Matthaeus 11
1 Als Jesus seinen zwölf Jüngern diese Weisungen erteilt hatte, ging er von dort weiter, um in den Städten des Landes zu lehren und zu predigen.
And it came to pass, when Jesus had made an end of commanding his twelve disciples, he passed from thence, to teach and preach in their cities.
2 Als Johannes im Gefängnis von der Wirksamkeit des Messias hörte, ließ er ihn durch seine Jünger fragen:
Now when John had heard in prison the works of Christ: sending two of his disciples he said to him:
3 "Bist du es, der kommen soll, oder müssen wir auf einen anderen warten?"
Art thou he that art to come, or look we for another?
4 Jesus antwortete ihnen: "Geht und berichtet Johannes, was ihr hört und seht:
And Jesus making answer said to them: Go and relate to John what you have heard and seen.
5 Blinde werden sehend und Lahme gehen, Aussätzige werden rein und Taube hören, ja Tote werden auferweckt und Armen wird die Heilsbotschaft verkündigt;
The blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead rise again, the poor have the gospel preached to them.
6 und selig ist, wer an mir nicht irre wird!"
And blessed is he that shall not be scandalized in me.
7 Als die Boten weggingen, begann Jesus zu den Volksscharen von Johannes zu reden: "Warum seid ihr einst in die Wüste hinausgegangen? Wolltet ihr euch ein Schilfrohr ansehen, das sich im Winde hin und her bewegte? Doch sicher nicht!
And when they went their way, Jesus began to say to the multitudes concerning John: What went you out into the desert to see? a reed shaken with the wind?
8 Warum seid ihr denn hinausgegangen? Wolltet ihr einen feingekleideten Weltmann sehen? Solche feingekleidete Leute finden sich an den Königshöfen.
But what went you out to see? a man clothed in soft garments? Behold they that are clothed in soft garments, are in the houses of kings.
9 Warum seid ihr denn hinausgegangen? Wolltet ihr einen Propheten sehen? Ja ich sage euch: Dieser Mann ist noch weit mehr als ein Prophet.
But what went you out to see? a prophet? yea I tell you, and more than a prophet.
10 Denn er ist es, von dem geschrieben steht: Sieh, ich sende meinen Boten vor dir her, der deinen Weg vor dir bereiten soll
For this is he of whom it is written: Behold I send my angel before thy face, who shall prepare thy way before thee.
11 Wahrlich, ich sage euch: Unter allen Weibersöhnen ist kein Größerer aufgetreten als Johannes der Täufer; doch der Kleinste im Königreich der Himmel ist größer als er.
Amen I say to you, there hath not risen among them that are born of women a greater than John the Baptist: yet he that is the lesser in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.
12 Aber seit dem Auftreten Johannes des Täufers bis jetzt wird das Königreich der Himmel gestürmt. Und die Stürmer reißen es an sich.
And from the days of John the Baptist until now, the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and the violent bear it away.
13 Denn alle Propheten und das Gesetz haben davon geweissagt bis auf Johannes.
For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John:
14 Und wollt ihr's gelten lassen: er ist der Elia, der kommen soll.
And if you will receive it, he is Elias that is to come.
15 Wer Ohren hat, der höre!
He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.
16 Wem soll ich aber das Volk von heute vergleichen? Es gleicht Kindern, die auf der Straße sitzen und ihren Gespielen zurufen:
But whereunto shall I esteem this generation to be like? It is like to children sitting in the market place.
17 Wir haben euch die Flöte gespielt, doch ihr habt nicht getanzt; wir haben ein Klagelied gesungen, doch ihr habt nicht geweint.
Who crying to their companions say: We have piped to you, and you have not danced: we have lamented, and you have not mourned.
18 Johannes ist aufgetreten und hat streng enthaltsam gelebt in Speise und Trank; da sagte man: 'Er ist von einem bösen Geist besessen!'
For John came neither eating nor drinking; and they say: He hath a devil.
19 Der Menschensohn ist aufgetreten und ißt und trinkt wie andere; da sagt man nun: 'Seht, er ist ein Fresser und Weintrinker, der Zöllner und Sünder Freund'. Aber doch ist die Weisheit (Gottes) durch ihr ganzes Tun gerechtfertigt worden."
The Son of man came eating and drinking, and they say: Behold a man that is a glutton and a wine drinker, a friend of publicans and sinners. And wisdom is justified by her children.
20 Dann fing er an, die Städte zu schelten, in denen seine meisten Wundertaten geschehen waren, und die sich trotzdem nicht bekehrt hatten:
Then began he to upbraid the cities wherein were done the most of his miracles, for that they had not done penance.
21 "Weh dir, Chorazin! Wehe dir, Bethsaida. Denn wären in Tyrus und Sidon die Wundertaten geschehen, die in euch geschehen sind, sie hätten sich schon längst, in Sack und Asche sitzend, bekehrt.
Woe to thee, Corozain, woe to thee, Bethsaida: for if in Tyre and Sidon had been wrought the miracles that have been wrought in you, they had long ago done penance in sackcloth and ashes.
22 Doch ich sage euch: Es wird Tyrus und Sidon am Tage des Gerichts erträglicher gehen als euch.
But I say unto you, it shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon in the day of judgment, than for you.
23 Und du, Kapernaum, meinst du vielleicht, du wirst bis zum Himmel erhoben? In die Tiefe der Unterwelt sollst du hinabgestürzt werden! Denn wären in Sodom die Wundertaten geschehen, die in dir geschehen sind, es stünde noch heutigentags. (Hadēs g86)
And thou Capharnaum, shalt thou be exalted up to heaven? thou shalt go down even unto hell. For if in Sodom had been wrought the miracles that have been wrought in thee, perhaps it had remained unto this day. (Hadēs g86)
24 Doch ich sage euch: Es wird dem Lande Sodom am Tage des Gerichts erträglicher gehen als dir."
But I say unto you, that it shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom in the day of judgment, than for thee.
25 Zu jener Zeit tat Jesus seinen Mund auf und sprach: "Ich preise dich, o Vater, Herr des Himmels und der Erde, daß du dies den Weisen und Verständigen verborgen und es den Einfältigen offenbart hast.
At that time Jesus answered and said: I confess to thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them to the little ones.
26 Ja, Vater, so hat dir's gefallen!
Yea, Father; for so hath it seemed good in thy sight.
27 Alles ist mir von meinem Vater übergeben worden. Und niemand kennt den Sohn vollkommen als nur der Vater; auch kennt niemand den Vater recht als nur der Sohn und der, dem der Sohn es offenbaren will.
All things are delivered to me by my Father. And no one knoweth the Son, but the Father: neither doth any one know the Father, but the Son, and he to whom it shall please the Son to reveal him.
28 Kommt alle her zu mir, die ihr euch abmüht und von Last gedrückt seid! Ich will euch Ruhe schenken.
Come to me, all you that labour, and are burdened, and I will refresh you.
29 Nehmt mein Joch auf euch und lernt von mir; denn ich bin mild und voller Herzensdemut; dann werdet ihr Ruhe finden für eure Seelen.
Take up my yoke upon you, and learn of me, because I am meek, and humble of heart: and you shall find rest to your souls.
30 Denn mein Joch ist sanft, und meine Last ist leicht."
For my yoke is sweet and my burden light.
