1 Dies ist das Buch der Geschichte Jesu Christi, des Sohnes Davids, des Sohnes Abrahams.
This book is the record of Jesus the Messiah, the son of David, the son of Abraham, beginning with the family line:
2 Abraham war der Vater Isaaks. Isaak war der Vater Jakobs. Jakob war der Vater Judas und seiner Brüder.
Abraham was the father of Isaac; and Isaac the father of Jacob; and Jacob the father of Judah and his brothers;
3 Juda war — durch Thamar — der Vater des Perez und Serah. Perez war der Vater Hezrons. Hezron war der Vater Rams.
and Judah the father of Perez and Zerah (their mother was Tamar); and Perez the father of Hezron; and Hezron the father of Ram;
4 Ram war der Vater Aminadabs. Aminadab war der Vater Nahessons. Nahesson war der Vater Salmas.
and Ram the father of Amminadab; and Amminadab the father of Nahshon; and Nahshon the father of Salmon;
5 Salma war — durch Rahab — der Vater des Boas. Boas war — durch Ruth — der Vater Obeds. Obed war der Vater Isais.
and Salmon the father of Boaz (his mother was Rahab); and Boaz the father of Obed (his mother was Ruth); and Obed the father of Jesse;
6 Isai war der Vater des Königs David. David war — durch Urias Witwe — der Vater Salomos.
and Jesse the father of King David. David was the father of Solomon (his mother had been Uriah's wife);
7 Salomo war der Vater Rehabeams. Rehabeam war der Vater Abias. Abia war der Vater Asas.
and Solomon the father of Rehoboam; and Rehoboam the father of Abijah; and Abijah the father of Asa;
8 Asa war der Vater Josafats. Josafat war der Vater Jorams. Joram war der Vater Usias.
and Asa the father of Jehoshaphat; and Jehoshaphat the father of Jehoram; and Jehoram the father of Uzziah;
9 Usia war der Vater Jotams. Jotam war der Vater des Ahas. Ahas war der Vater Hiskias.
and Uzziah the father of Jotham; and Jotham the father of Ahaz; and Ahaz the father of Hezekiah;
10 Hiskia war der Vater Manasses. Manasse war der Vater Amons. Amon war der Vater Josias.
and Hezekiah the father of Manasseh; and Manasseh the father of Amon; and Amon the father of Josiah;
11 Josia wurde der Vater Jechonjas und seiner Brüder zur Zeit der Wegführung nach Babylon.
and Josiah the father of Jehoiachin and his brothers, at the time of the exile to Babylon.
12 Nach der Wegführung nach Babylon wurde Jechonja der Vater Sealthiels. Sealthiel war der Vater Serubabels.
After the exile to Babylon, Jehoiachin was the father of Shealtiel; and Shealtiel the father of Zerubbabel;
13 Serubabel war der Vater Abiuds. Abiud war der Vater Eljakims. Eljakim war der Vater Asors.
and Zerubbabel the father of Abiud; and Abiud the father of Eliakim; and Eliakim the father of Azor;
14 Asor war der Vater Zadoks. Zadoks war der Vater Achims. Achim war der Vater Eliuds.
and Azor the father of Zadok; and Zadok the father of Akim; and Akim the father of Eliud;
15 Eliud war der Vater Eleasars. Eleasar war der Vater Matthans. Matthan war der Vater Jakobs.
and Eliud the father of Eleazar; and Eleazar the father of Matthan; and Matthan the father of Jacob;
16 Jakob war der Vater Josefs, des Mannes der Maria. Maria aber ist die Mutter jenes Jesus, der den Namen Christus trägt.
and Jacob was the father of Joseph, who was the husband of Mary, to whom Jesus was born, the one who is called the Messiah.
17 Alle Geschlechter von Abraham bis David betragen vierzehn. Auch von David bis zu der Wegfnhrung nach Babylon sind vierzehn Geschlechter. Ebenso sind vierzehn Geschlechter von der Wegfnhrung nach Babylon bis auf den Messias.
So all the generations from Abraham to David add up to fourteen; from David to the Babylonian exile, fourteen; and from the Babylonian exile to the Messiah, fourteen.
18 Mit Christi Geburt verhielt es sich so: Als seine Mutter Maria mit Josef verlobt war, da zeigte sich's, noch ehe sie zusammenzogen, daß sie vom Heiligen Geist empfangen hatte.
This is how the birth of Jesus the Messiah happened. His mother, Mary, was engaged to Joseph, but before they slept together she became pregnant by the Holy Spirit.
19 Josef aber, ihr Verlobter, der ein frommer Mann war und sie nicht bloßstellen wollte, ging schon damit um, sich in aller Stille von ihr zu trennen.
Joseph, her fiancé, was a good man and didn't want to shame her publicly, so he decided to break the engagement discreetly.
20 Als er dies erwog, da erschien ihm im Traume ein Engel des Herrn und sprach zu ihm: "Josef, du Sohn Davids, scheue dich nicht, Maria, deine Verlobte, zu deiner Ehefrau zu machen! Denn was in ihr erzeugt ist, das stammt von dem Heiligen Geiste.
While he was thinking about all of this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and told him, “Joseph, son of David, don't be afraid to marry Mary because she is pregnant by the Holy Spirit.
21 Und sie wird einen Sohn gebären, dem sollst du den Namen Jesus geben; denn er wird sein Volk erretten von ihren Sünden."
She will give birth to a son and you shall call him Jesus, for he will save people from their sins.”
22 Dies alles ist geschehen, damit sich jenes Wort erfülle, das der Herr durch den Mund des Propheten gesprochen hat:
(Now this all happened to fulfill what the Lord said through the prophet:
23 Siehe, die Jungfrau wird empfangen und einen Sohn gebären, und seinen Namen wird man nennen Immanuel, das heißt: mit uns ist Gott.
“A virgin will become pregnant, and will give birth to a son. They will call him Immanuel,” which means “God with us.”)
24 Als Josef von seinem Schlaf erwachte, tat er, wie ihm der Engel des Herrn befohlen hatte, und führte seine Verlobte als Eheweib heim.
Joseph woke up and did what the angel of the Lord told him to do.
25 Aber er verkehrte nicht mit ihr, bis sie einen Sohn geboren hatte. Dem gab er den Namen Jesus.
Joseph married Mary, but did not sleep with her until after she had given birth to a son, whom he named Jesus.
