Proverbes 21
1 Comme sont les courants des eaux, ainsi est le cœur du roi dans la main du Seigneur: de quelque côté qu’il veut, il le fera tourner.
The king's heart [is] in the hand of the LORD, [as] the rivers of water: he turneth it whithersoever he will.
2 Toute voie de l’homme lui paraît droite; mais le Seigneur pèse les cœurs.
Every way of a man [is] right in his own eyes: but the LORD pondereth the hearts.
3 Faire miséricorde et justice plaît plus au Seigneur que des victimes.
To do justice and judgment [is] more acceptable to the LORD than sacrifice.
4 L’exaltation des yeux vient de la dilatation du cœur: la lampe des impies est péché.
A high look, and a proud heart, [and] the plowing of the wicked, [is] sin.
5 Les pensées d’un homme fort amènent toujours l’abondance; mais tout paresseux est toujours dans la détresse.
The thoughts of the diligent [tend] only to plenteousness; but of every one [that is] hasty only to want.
6 Celui qui amasse des trésors avec une langue de mensonge est vain et sans cœur, et il s’engagera dans les lacs de la mort.
The getting of treasures by a lying tongue [is] a vanity tossed to and fro by them that seek death.
7 Les rapines des impies les entraîneront à leur ruine, parce qu’ils n’ont pas voulu faire justice.
The robbery of the wicked shall destroy them; because they refuse to do judgment.
8 La voie perverse d’un homme est une voie étrangère; mais celui qui est pur, son œuvre est droite.
The way of man [is] froward and strange: but [as for] the pure, his work [is] right.
9 Mieux vaut demeurer sur l’angle d’un toit qu’avec une femme querelleuse et dans une maison commune.
[It is] better to dwell in a corner of the house-top, than with a brawling woman in a wide house.
10 L’âme de l’impie désire le mal; il n’aura pas pitié de son prochain.
The soul of the wicked desireth evil: his neighbor findeth no favor in his eyes.
11 L’homme contagieux étant puni, le simple sera plus sage; et s’il s’attache à un sage, il acquerra de la science.
When the scorner is punished, the simple is made wise: and when the wise is instructed, he receiveth knowledge.
12 Le juste réfléchit à la maison de l’impie, pour retirer les impies du mal.
The righteous [man] wisely considereth the house of the wicked: [but God] overthroweth the wicked for [their] wickedness.
13 Celui qui ferme son oreille au cri du pauvre criera lui-même et ne sera pas exaucé.
Whoever stoppeth his ears at the cry of the poor, he also shall cry himself, but shall not be heard.
14 Un présent secret éteint les colères; et un don glissé dans le sein, l’indignation la plus grande.
A gift in secret pacifieth anger: and a reward in the bosom, strong wrath.
15 C’est une joie pour le juste que de faire justice; mais c’est l’effroi de ceux qui opèrent l’iniquité.
[It is] joy to the just to do judgment: but destruction [shall be] to the workers of iniquity.
16 L’homme qui s’égare de la voie de la doctrine demeurera dans l’assemblée des géants.
The man that wandereth out of the way of understanding shall remain in the congregation of the dead.
17 Celui qui aime les festins sera dans la détresse: celui qui aime le vin et la bonne chère ne s’enrichira pas.
He that loveth pleasure [shall be] a poor man: he that loveth wine and oil shall not be rich.
18 Pour le juste est livré l’impie, et pour les hommes droits l’homme inique.
The wicked [shall be] a ransom for the righteous, and the transgressor for the upright.
19 Mieux vaut habiter dans une terre déserte qu’avec une femme querelleuse et colère.
[It is] better to dwell in the wilderness, than with a contentious and an angry woman.
20 Il y a un trésor précieux et de l’huile dans la demeure du juste; mais l’homme imprudent les dissipera.
[There is] a treasure to be desired, and oil in the dwelling of the wise; but a foolish man spendeth it up.
21 Celui qui recherche la justice et la miséricorde trouvera la vie, la justice et la gloire.
He that followeth after righteousness and mercy findeth life, righteousness, and honor.
22 Le sage a escaladé la cité des forts, et a détruit la force où elle mettait sa confiance.
A wise [man] scaleth the city of the mighty, and casteth down the strength of its confidence.
23 Celui qui garde sa bouche et sa langue garde son âme des angoisses.
Whoever keepeth his mouth and his tongue keepeth his soul from troubles.
24 L’homme superbe et arrogant est appelé ignorant, parce que dans la colère il agit avec orgueil.
Proud [and] haughty scorner [is] his name, who dealeth in proud wrath.
25 Les désirs tuent le paresseux; car ses mains n’ont voulu rien faire.
The desire of the slothful killeth him; for his hands refuse to labor.
26 Tout le jour il souhaite et il désire; mais le juste donnera et il ne cessera de donner.
He coveteth greedily all the day long: but the righteous giveth and spareth not.
27 Les hosties des impies sont abominables, parce qu’elles sont offertes comme fruit de leur crime.
The sacrifice of the wicked [is] abomination: how much more, [when] he bringeth it with a wicked mind?
28 Le témoin menteur périra; l’homme obéissant parlera victoire.
A false witness shall perish: but the man that heareth speaketh constantly.
29 L’homme impie affermit effrontément son visage; mais celui qui est droit corrige sa voie.
A wicked man hardeneth his face: but [as for] the upright, he directeth his way.
30 Il n’y a pas de sagesse, il n’y a pas de prudence, il n’y a pas de conseil contre le Seigneur.
[There is] no wisdom nor understanding nor counsel against the LORD.
31 Le cheval est préparé pour le jour du combat; mais c’est le Seigneur qui donne la victoire.
The horse [is] prepared against the day of battle: but safety [is] from the LORD.
