Psalm 4
1 Dem Sangmeister, mit Saitenspielbegleitung. Ein Psalm Davids.
For the Chief Musician; on stringed instruments. A Psalm of David. Answer me when I call, O God of my righteousness; thou hast set me at large [when I was] in distress: have mercy upon me, and hear my prayer.
2 Wenn ich rufe, erhöre mich, Gott meines Heils! / Du hast mich ja schon aus Drangsal errettet; / So sei mir nun gnädig und hör mein Gebet!
O ye sons of men, how long shall my glory be turned into dishonour? [how long] will ye love vanity, and seek after falsehood? (Selah)
3 Ihr Männer von Ansehn, wie lange wollt ihr meine Ehre schänden, / Indem ihr das Nichtige liebt und auf Lügen sinnt? (Sela)
But know that the LORD hath set apart him that is godly for himself: the LORD will hear when I call unto him.
4 Wisset, daß Jahwe mich reich begnadet: Jahwe hört, wenn ich zu ihm rufe.
Stand in awe, and sin not: commune with your own heart upon your bed, and be still. (Selah)
5 Wollt ihr zürnen, so sündigt doch nicht! / Prüft euer Herz im stillen und schweigt! (Sela)
Offer the sacrifices of righteousness, and put your trust in the LORD.
6 Bringt rechte Opfer und traut auf Jahwe!
Many there be that say, Who will shew us [any] good? LORD, lift thou up the light of thy countenance upon us.
7 Viele sagen: "Wer läßt uns Gutes schaun?" / O, erheb über uns das Licht deines Angesichts, Jahwe!
Thou hast put gladness in my heart, more than [they have] when their corn and their wine are increased.
8 Du hast mir Freude ins Herz gegeben; / Das ist ein besserer Schatz als all ihr Korn und Most. Nun will ich in Frieden mich niederlegen zum Schlaf; / Denn du, o Jahwe, lässest mich ungestört und sicher wohnen.
In peace will I both lay me down and sleep: for thou, LORD, alone makest me dwell in safety.
