Proverbes 19
1 Mieux vaut un pauvre qui marche en sa simplicité qu’un riche qui tord ses lèvres et qui est insensé.
Better is the poore that walketh in his vprightnes, then he that abuseth his lips, and is a foole.
2 Où n’est point la science de l’âme, il n’y a pas de bien: et celui qui hâte ses pieds tombera.
For without knowledge the minde is not good, and he that hasteth with his feete, sinneth.
3 La folie de l’homme renverse ses pas; et contre Dieu il brûle de colère en son cœur.
The foolishnesse of a man peruerteth his way, and his heart freateth against the Lord.
4 Les richesses donnent beaucoup de nouveaux amis; mais ceux mêmes qu’avait le pauvre se séparent de lui.
Riches gather many friends: but the poore is separated from his neighbour.
5 Un témoin faux ne sera pas impuni; et celui qui dit des mensonges n’échappera pas.
A false witnes shall not be vnpunished: and he that speaketh lyes, shall not escape.
6 Beaucoup honorent la personne d’un homme puissant, et sont amis de celui qui donne des présents.
Many reuerence the face of the prince, and euery man is friend to him that giueth giftes.
7 Les frères d’un homme pauvre le haïssent: en outre ses amis mêmes se retirent loin de lui. Celui qui court seulement après les paroles n’aura rien.
All the brethren of the poore doe hate him: howe much more will his friends depart farre from him? though hee be instant with wordes, yet they will not.
8 Mais celui qui possède de l’intelligence aime son âme, et celui qui garde la prudence trouvera des biens.
He that possesseth vnderstanding, loueth his owne soule, and keepeth wisdome to finde goodnesse.
9 Un faux témoin ne sera pas impuni, et celui qui dit des mensonges périra.
A false witnes shall not be vnpunished: and he that speaketh lyes, shall perish.
10 À l’insensé ne conviennent pas les délices, ni à l’esclave la domination sur les princes.
Pleasure is not comely for a foole, much lesse for a seruant to haue rule ouer princes.
11 La doctrine d’un homme se connaît à sa patience, et sa gloire est de laisser de côté les choses iniques.
The discretion of man deferreth his anger: and his glory is to passe by an offence.
12 Comme est le rugissement du hon, ainsi est la colère du roi; et comme la rosée qui tombe sur l’herbe, ainsi son hilarité.
The Kings wrath is like the roaring of a lyon: but his fauour is like the dewe vpon ye grasse.
13 La douleur d’un père est un fils insensé; et ce sont des toits continuellement dégouttants qu’une femme querelleuse.
A foolish sonne is the calamitie of his father, and the contentions of a wife are like a continuall dropping.
14 La maison et les richesses sont données par les pères; mais c’est par le Seigneur proprement qu’est donnée une femme prudente.
House and riches are the inheritance of the fathers: but a prudent wife commeth of the Lord.
15 La paresse envoie l’assoupissement; et l’âme indolente aura faim.
Slouthfulnes causeth to fall asleepe, and a deceitfull person shall be affamished.
16 Celui qui garde le commandement garde son âme; mais celui qui néglige sa voie trouvera la mort.
He that keepeth the commandement, keepeth his owne soule: but hee that despiseth his wayes, shall dye.
17 Celui-là prête à intérêt au Seigneur, qui a pitié du pauvre; et il lui rendra son bienfait.
He that hath mercy vpon the poore, lendeth vnto the Lord: and the Lord will recompense him that which he hath giuen.
18 Corrige ton fils, n’en désespère pas; mais à le tuer ne dispose pas ton âme.
Chasten thy sonne while there is hope, and let not thy soule spare for his murmuring.
19 Celui qui est impatient en souffrira du dommage; et s’il prend quelque chose avec violence, il prendra encore autre chose.
A man of much anger shall suffer punishment: and though thou deliuer him, yet wil his anger come againe.
20 Ecoute le conseil et reçois la discipline, afin que tu sois sage dans tes derniers moments.
Heare counsell and receiue instruction, that thou mayest be wise in thy latter ende.
21 Il y a beaucoup de pensées dans le cœur de l’homme; mais la volonté du Seigneur demeurera à jamais.
Many deuises are in a mans heart: but the counsell of the Lord shall stand.
22 L’homme indigent est miséricordieux; et mieux vaut le pauvre que l’homme menteur.
That that is to be desired of a man, is his goodnes, and a poore man is better then a lyer.
23 La crainte du Seigneur conduit à la vie: elle reposera dans l’abondance sans être visitée par le mal.
The feare of the Lord leadeth to life: and he that is filled therewith, shall continue, and shall not be visited with euill.
24 Le paresseux cache sa main sous son aisselle; et il ne la porte pas à sa bouche.
The slouthfull hideth his hand in his bosome, and wil not put it to his mouth againe.
25 L’homme pernicieux ayant été flagellé, l’insensé deviendra plus sage: mais, si tu reprends le sage, il comprendra la discipline.
Smite a scorner, and the foolish wil beware: and reproue the prudent, and he wil vnderstand knowledge.
26 Celui qui afflige son père et met en fuite sa mère est ignominieux et malheureux.
He that destroyeth his father, or chaseth away his mother, is a lewde and shamefull childe.
27 Ne cesse pas mon fils, d’écouter la doctrine; n’ignore pas les paroles de la science.
My sonne, heare no more the instruction, that causeth to erre from ye words of knowledge.
28 Un témoin inique se raille du jugement; et la bouche des impies dévore l’iniquité.
A wicked witnes mocketh at iudgement, and the mouth of ye wicked swalloweth vp iniquitie.
29 Les jugements sont préparés pour les railleurs; et les marteaux pour frapper les corps des insensés.
But iudgements are prepared for the scorners, and stripes for the backe of the fooles.
