Proverbes 5
1 Mon fils, sois attentif à ma sagesse, et à ma prudence incline ton oreille,
My son, attend unto my wisdom; to my understanding incline thou thy ear:
2 Afin que tu veilles sur tes pensées, et que tes lèvres conservent la discipline. Prends garde à l’artifice fallacieux de la femme;
That thou mayest observe discretion, and that thy lips may keep knowledge.
3 Car c’est un rayon distillant le miel, que les lèvres d’une prostituée, et plus brillant que l’huile est son gosier;
For as of fine honey drop the lips of an adulterous woman, and smoother than oil is her palate;
4 Mais ses derniers moments sont amers comme l’absinthe, et perçants comme un glaive à deux tranchants.
But her end is bitter as wormwood, it is sharp as a two-edged sword.
Her feet go down to death, her steps take firm hold on the nether world: (Sheol h7585)
6 Ils ne marchent point par le sentier de la vie: ses pas sont incertains, et on ne peut les découvrir.
So that she cannot balance the path of life; her tracks are unsteady, and she knoweth it not.
7 Maintenant donc, mon fils, écoute-moi, et ne t’écarte pas des paroles de ma bouche.
And now, O ye children, hearken unto me, and depart not from the sayings of my mouth.
8 Eloigne d’elle ta voie, et ne t’approche pas de la porte de sa maison.
Remove far from her thy way, and come not nigh to the door of her house;
9 Ne donne pas à des étrangers ton honneur, et tes années à un cruel vengeur,
That thou mayest not give up unto others thy vigor, and thy years unto the cruel;
10 De peur que des étrangers ne soient comblés de tes biens, et que tes travaux n’aillent dans la maison d’un autre,
That strangers may not satisfy themselves with thy strength, and with thy exertions, in the house of an alien:
11 Et que tu ne gémisses à la fin, quand tu auras consumé tes chairs et ton corps; et que tu ne dises:
While thou moanest at thy end, when thy flesh and thy body are coming to their end,
12 D’où vient que j’ai déteste la discipline, et qu’aux remontrances n’a pas acquiescé mon cœur,
And thou sayest, How have I hated correction, and how hath my heart rejected reproof;
13 Et que je n’ai pas écouté la voix de ceux qui m’instruisaient, et qu’à mes maîtres je n’ai pas incliné mon oreille?
While I hearkened not to the voice of my instructors, and to my teachers I inclined not my ear;
14 J’ai été presque dans toute sorte de maux au milieu de l’assemblée et de la réunion.
But little more was wanting, and I had been in all [kinds of] unhappiness in the midst of the congregation and assembly.
15 Bois de l’eau de ta citerne, et de l’eau vive de ton puits:
Drink water out of thy own cistern, and running waters out of thy own well.
16 Que les cours de tes fontaines soient dirigés au dehors; et dans les rues partage tes eaux.
So will thy springs overflow abroad; and in the open streets will be thy rivulets of water;
17 Possède-les seul, et que des étrangers n’y aient point de part avec toi.
They will be thy own only, and not those of strangers with thee.
18 Que ta source soit bénie; et réjouis-toi avec la femme de ta jeunesse;
Thy fountain will be blessed: and rejoice with the wife of thy youth, —
19 Qu’elle te soit une biche très chère, un très agréable faon; que ses charmes t’enivrent en tout temps; et que dans son amour soit toujours ta joie.
The lovely gazelle and the graceful chamois: let her bosom satisfy thee abundantly at all times; with her love be thou ravished continually.
20 Pourquoi, mon fils, seras-tu séduit par une étrangère, et reposeras-tu dans le sein d’une autre?
And why wilt thou, my son, be ravished with an adulteress, and embrace the bosom of an alien woman?
21 Le Seigneur regarde les voies de l’homme, et il considère tous ses pas.
For before the eyes of the Lord are the ways of man, and all his tracks doth he weigh in the balance.
22 Ses iniquités saisissent l’impie, et par les liens de ses propres péchés, il est enchaîné.
His own iniquities will truly catch the wicked, and with the cords of his sin will he be held firmly.
23 Il mourra, parce qu’il n’a pas eu de discipline, et c’est par l’excès de sa folie qu’il sera trompé.
He will indeed die for want of correction; and through the abundance of his folly will he sink into error.
