Proverbes 4
1 Écoutez, mes fils, la discipline d’un père, et soyez attentifs, afin que vous connaissiez la prudence.
Hear, ye children, the correction of a father, and attend to know understanding.
2 Je vous ferai un don excellent; n’abandonnez pas ma loi.
For good information do I give you: my teaching must ye not forsake.
3 Car moi aussi j’ai été un fils chéri de mon père, et comme un fils unique devant ma mère;
For I was a son unto my father, a tender and an only child before my mother.
4 Et il m’instruisait, et me disait: Que ton cœur reçoive mes paroles, garde mes préceptes et tu vivras.
And he instructed me, and said unto me, Let thy heart grasp firmly my words: observe my commandments and live.
5 Possède la sagesse, possède la prudence: n’oublie pas les paroles de ma bouche et ne t’en écarte pas.
Acquire wisdom, acquire understanding: forget not, and depart not from the sayings of my mouth.
6 Ne rejette pas la sagesse, et elle te gardera: aime-la, et elle te conservera.
Forsake her not, and she will watch over thee: love her, and she will keep thee.
7 Un principe de sagesse est: Mets-toi en possession de la sagesse; et par tout ce que tu possèdes, acquiers la prudence;
The beginning of wisdom is, Acquire wisdom: and with all thy acquisition acquire understanding.
8 Saisis-la, et elle t’exaltera; tu seras glorifié par elle, lorsque tu l’auras embrassée;
Hold her in high esteem, and she will exalt thee: she will bring thee to honor, when thou embracest her.
9 Elle mettra sur ta tête des accroissements de grâces, et elle te couvrira d’une glorieuse couronne.
She will give to thy head a wreath of grace: a crown of ornament will she deliver to thee.
10 Écoute mon fils, et reçois mes paroles, afin que se multiplient pour toi des années de vie.
Hear, O my son, and accept my sayings: and they will increase unto thee the years of life.
11 Je te montrerai la voie de la sagesse: je te conduirai par les sentiers de l’équité;
In the way of wisdom have I instructed thee: I have led thee in the tracks of uprightness.
12 Lorsque tu y seras entré, tes pas ne seront pas resserrés; et, courant, tu ne trouveras pas de pierre d’achoppement.
When thou walkest, thy step shall not be narrowed; and when thou runnest, thou shalt not stumble.
13 Retiens la discipline, ne la rejette pas: garde-la, parce que c’est elle qui est ta vie.
Lay fast hold of correction; let her not go: keep her; for she is thy life.
14 Ne prends pas plaisir aux sentiers des impies, que la voie des méchants ne t’agrée point.
Enter not into the path of the wicked, and step not on the way of the bad.
15 Fuis-la, n’y passe pas: détourne-toi et abandonne-la;
Avoid it, pass not through by it, turn off from it, and pass away.
16 Car ils ne dorment point, s’ils n’ont mal fait; et le sommeil leur est ravi, s’ils n’ont supplanté quelqu’un;
For they sleep not, except they have done evil, and their sleep is robbed away, unless they cause some to stumble.
17 Ils mangent du pain d’impiété, et c’est du vin d’iniquité qu’ils boivent.
For they eat the bread of wickedness; and the wine of violence do they drink.
18 Mais le sentier des justes, comme une lumière éclatante, s’avance et croît jusqu’au jour parfait.
But the path of the righteous is as the early morning light, that shineth more and more brightly until the height of noonday.
19 La voie des impies est ténébreuse; ils ne savent où ils se précipitent.
The way of the wicked is like darkness: they know not against what they stumble.
20 Mon fils, écoute mes discours, et à mes paroles incline ton oreille;
My son, attend to my words, unto my sayings incline thy ear.
21 Qu’elles ne s’éloignent pas de tes yeux, garde-les au milieu de ton cœur;
Let them not slip away from thy eyes: guard them in the midst of thy heart.
22 Car elles sont la vie pour ceux qui les trouvent, et la santé pour toute chair:
For they are life unto every one of those that find them, and to all his body a healing.
23 Garde ton cœur en toute vigilance, parce que c’est de lui que la vie procède.
Above all that is to be guarded, keep thy heart, for out of it are the issues of life.
24 Écarte de toi la bouche perverse; et que des lèvres médisantes soient loin de toi.
Remove from thee frowardness of mouth; and perverseness of lips put away far from thee.
25 Que tes yeux voient ce qui est droit, et que tes paupières précèdent tes pas.
Let thy eyes look right forward, and let thy eyelids see straight out before thee.
26 Dresse un sentier pour tes pieds; et toutes tes voies seront affermies.
Balance well the track of thy foot, and let all thy ways be firmly right.
27 N’incline ni à droite ni à gauche: détourne ton pied du mal; car les voies qui sont à droite, le Seigneur les connaît: mais perverses sont celles qui sont à gauche. Or lui-même rendra droites tes marches, et fera que tes chemins seront en paix.
Turn not to the right hand nor to the left: remove thy foot from evil.
