Psalm 105
1 Danket Jahwe, ruft seinen Namen an, / Macht seine großen Taten inmitten der Völker kund!
Give thanks to Yahweh! Call on his name! Make his doings known among the peoples.
2 Singt ihm, spielt ihm, / Redet von all seinen Wundern!
Sing to him, sing praises to him! Tell of all his marvelous works.
3 Rühmt euch seines heiligen Namens! / Es freue sich deren Herz, die Jahwe suchen.
Glory in his holy name. Let the heart of those who seek Yahweh rejoice.
4 Fraget nach Jahwe und seiner Macht, / Suchet sein Antlitz beständig!
Seek Yahweh and his strength. Seek his face forever more.
5 Gedenkt seiner Wunder, die er getan, / Seiner Zeichen und der Urteile seines Munds,
Remember his marvelous works that he has done: his wonders, and the judgments of his mouth,
6 Ihr Nachkommen Abrahams, seines Knechts, / Ihr Söhne Jakobs, seine Erwählten!
you offspring of Abraham, his servant, you children of Jacob, his chosen ones.
7 Er, Jahwe, ist unser Gott; / Er waltet gerecht über alle Lande.
He is Yahweh, our God. His judgments are in all the earth.
8 Er gedenkt seines Bundes auf ewig, / Des Wortes, das er geboten für tausend Geschlechter,
He has remembered his covenant forever, the word which he commanded to a thousand generations,
9 Des Bundes, den er geschlossen mit Abraham, / Seines Eides an Isaak.
the covenant which he made with Abraham, his oath to Isaac,
10 Er hat ihn für Jakob verheißend bestätigt, / Für Israel als ewigen Bund.
and confirmed it to Jacob for a statute; to Israel for an everlasting covenant,
11 Indem er sagte: "Dir will ich geben Kanaans Land / Als euer erblich Besitztum."
saying, “To you I will give the land of Canaan, the lot of your inheritance,”
12 Damals waren sie klein an Zahl, / Ein Häuflein nur, und Gäste im Land.
when they were but a few men in number, yes, very few, and foreigners in it.
13 So wanderten sie von Volk zu Volk, / Von einem Reiche zum andern Volk.
They went about from nation to nation, from one kingdom to another people.
14 Er ließ sie dabei von niemand bedrücken, / Ja, Könige strafte er ihretwegen:
He allowed no one to do them wrong. Yes, he reproved kings for their sakes,
15 "Tastet meine Gesalbten nicht an, / Und meinen Propheten tut kein Leid!"
“Don’t touch my anointed ones! Do my prophets no harm!”
16 Dann rief er Hungersnot gegen das Land, / Nahm jegliche Nahrung hinweg.
He called for a famine on the land. He destroyed the food supplies.
17 Er sandte vor ihnen her einen Mann: / Josef ward als Sklave verkauft.
He sent a man before them. Joseph was sold for a slave.
18 Seine Füße wurden gefesselt, / In Eisen legte man ihn,
They bruised his feet with shackles. His neck was locked in irons,
19 Bis sich sein Wort erfüllte, / Jahwes Spruch ihn geläutert hatte.
until the time that his word happened, and Yahweh’s word proved him true.
20 Da sandte der König und ließ ihn los, / Der Völkerbeherrscher gab ihn frei.
The king sent and freed him, even the ruler of peoples, and let him go free.
21 Er setzte ihn seinem Hause zum Herrn, / Zum Gebieter über all seinen Besitz;
He made him lord of his house, and ruler of all of his possessions,
22 Er sollte seine Fürsten an sich fesseln, / Seine Ältesten sollte er Weisheit lehren.
to discipline his princes at his pleasure, and to teach his elders wisdom.
23 Dann kam Israel nach Ägypten, / Und Jakob ward Gast im Lande Hams.
Israel also came into Egypt. Jacob lived in the land of Ham.
24 Gott ließ sein Volk sehr zahlreich werden / Und machte es stärker als seine Bedränger.
He increased his people greatly, and made them stronger than their adversaries.
25 Es wandelte sich nämlich ihr Herz, sein Volk zu hassen, / Arglist zu üben an seinen Knechten.
He turned their heart to hate his people, to conspire against his servants.
26 Da sandte Gott Mose, seinen Knecht, / Und Aaron, den er sich erkoren.
He sent Moses, his servant, and Aaron, whom he had chosen.
27 Die taten Zeichen bei ihnen durch seine Macht / Und Wunderdinge im Lande Hams.
They performed miracles among them, and wonders in the land of Ham.
28 Er sandte Finsternis — es ward dunkel; / Denn widerstrebten sie nicht seinen Worten?
He sent darkness, and made it dark. They didn’t rebel against his words.
29 Er verwandelte ihre Gewässer in Blut / Und ließ dadurch ihre Fische sterben.
He turned their waters into blood, and killed their fish.
30 Es wimmelte auch ihr Land von Fröschen: / Die drangen sogar in der Könige Kammern.
Their land swarmed with frogs, even in the rooms of their kings.
31 Er sprach, da kamen Bremsen, / Stechmücken in all ihr Gebiet.
He spoke, and swarms of flies came, and lice in all their borders.
32 Er gab ihnen Hagel als Regen, / Ließ Feuer lohen in ihrem Land.
He gave them hail for rain, with lightning in their land.
33 Er schlug ihren Weinstock und Feigenbaum, / Zerbrach alle Bäume ihres Gebiets.
He struck their vines and also their fig trees, and shattered the trees of their country.
34 Er sprach, da kamen Heuschrecken / Und Hüpfer ohne Zahl.
He spoke, and the locusts came with the grasshoppers, without number.
35 Die fraßen alles Kraut in ihrem Land, / Sie verzehrten die Frucht ihrer Felder.
They ate up every plant in their land, and ate up the fruit of their ground.
36 Alle Erstgeburt schlug er in ihrem Land, / Die Erstlinge all ihrer Manneskraft.
He struck also all the firstborn in their land, the first fruits of all their manhood.
37 Da ließ er sein Volk mit Silber und Gold ausziehn, / Und es strauchelte keiner in seinen Stämmen.
He brought them out with silver and gold. There was not one feeble person among his tribes.
38 Die Ägypter freuten sich ihres Auszugs, / Denn Graun vor ihnen war auf sie gefallen.
Egypt was glad when they departed, for the fear of them had fallen on them.
39 Er spannte Gewölk als Decke aus, / Und Feuer gab ihnen zur Nachtzeit Licht.
He spread a cloud for a covering, fire to give light in the night.
40 Er bat: da ließ Gott Wachteln kommen / Und sättigte sie mit Himmelsbrot.
They asked, and he brought quails, and satisfied them with the bread of the sky.
41 Einen Fels tat er auf: da floß Wasser heraus; / Es rann wie ein Strom durch die Steppe.
He opened the rock, and waters gushed out. They ran as a river in the dry places.
42 Denn er dachte seines heiligen Worts / Und Abrahams, seines Knechts.
For he remembered his holy word, and Abraham, his servant.
43 Drum ließ er sein Volk mit Freuden ausziehn, / Seine Auserwählten mit Jubel.
He brought his people out with joy, his chosen with singing.
44 Er gab ihnen Länder der Heiden; / Was Völker erworben, das erbten sie.
He gave them the lands of the nations. They took the labor of the peoples in possession,
45 Denn sie sollten seine Gesetze befolgen / Und seinen Lehren gehorsam sein. / Lobt Jah!
that they might keep his statutes, and observe his laws. Praise Yah!
