Ruth 2
1 Or Elimélech, mari de Noémi, avait un parent, homme puissant et de grandes richesses, du nom de Booz.
And Na'omi had a kinsman of her husband's, a mighty, valiant man, of the family of Elimelech, whose name was Bo'az.
2 Et Ruth, la Moabite, dit à sa belle-mère: Si vous ordonnez, j’irai dans le champ, et je recueillerai les épis qui auront échappé des mains des moissonneurs, partout où je trouverai grâce devant un père de famille, bon pour moi. Noémi lui répondit: Va, ma fille.
And Ruth the Moabitess said unto Na'omi, Let me go, I pray thee, into the field, and glean ears of corn after him in whose eyes I shall find grace. And she said unto her, Go, my daughter.
3 C’est pourquoi elle s’en alla, et elle recueillait les épis derrière les moissonneurs. Or, il arriva que ce champ avait un maître du nom de Booz, qui était de la parenté d’Elimélech.
And she went, and came, and gleaned in the field after the reapers; and the accident happened to her, that it was a part of the field belonging unto Bo'az, who was of the family of Elimelech.
4 Et voilà que lui-même venait de Bethléhem, et il dit aux moissonneurs: Le Seigneur soit avec vous! Ceux-ci lui répondirent: Le Seigneur vous bénisse!
And, behold, Bo'az came from Beth-lechem, and he said unto the reapers, The Lord be with you. And they said unto him, May the Lord bless thee.
5 Alors Booz dit au jeune homme qui était à la tête des moissonneurs: À qui est cette jeune fille?
Then said Bo'az unto his young man that was appointed over the reapers, Whose maiden is this?
6 Il lui répondit: C’est cette Moabite qui est venue avec Noémi du pays de Moab.
And the young man that was appointed over the reapers answered and said, It is a Moabitish maiden that is returned with Na'omi out of the fields of Moab;
7 Elle a demandé de recueillir les épis restants, en suivant les traces des moissonneurs; et depuis le matin jusqu’à présent elle est dans le champ, et elle n’est pas même retournée un moment dans sa maison.
And she said, Let me glean, I pray you, and gather among the sheaves after the reapers: so she came, and hath remained ever from the morning even until now; it is but a little while that she hath sat down in the house.
8 Et Booz dit à Ruth: Ecoute, ma fille, ne va point dans un autre champ pour glaner, et ne t’éloigne point de ce lieu; mais joins-toi à mes jeunes filles.
Then said Bo'az unto Ruth, Hearest thou not, my daughter? Go not to glean in another field, neither go away from this; but keep close company with my own maidens.
9 Et là où elles moissonneront, suis-les. Car j’ai commandé à mes serviteurs que personne ne t’inquiète; et même si tu as soif, va où sont les vases, et bois de l’eau dont mes serviteurs eux-mêmes boivent.
Let thy eyes be on the field which they may reap, and go thou after them; behold, I have charged the young men that they shall not touch thee: and when thou art thirsty, go unto the vessels, and drink of that which the young men may draw.
10 Ruth, tombant sur sa face, et se prosternant contre terre, lui dit: D’où me vient cela, que j’ai trouvé grâce devant vos yeux, et que vous daigniez me connaître, moi femme étrangère?
Thereupon she fell on her face, and bowed herself to the ground, and said unto him, Why have I found grace in thy eyes, that thou shouldst take cognizance of me, seeing I am but a stranger?
11 Booz lui répondit: On m’a rapporté tout ce que tu as fait pour ta belle-mère après la mort de ton mari, et que tu as quitté tes parents et la terre où tu es née, et que tu es venue chez un peuple, qu’auparavant tu ne connaissais pas.
But Bo'az answered and said unto her, It hath fully been told me, all that thou hast done unto thy mother-in-law after the death of thy husband; and how thou hast forsaken thy father and thy mother, and the land of thy birth, and art come unto a people which thou knewest not yesterday or the day before.
12 Que le Seigneur te rende selon tes œuvres et que tu reçoives une pleine récompense du Seigneur Dieu d’Israël, vers lequel tu es venue, et sous les ailes duquel tu t’es réfugiée.
May the Lord recompense thy work, and may thy reward be complete from the Lord the God of Israel, under whose wings thou art come to seek shelter.
