in den Augen Jehovas, und er folgte Jehova nicht völlig nach wie sein Vater David.

And Solomon did evil in the eyes of the Lord, not walking in the Lord's ways with all his heart as David his father did.

7 Damals baute Salomo eine Höhe dem Kamos, [Hebr. Kemosch] dem Greuel der Moabiter, auf dem Berge, der vor [d. h. östlich von] Jerusalem liegt, und dem Molech, dem Greuel der Kinder Ammon.

Then Solomon put up a high place for Chemosh, the disgusting god of Moab, in the mountain before Jerusalem, and for Molech, the disgusting god worshipped by the children of Ammon.

8 Und also tat er für alle seine fremden Weiber, die ihren Göttern räucherten und opferten.

And so he did for all his strange wives, who made offerings with burning of perfumes to their gods.

9 Da erzürnte Jehova wider Salomo, weil er sein Herz von Jehova, dem Gott Israels, abgewandt hatte, der ihm zweimal erschienen war

And the Lord was angry with Solomon, because his heart was turned away from the Lord, the God of Israel, who had twice come to him in a vision;

10 und ihm betreffs dieser Sache geboten hatte, nicht anderen Göttern nachzuwandeln; aber er beobachtete nicht, was Jehova geboten hatte.

And had given him orders about this very thing, that he was not to go after other gods; but he did not keep the orders of the Lord.

11 Und Jehova sprach zu Salomo: Darum daß solches bei dir gewesen ist, und du meinen Bund nicht beobachtest hast und meine Satzungen, die ich dir geboten habe, so werde ich dir das Königreich gewißlich entreißen und es deinem Knechte geben.

So the Lord said to Solomon, Because you have done this, and have not kept my agreement and my laws, which I gave you, I will take the kingdom away from you by force and will give it to your servant.

12 Doch in deinen Tagen will ich es nicht tun, um deines Vaters David willen: aus der Hand deines Sohnes werde ich es reißen;

I will not do it in your life-time, because of your father David, but I will take it from your son.

13 nur will ich ihm nicht das ganze Königreich entreißen: einen Stamm will ich deinem Sohne geben, um meines Knechtes David willen und um Jerusalems willen, das ich erwählt habe.

Still I will not take all the kingdom from him; but I will give one tribe to your son, because of my servant David, and because of Jerusalem, the town of my selection.

14 Und Jehova erweckte Salomo einen Widersacher, Hadad, den Edomiter; er war vom königlichen Samen in Edom.

So the Lord sent Hadad the Edomite to make trouble for Solomon: he was of the king's seed in Edom.

15 Es geschah nämlich, als David in Edom war, [Wahrsch. ist mit and. zu l.: Edom schlug] als Joab, der Heeroberste, hinaufzog, um die Erschlagenen zu begraben, und er alles Männliche in Edom erschlug

And when David had sent destruction on Edom, and Joab, the captain of the army, had gone to put the dead into the earth, and had put to death every male in Edom;

16 [denn Joab blieb sechs Monate daselbst mit ganz Israel, bis er alles Männliche in Edom ausgerottet hatte]:

(For Joab and all Israel were there six months till every male in Edom had been cut off; )

17 da entfloh Hadad, er und edomitische Männer von den Knechten seines Vaters mit ihm, um sich nach Ägypten zu begeben; Hadad war aber ein kleiner Knabe.

Hadad, being still a young boy, went in flight to Egypt, with certain Edomites, servants of his father;

18 Und sie machten sich auf aus Midian und kamen nach Paran; und sie nahmen Männer aus Paran mit sich und kamen nach Ägypten zu dem Pharao, dem König von Ägypten. Und er gab ihm ein Haus und wies ihm Speise an und gab ihm Land.

And they went on from Midian and came to Paran; and, taking men from Paran with them, they came to Egypt, to Pharaoh, king of Egypt, who gave him a house and gave orders for his food and gave him land.

19 Und Hadad fand große Gnade in den Augen des Pharao, und er gab ihm die Schwester seines Weibes, die Schwester der Königin Thachpenes, zum Weibe.

Now Hadad was very pleasing to Pharaoh, so that he gave him the sister of his wife, Tahpenes the queen, for his wife.

