Proverbes 28
1 L’impie fuit, personne ne le poursuivant; mais le juste comme un lion plein de confiance, sera sans crainte.
Every wicked fleeth when no man pursueth; but the righteous are like the confident young lion.
2 À cause des péchés d’un pays, ses princes sont en grand nombre; mais à cause de la sagesse d’un homme et de sa connaissance des choses qui se disent, la vie du chef sera plus longue.
When there is transgression in a land, it hath many for its princes; but under a man of understanding and knowledge [its] prosperity will long continue.
3 Un homme pauvre qui opprime les pauvres est semblable à une pluie violente qui prépare la famine.
A poor man that oppresseth the indigent is like a sweeping rain which bringeth no bread.
4 Ceux qui abandonnent la loi louent l’impie; ceux qui la gardent s’enflamment contre lui.
They that forsake the law praise the wicked; but such as observe the law contend with them.
5 Les hommes méchants ne pensent pas à ce qui est juste; mais ceux qui recherchent le Seigneur remarquent tout.
Bad men understand not justice; but they that seek the Lord understand all things.
6 Vaut mieux un pauvre qui marche dans sa simplicité qu’un riche qui va dans des chemins tortus,
Better is the poor that walketh in his integrity, than he that is perverse in his ways, though he be rich.
7 Celui qui garde la loi est un fils sage; mais celui qui nourrit des hommes de bonne chère couvre son père de confusion.
Whoso keepeth the law is an intelligent son; but he that is a companion of gluttons bringeth dishonor on his father.
8 Celui qui accumule des richesses par des usures et des intérêts les amasse pour un homme libéral envers les pauvres.
He that increaseth his wealth by interest and usury will gather it for him that will be kind to the poor.
9 Celui qui détourne ses oreilles pour ne pas écouter la loi, sa prière sera exécrable.
When one turneth away his ear so as not to listen to the law, even his prayer becometh an abomination.
10 Celui qui trompe les justes dans une voie mauvaise succombera à sa propre destruction; et les simples posséderont ses biens.
Whoso causeth the upright to go astray on an evil way, will surely fall into his own ditch; but the men of integrity will inherit what is good.
11 Le riche se croit sage; mais le pauvre prudent le pénétrera.
The rich man is wise in his own eyes; but the indigent that hath understanding can search him through.
12 Dans l’exultation des justes est une grande gloire; mais, les impies régnant, c’est la ruine des hommes.
When the righteous exult, there is great splendor; but when the wicked rise up, a man hath to be sought for.
13 Celui qui cache ses crimes ne sera pas dirigé; mais celui qui les confesse et les abandonne obtiendra miséricorde.
He that concealeth his transgressions will not prosper; but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them will obtain mercy.
14 Bienheureux l’homme qui est toujours craintif; mais celui qui est d’un cœur dur tombera dans le mal.
Happy is the man that always dreadeth [to do evil]; but he that hardeneth his heart will fall into unhappiness.
15 Un lion rugissant, un ours affamé, tel est un prince impie sur un peuple pauvre.
As a roaring lion, and a greedy bear, so is a wicked ruler over an indigent people.
16 Un chef manquant de prudence opprimera un grand nombre de personnes par violence; mais celui qui hait l’avarice prolongera ses jours.
The prince that is void of understanding is also a great oppressor; [but] he that hateth unjust gain will prolong his days.
17 L’homme qui fait violence au sang d’une âme, s’il s’enfuit dans une fosse, personne ne le retient.
A man oppressed by the load of having shed human blood will flee even to the pit: let no man hold him.
18 Celui qui marche simplement sera sauvé; celui qui s’avance dans des voies perverses tombera tout d’un coup.
Whoso walketh in integrity will be saved; but he that walketh perversely on two paths, will fall on one.
19 Celui qui travaille sa terre sera rassasié de pain: mais celui qui aspire à l’oisiveté se trouvera dans une détresse complète.
He that tilleth his ground will have plenty of bread; but he that runneth after idle persons will have enough of poverty.
20 Un homme fidèle sera beaucoup loué; mais celui qui se hâte de s’enrichir ne sera pas innocent.
A faithful man will abound with blessings; but he that maketh haste to be rich will not go unpunished.
21 Celui qui dans le jugement a égard à la personne ne fait pas bien: celui-là, même pour une bouchée de pain, abandonne la vérité.
To have respect to persons is not good; because even for a piece of bread will a man transgress.
22 Un homme qui se hâte de s’enrichir, et qui porte envie aux autres, ignore que la détresse lui surviendra.
He that is eager for wealth is a man of an evil eye, and he knoweth not that want will come upon him.
23 Celui qui reprend un homme trouvera grâce ensuite auprès de lui, plus que celui qui le trompe par une langue flatteuse.
He that reproveth a man after [my example] will obtain more grace than he that flattereth with the tongue.
24 Celui qui soustrait quelque chose à son père et à sa mère, et qui dit que ce n’est pas un péché, est participant au crime d’un homicide.
Whoso robbeth his father or his mother, and saith, it is no transgression, —the same is a companion of a destroyer.
25 Celui qui se vante et s’enfle d’orgueil excite des querelles; mais celui qui espère dans le Seigneur sera guéri.
He that hath an insatiable desire stirreth up strife: but he that putteth his trust in the Lord will be abundantly gratified.
26 Celui qui se confie en son cœur est un insensé; mais celui qui marche sagement, celui-là sera sauvé.
He that trusteth in his own sense is a fool; but whoso walketh in wisdom, will ever escape.
27 Celui qui donne au pauvre ne manquera pas; celui qui méprise un suppliant souffrira la pénurie.
He that giveth unto the poor will not have any want; but he that hideth his eyes will have an abundance of curses.
28 Lorsque surgiront les impies, les hommes se cacheront, et, lorsqu’ils périront, les justes se multiplieront.
When the wicked rise, men conceal themselves; but when they perish, the righteous increase.