13 Ruth répondit: J’ai trouvé grâce devant vos yeux, mon seigneur, qui m’avez consolée, et vous avez parlé au cœur de votre servante, de moi qui ne suis pas semblable à vos servantes.
Then said she, Let me find grace in thy eyes, my lord; for thou hast comforted me, and because thou hast spoken [kindly] unto the heart of thy handmaid, though I be not like one of thy handmaids.
14 Booz lui dit encore: Quand ce sera l’heure de manger, viens ici, et mange du pain, et trempe ton morceau dans le vinaigre. C’est pourquoi elle s’assit au côté des moissonneurs, prit des grains rôtis pour elle, mangea, se rassasia et emporta le reste.
And Bo'az said unto her, At mealtime come near hither, and eat of the bread, and dip thy morsel in the vinegar. And she seated herself beside the reapers: and he reached her parched corn, and she ate, and was satisfied, and had some left.
15 Et ensuite elle se leva pour recueillir les épis, selon la coutume. Or, Booz ordonna à ses serviteurs, disant: Quand elle voudrait moissonner avec vous, ne l’empêchez point:
Then did she arise to glean: and Bo'az commanded his young men, saying, Even between the sheaves let her glean, and do not cause her to feel any shame;
16 Et même jetez de vos gerbes à dessein, et faites en sorte qu’il en reste, afin qu’elle glane sans honte, et que lorsqu’elle glanera, personne ne la reprenne.
And ye shall also draw out some for her from the bundles on purpose, and leave it, that she may glean it, and ye shall not rebuke her.
17 Elle glana donc dans le champ jusqu’au soir; puis frappant d’une verge ce qu’elle avait recueilli et le secouant, elle trouva environ la mesure d’un éphi, c’est-à-dire trois boisseaux.
So she gleaned in the field until the evening; and when she beat out what she had gleaned, it was about an ephah of barley.
18 Et, les portant, elle retourna à la ville, et les montra à sa belle-mère; de plus elle lui présenta et lui donna le reste de ce qu’elle avait mangé et dont elle s’était rassasiée.
And she took it up, and she went into the city; and her mother-in-law saw what she had gleaned; and she brought forth and gave to her what she had left over after she was satisfied.
19 Et sa belle-mère lui demanda: Où as-tu glané aujourd’hui, et où as-tu travaillé? Qu’il soit béni, celui qui a eu pitié de toi! Et elle lui indiqua chez qui elle avait travaillé; et elle lui dit que cet homme s’appelait du nom de Booz.
And her mother-in-law said unto her, Where hast thou gleaned today? and where hast thou wrought? may he that took cognizance of thee be blessed. And she told her mother-in-law with whom she had wrought, and said, The name of the man with whom I wrought today is Bo'az.
20 Noémi lui répondit: Béni soit-il du Seigneur, puisque la même bonté qu’il avait eue pour les vivants, il l’a gardée aussi pour les morts. Et de nouveau, elle dit: Cet homme est notre parent.
Then said Na'omi unto her daughter-in-law, Blessed be he unto the Lord, who hath not withheld his kindness from the living and from the dead. And Na'omi said unto her, The man is nearly related unto us, he is one of our next kinsmen.
21 Alors Ruth: Il m’a, dit-elle, ordonné encore ceci, de me joindre à ses moissonneurs, jusqu’à ce que tous les grains seraient recueillis.
And Ruth the Moabitess said, He hath also said unto me, Thou shalt keep close company with my young men, until they have ended all my harvest.
22 Sa belle-mère lui répondit: Il vaut mieux, ma fille, que tu sortes avec ses jeunes filles pour moissonner, afin que personne ne t’inquiète dans le champ d’un autre.
Then said Na'omi unto Ruth her daughter-in-law, It is good, my daughter, that thou go out with his maidens, and that men may not meet with thee in any other field.
23 C’est pourquoi elle se joignit aux jeunes filles de Booz, et moissonna avec elles, jusqu’à ce que les orges et le froment eussent été serrés dans les greniers.
So she kept close company with the maidens of Bo'az in gleaning until the end of the barley-harvest and of the wheat-harvest; and she dwelt with her mother-in-law.
