Apocalypse 17
1 Alors vint un des sept anges qui avaient les sept coupes, et il me parla, disant: Viens, je te montrerai la condamnation de la grande prostituée, qui est assise sur les grandes eaux,
And there came one of the seven angels, that had the seven vials, and talked with me and said, Come hither, and I will shew thee the judgement of the great harlot, that sitteth upon many waters:
2 Avec laquelle les rois de la terre se sont corrompus, et les habitants de la terre se sont enivrés du vin de sa prostitution.
with whom the kings of the earth have committed whoredom, and the inhabitants of the earth have been made drunk with the wine of her whoredom.
3 Il me transporta en esprit dans un désert, et je vis une femme assise sur une bête de couleur d’écarlate, pleine de noms de blasphème, ayant sept têtes et dix cornes.
And he transported me in spirit into the wilderness, and I saw a woman sitting on a scarlet-coloured beast, full of blasphemous names, having seven heads and ten horns.
4 La femme était vêtue de pourpre et d’écarlate, parée d’or, de pierres précieuses et de perles, ayant en sa main une coupe d’or pleine de l’abomination et de l’impureté de sa fornication,
And the woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet, and adorned with gold and precious stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand, full of the stench and filth of her whoredom.
5 Et sur son front un nom écrit: Mystère; la grande Babylone, la mère des fornications et des abominations de la terre.
And upon her forehead was a name written, "Mystery, Babylon the great, the mother of harlots, and of the abominations of the earth."
6 Et je vis cette femme enivrée du sang des saints et du sang des martyrs de Jésus. Or je fus surpris, quand je l’eus vue, d’un grand étonnement.
And I saw the woman drunk with the blood of the saints, and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus: and when I saw her, I wondered with great amazement.
7 Alors l’ange me dit: Pourquoi t’étonnes-tu? C’est moi qui te dirai le mystère de la femme et de la bête qui la porte, et qui a sept têtes et dix cornes.
And the angel said unto me, Why dost thou wonder? I will tell thee the mystery of the woman and of the beast that carrieth her, which hath the seven heads and ten horns.
8 La bête que tu as vue, a été et elle n’est plus; elle doit monter de l’abîme, et elle ira à la perdition, et les habitants de la terre (dont les noms ne sont pas écrits dans le livre de vie dès la fondation du monde) seront dans l’étonnement, en voyant la bête qui était et qui n’est plus. The beast, which thou sawest, was, and is not; but will rise out of the abyss, and go into perdition: and they that dwell on the earth (whose names are not written on the book of life from the foundation of the world) shall wonder, when they behold the beast that was, and is not, and yet is to be. (Abyssos g12)
9 Or en voici le sens, lequel renferme de la sagesse: Les sept têtes sont sept montagnes, sur lesquelles la femme est assise; ce sont aussi sept rois.
To this the mind that hath wisdom will attend: for the seven heads are seven hills, on which the woman sitteth.
10 Cinq sont tombés; un existe, et l’autre n’est pas encore venu; et quand il sera venu, il faut qu’il demeure peu de temps.
And there are seven kings: five are fallen, one is, and another is not yet come; and when he cometh, he is to continue but a little while.
11 Et la bête qui était et qui n’est plus est la huitième; elle est des sept, et elle va à la perdition.
And the beast that was, and is not, he is the eighth, and is as one of the seven, and goeth into perdition.
12 Les dix cornes que tu as vues sont dix rois qui n’ont pas encore reçu leur royaume; mais ils recevront la puissance comme rois pour une heure après la bête.
And the ten horns, which thou sawest, are ten kings, who have not yet received a kingdom, but shall receive power as kings for a limited time with the beast.
13 Ceux-ci ont un même dessein, et ils donneront leur force et leur puissance à la bête.
These are of one mind, and will give their power and authority to the beast.
14 Ceux-ci combattront contre l’Agneau, mais l’Agneau les vaincra, parce qu’il est Seigneur des Seigneurs et Roi des rois; et ceux qui sont avec lui sont appelés élus et fidèles.
These will make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb shall overcome them: for He is Lord of lords, and King of kings: and those that are with Him are called, and chosen, and faithful.
15 Il me dit encore: Les eaux que tu as vues, et où la prostituée est assise, sont des peuples, des nations et des langues.
And he said unto me, The waters which thou sawest, whereon the harlot sitteth, are people, and multitudes, and nations, and tongues.
16 Les dix cornes que tu as vues dans la bête, ce sont ceux qui haïront la prostituée; ils la réduiront à la désolation et à la nudité; ils la mettront à nu, ils dévoreront ses chairs, et ils les brûleront dans le feu.
And the ten horns which thou sawest upon the beast, these shall hate the whore, and shall make her desolate and naked, and shall devour her flesh, and burn her with fire.
17 Car Dieu leur a mis dans le cœur de faire ce qui lui plaît; de donner leur royaume à la bête, jusqu’à ce que soient accomplies les paroles de Dieu.
For God hath put it into their hearts to do according to his mind, and to perform one and the same purpose, even to give their kingdoms to the beast, till the words of God be accomplished.
18 Et la femme que tu as vue est la grande ville qui règne sur les rois de la terre.
And the woman which thou sawest is that great city, which beareth rule over the kings of the earth.