20 Und die Schwester der Thachpenes gebar ihm Genubath, seinen Sohn; und Thachpenes pflegte ihn im Hause des Pharao; und so war Genubath im Hause des Pharao, unter den Söhnen des Pharao.

And the sister of Tahpenes had a son by him, Genubath, whom Tahpenes took care of in Pharaoh's house; and Genubath was living in Pharaoh's house among Pharaoh's sons.

21 Und als Hadad in Ägypten hörte, daß David sich zu seinen Vätern gelegt hatte, und daß Joab, der Heeroberste, tot war, da sprach Hadad zu dem Pharao: Entlasse mich, daß ich in mein Land ziehe.

Now when Hadad had news in Egypt that David had been put to rest with his fathers, and that Joab, the captain of the army, was dead, he said to Pharaoh, Send me back to my country.

22 Und der Pharao sprach zu ihm: Was mangelt dir bei mir? Und siehe, du begehrst in dein Land zu ziehen? Und er sprach: Nichts; aber entlasse mich doch!

But Pharaoh said to him, What have you been short of while you have been with me, that you are desiring to go back to your country? And he said, Nothing; but even so, send me back.

23 Und Gott erweckte ihm einen Widersacher, Reson, den Sohn Eljadas, der von Hadadeser, dem König von Zoba, seinem Herrn, geflohen war.

And God sent another trouble-maker, Rezon, the son of Eliada, who had gone in flight from his lord, Hadadezer, king of Zobah:

24 Und er sammelte Männer um sich und wurde Oberster einer Schar, als David die Zobaiter [W. sie. Vergl. 2. Sam. 8,3. 4] tötete; und sie zogen nach Damaskus und wohnten darin, und sie regierten in Damaskus.

He got some men together and made himself captain of a band of outlaws; and went to Damascus and became king there.

25 Und er wurde ein Widersacher Israels, alle Tage Salomos, und zwar neben dem Übel, das Hadad tat; und er verabscheute Israel, und er wurde König über Syrien. [H. Aram]

He was a trouble to Israel all through the days of Solomon. And this is the damage Hadad did: he was cruel to Israel while he was ruler over Edom.

26 Und Jerobeam, der Sohn Nebats, ein Ephratiter, [d. h. ein Ephraimiter; vergl. Richter 12,5] von Zereda [und der Name seiner Mutter war Zerua, eine Witwe], ein Knecht Salomos, auch er erhob die Hand wider den König.

And there was Jeroboam, the son of Nebat, an Ephraimite from Zeredah, a servant of Solomon, whose mother was Zeruah, a widow; and his hand was lifted up against the king.

27 Und dies war die Sache, warum er die Hand wider den König erhob: Salomo baute das Millo und schloß die Lücke [Wahrsch. die Schlucht zwischen Zion und Ophel, wodurch die Befestigung Jerusalems vollendet wurde] der Stadt seines Vaters David.

The way in which his hand came to be lifted up against the king was this: Solomon was building the Millo and making good the damaged parts of the town of his father David;

28 Der Mann Jerobeam aber war ein wackerer Mann; und als Salomo den Jüngling sah, daß er arbeitsam war, bestellte er ihn über alle Lastarbeiter des Hauses Joseph.

And Jeroboam was an able and responsible man; and Solomon saw that he was a good worker and made him overseer of all the work given to the sons of Joseph.

29 Und es geschah zu selbiger Zeit, als Jerobeam einmal aus Jerusalem hinausging, da fand ihn der Prophet Achija, der Siloniter, auf dem Wege; und er hatte sich in ein neues Oberkleid gehüllt, und sie beide waren allein auf dem Felde.

Now at that time, when Jeroboam was going out of Jerusalem, the prophet Ahijah the Shilonite came across him on the road; now Ahijah had put on a new robe; and the two of them were by themselves in the open country.

30 Da faßte Achija das neue Oberkleid, das er anhatte, und zerriß es in zwölf Stücke;

And Ahijah took his new robe in his hands, parting it violently into twelve.

