Romains 14
1 Accueillez celui qui est faible dans la foi, sans disputer sur les opinions,
HIM that is weak in faith take by the hand, and enter not into niceties of disputes.
2 Car l’un croit qu’il peut manger de tout, et l’autre, qui est faible dans la foi, ne mange que des légumes.
One man indeed thinketh he may eat all meats; another, who is weak, eateth vegetables.
3 Que celui qui mange ne méprise pas celui qui ne mange point, et que celui qui ne mange point ne condamne pas celui qui mange; car Dieu l’a accueilli.
Let not him that eateth despise him that eateth not, and let not him that eateth not judge him that eateth; for God hath accepted him.
4 Qui es-tu, toi qui juges le serviteur d’autrui? C’est pour son maître qu’il demeure ferme ou qu’il tombe; mais il demeurera ferme, parce que Dieu est puissant pour l’affermir.
Who art thou that judgest another man’s servant? To his own master he standeth or falleth; but he shall be established: for God is able to establish him.
5 L’un fait différence entre un jour et un jour; un autre les juge tous pareils: que chacun abonde en son sens.
One man judgeth one day different from another day: another judgeth every day alike. Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind.
6 Celui qui distingue les jours, les distingue en vue du Seigneur. Celui qui mange, mange en vue du Seigneur, car il rend grâces à Dieu; et celui qui ne mange point, ne mange point en vue du Seigneur, et il rend aussi grâces à Dieu.
He that observeth a day, to the Lord he observeth it; and he that observeth not a day, to the Lord he doth not observe it. He that eateth, to the Lord he eateth, for he giveth thanks to God; and he that eateth not, to the Lord he eateth not, and giveth thanks to God.
7 Car aucun de nous ne vit pour soi, et nul ne meurt pour soi.
For no one of us liveth to himself, and no one dieth to himself.
8 Mais, soit que nous vivions, nous vivons pour le Seigneur; soit que nous mourions, nous mourons pour le Seigneur. Soit donc que nous vivions, soit que nous mourions, nous sommes au Seigneur.
For whether we live, to the Lord we live, and whether we die, to the Lord we die; whether therefore we live, or whether we die, we are the Lord’s.
9 Car c’est pour cela que le Christ est mort et qu’il est ressuscité, afin de dominer et sur les morts et sur les vivants.
For to this end Christ both died, and rose again, and revived, that he might be the Lord both of the dead and of the living.
10 Toi donc, pourquoi juges-tu ton frère? ou pourquoi méprises-tu ton frère? Car nous paraîtrons tous devant le tribunal du Christ;
But thou, why judgest thou thy brother? And thou, why dost thou disparage thy brother? for we must all appear before the judgment-seat of Christ.
11 Il est écrit, en effet: Je vis, moi, dit le Seigneur; tout genou fléchira devant moi, et toute langue confessera Dieu.
For it is written, “As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall make confession to God.”
12 Ainsi chacun de nous rendra compte à Dieu pour soi.
Assuredly then every one of us shall give an account of himself to God.
13 Ne nous jugeons donc plus les uns les autres; mais songez plutôt à ne pas mettre devant votre frère une pierre d’achoppement ou de scandale.
Let us therefore no more judge one another; but judge this rather, that no one put a stumbling-block or offence before his brother.
14 Je sais, et j’ai cette foi dans le Seigneur Jésus, que rien n’est impur de soi-même, et qu’il n’est impur qu’à celui qui l’estime impur.
I know, and am convinced by the Lord Jesus, that there is nothing unclean of itself; but to him who thinketh any thing to be unclean, to him it is unclean.
15 Mais si, à cause de ce que tu manges, ton frère est contristé, dès lors tu ne marches pas selon la charité. Ne perds pas, à cause de ce que tu manges, celui pour qui le Christ est mort.
But if by meat thy brother is grieved, thou walkest no more according to love. Do not by thy meat destroy him for whom Christ died.
16 Qu’on ne blasphème donc point le bien dont nous jouissons.
Let not therefore food, which is good for you, give occasion of reproach.
17 Car le royaume de Dieu n’est ni le manger ni le boire; mais il est justice, paix et joie dans l’Esprit-Saint.
For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink, but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost.
18 Or celui qui en ces choses sert ainsi le Christ plaît à Dieu, et est approuvé des hommes.
For he who in these things is the servant of Christ, is acceptable to God, and approved of men.
19 C’est pourquoi, recherchons ce qui tient à la paix, et observons à l’égard les uns des autres ce qui contribue à l’édification.
Well then, let us earnestly pursue the things that conduce to peace, and the things which are for mutual edification.
20 Ne va pas, pour le manger, détruire l’œuvre de Dieu. À la vérité, tout est pur; mais c’est mal à l’homme de manger avec scandale.
For the sake of meat destroy not the work of God. All things indeed are clean; but it is an evil thing for a man to eat, giving offence.
21 Il est bon de ne point manger de chair, de ne point boire de vin, et ne rien faire de ce qui choque, scandalise, ou affaiblit ton frère.
It is laudable not to eat flesh, or to drink wine, nor to do any thing whereby thy brother is stumbled, or scandalized, or weakened.
22 As-tu la foi, aie-la en toi-même devant Dieu. Heureux celui qui ne se condamne pas lui-même en ce qu’il approuve.
Hast thou faith, exercise it before God within thyself. Blessed is the man who condemneth not himself in that which he alloweth.
23 Mais celui qui fait une distinction et qui mange est condamné, parce qu’il n’est pas de bonne foi. Or tout ce qui ne se fait pas de bonne foi est péché.
But he that maketh a difference between meats, if he eat is condemned, because he doth it not by faith: for every thing which is not of faith, is sin.
