1 Hessaththoka macheto! inte inte azinatas azazetite. Hessatho issi issi azinati Xoossa qaala ammanonttayta gidikkoka coo mela ba machcheta lo7etethan xalala simmontta agettena.
In like manner, ye wives, —submitting yourselves unto your own husbands; in order that, if any are not yielding unto the word, through their wives behaviour, they may, without the word, be won,
2 Istti simmana danda7izay inte geeshatethane inte ase bonchiza duusu dizayssa beydikko.
Having been permitted to behold your reverently chaste behaviour, —
3 Inte lo7etethi coo mela hu7e dathanine worqan gexxetethan, al7o mayo mayon, coo mela ayfen beettiza geexen gidopo.
Whose adorning, let it be—not the outward, of plaiting the hair and wearing golden ornaments, or putting on of apparel,
4 Inte lo7oy Xoossa sinthan wagara diza keehi bonchetidazine dhayontta gexxen, ashiketethan, addatethanine ayanan gexxettida wozina garisan qoteti diza giddo wozina lo7eteth gido.
But the hidden character, of the heart, —in the incorruptible [ornament] of the quiet, and meek, spirit, which is, in presence of God, of great price.
5 Beni wode ba ufayss Xoossan oothida geesha macashati gexxettiday hayssa malankko. Istti ba azinatas azazettida.
For, so, at one time, the holy women also, who directed their hope towards God, used to adorn themselves, being in submission unto their own husbands:
6 Istti azazetidaykka Saaray Abirame “Ta godo!” gaada azazettidayssa malakko. Inteka lo7o miishi oothikone issi iitta miishey intena daganthontta aggiko inte Saara naytakko.
As, Sarah, was obedient unto Abraham, calling him, lord, —whose children ye have become—so long as ye are doing good, and not bringing yourselves into fear of any single cause of alarm.
7 Azinato! inte inte machchetara akekan issife deyte. Istti intefe daburancha medheteth gidida gishshine qasseka Xoossi coo mela kiyatethan immiza deyo istti intenara issife laatanayssa gishshi inte istta bonchite. Inte heyssatho oothiko inte woossa dhuphiza miishey deena.
Ye husbands, in like manner, dwelling with them according to knowledge, —as unto a weaker vessel, unto the female [vessel], assigning honour, as joint—inheritors also of life’s favour, —to the end that unhindered may be, your prayers.
8 Hessafe hara baggara qass inte issay issara siiqon diite. Hara ura bolla gakkiza meto inte meto mala xeellite. Inte inte garisan ishantta mala siiqettite. Ashikistane kiyata gidite.
And, finally, all, being of one mind, having fellow—feeling, attached to the brethren, of tender affection, of lowly mind:
9 Anjjite attin isttas iitta cashes, cashshe zaaropite. Inte xeeygetiday hessaththo oothid anjjo laatanaskko.
Not returning evil for evil, nor reviling for reviling, but, on the contrary, bestowing a blessing, —because, hereunto, have ye been called, in order that, a blessing, ye might inherit.
10 Geesha maxaafay giza mala “Deyon daana koyzayine lo7o gallasata beyanas koyiza uray ba duunape iitta hasa7ontta malane ba meterishatika gene hasa7ontta mala naageto.
For, he that desireth to love, life, and to see good days, Let him cause his tongue to cease from mischief, and lips, that they speak not deceit;
11 Iitta yoope hakkone lo7o ootho; saroteth koyone kaallo.
Let him turn away from mischief, and do good, Let him seek peace, and pursue it;
12 Goda ayfeti xiillota bagga xeelletes. Iza haythetika istta woossa siyanas doya deetes. Hinko iitta oothizayta qass Goday ba hanqo ayfeso bessana”
Because, the eyes of the Lord, are towards the righteous, and his ears, unto their supplication, —Whereas, the face of the Lord, is against them that are doing mischievous things.
13 Inte lo7o oothanas miinetiko inte bolla iitta miishe gaathanay oonee?
Who, then, is he that shall harm you, if, for that which is good, ye become zealous?
14 Inte lo7o oothida gishshi waaye beykoka inte anjjo ekkana. Asay inte bolla iitta oothanas mandetizayssas babbofitene daro qopofite.
Nevertheless, even if ye should suffer for righteousness’ sake, happy [are ye]! Their fear, however, do not fear, neither be troubled;
15 Goda Kiristoosa inte wozinan bonchitene iza inte deyos Goda histtite. Intes diza ufayssa gishshi intena oychizaytas wurisos malthe immanas wurso wode giigeti uttite.
But, the Lord Christ, hallow ye in your hearts, ready always for a defence, unto every one that is asking you a reason concerning, the hope within you, —nevertheless, with meekness and reverence:
16 Inte isttas immana malthey qass ashiketethanine bonchon gido. Inte Kiristoosayta gidida gishshi intes diza lo7o amaleza gishshi iitta hasa7iza asay ba iitta hasa7an yeellatana mala intes lo7o qopay deyo.
Having, a good conscience, in order that, wherein they speak against you, they may be put to shame who cast wanton insult on, your good behaviour in Christ.
17 Xoossa shene gidiko inte iitta ootho oothidi waayetanayssyafe lo7o ootho oothidi waayetiko lo7okko.
For it is, better, as well-doers, if it should please the pleasure of God, to be suffering, than, as evil-doers:
18 Kiristoosayka nuna Xoossako shiishanas izi ba hu7es xiillokko shin hanko xiillo gidontta nu nagara gishshi nam7anthettontta mala issi to waayettidi hayqides. Izi ashon hayqides shin ayanan qass paxides.
Because, Christ also, once for all, concerning sins, died, —Just in behalf of unjust, —in order that he might introduce us unto God; being put to death, indeed, in flesh, but made alive in spirit, —
19 Hessa he ayanan qasho keeththan diza shempotako biidi isttas miishiracho qaala yootides.
In which, even unto the spirits in prison, he went and proclaimed, —
20 Heyti heen woyne keeththan diza shempoti kase Nohe wode markabezi ootheti giigishin istti simmana mala Xoossi danda7an naagishin nuni nessi azazettokko gidaytakko. He markabezan gellin haathey istta ashidayta qooday osppun gidida guuthata asata xalalakko.
[Spirits] unyielding at one time, when the longsuffering of God was holding forth a welcome in the days of Noah, there being in preparation an ark—[going] into which, a few, that is eight, souls, were brought safely through by means of water, —
21 Hessi he haathezi ha7i qass inte izan attiza xinqatte lemusokko. Hayssi xinqattey qita bolla geeyanas meccetethi gidontta geesha qopa ekanas Xoossako shiishiza woossakko. Izi intena ashanayka Yesus Kiristoosa dentha baggarakko.
Which [water] in manner corresponding, doth, now, save, you also—even immersion, —not a putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the request unto God, for a good conscience, through the resurrection of Jesus Christ, —
22 Izi pude salo biidi ha7i Xoossa achchan dees. kiitanchatine godatethi isttas dizayti wolqamataka izas haarettida.
Who is on the right hand of God, having gone into heaven, messengers and authorities and powers, having been made subject unto him.