31 und er sprach zu Jerobeam: Nimm dir zehn Stücke; denn so spricht Jehova, der Gott Israels: Siehe, ich will das Königreich aus der Hand Salomos reißen und will dir zehn Stämme geben

And he said to Jeroboam, Take ten of the parts, for this is what the Lord has said: See, I will take the kingdom away from Solomon by force, and will give ten tribes to you;

32 [aber einen Stamm soll er behalten um meines Knechtes David willen und um Jerusalems willen, der Stadt, die ich erwählt habe aus allen Stämmen Israels];

(But one tribe will be his, because of my servant David, and because of Jerusalem, the town which, out of all the tribes of Israel, I have made mine, )

33 darum, daß sie mich verlassen und sich niedergebeugt haben vor Astoreth, der Gottheit der Zidonier, vor Kamos, dem Gott der Moabiter, und vor Milkom, dem Gott der Kinder Ammon, und nicht auf meinen Wegen gewandelt haben, zu tun, was recht ist in meinen Augen, und meine Satzungen und meine Rechte zu beobachten, wie sein Vater David.

Because they are turned away from me to the worship of Ashtoreth, the goddess of the Zidonians, and Chemosh, the god of Moab, and Milcom, the god of the Ammonites; they have not been walking in my ways or doing what is right in my eyes or keeping my laws and my decisions as his father David did.

34 Doch will ich nicht das ganze Königreich aus seiner Hand nehmen, sondern will ihn zum Fürsten setzen alle Tage seines Lebens, um meines Knechtes David willen, den ich erwählt habe, der meine Gebote und meine Satzungen beobachtet hat.

But I will not take the kingdom from him; I will let him be king all the days of his life, because of David my servant, in whom I took delight because he kept my orders and my laws.

35 Aber aus der Hand seines Sohnes will ich das Königreich nehmen und es dir geben, die zehn Stämme;

But I will take the kingdom from his son, and give it to you.

36 und seinem Sohne will ich einen Stamm geben, auf daß mein Knecht David alle Tage eine Leuchte vor mir habe in Jerusalem, der Stadt, die ich mir erwählt habe, um meinen Namen dahin zu setzen.

And one tribe I will give to his son, so that David my servant may have a light for ever burning before me in Jerusalem, the town which I have made mine to put my name there.

37 Und dich will ich nehmen, daß du regierest über alles, was deine Seele begehren wird, und König seiest über Israel.

And you I will take, and you will be king over Israel, ruling over whatever is the desire of your soul.

38 Und es wird geschehen, wenn du hören wirst auf alles, was ich dir gebiete, und auf meinen Wegen wandeln und tun wirst, was recht ist in meinen Augen, indem du meine Satzungen und meine Gebote beobachtest, wie mein Knecht David getan hat, so werde ich mit dir sein und dir ein beständiges Haus bauen, wie ich es dem David gebaut habe, und werde dir Israel geben;

And if you give attention to the orders I give you, walking in my ways and doing what is right in my eyes and keeping my laws and my orders as David my servant did; then I will be with you, building up for you a safe house, as I did for David, and I will give Israel to you.

39 und ich werde den Samen Davids um deswillen demütigen, doch nicht für immer. -

(So that I may send trouble for this on the seed of David, but not for ever.)

40 Und Salomo suchte Jerobeam zu töten; da machte Jerobeam sich auf und entfloh nach Ägypten zu Sisak, [H. Schischak] dem König von Ägypten; und er war in Ägypten bis zum Tode Salomos.

And Solomon was looking for a chance to put Jeroboam to death; but he went in flight to Egypt, to Shishak, king of Egypt, and was in Egypt till the death of Solomon.

41 Und das Übrige der Geschichte [Eig. der Handlungen, Begebenheiten] Salomos und alles, was er getan hat, und seine Weisheit, ist das nicht geschrieben in dem Buche der Geschichte Salomos?

Now the rest of the acts of Solomon, and all he did, and his wisdom, are they not recorded in the book of the acts of Solomon?

42 Und die Tage, die Salomo zu Jerusalem über ganz Israel regierte, waren vierzig Jahre.

And the time Solomon was king in Jerusalem over all Israel was forty years.

43 Und Salomo legte sich zu seinen Vätern, und er wurde begraben in der Stadt seines Vaters David. Und Rehabeam, sein Sohn, ward König an seiner Statt.

And Solomon went to rest with his fathers, and was put into the earth in the town of David his father: and Solomon went to rest with his fathers and Rehoboam his son became king in his place.
