Proverbes 10
1 Un fils sage réjouit son père, mais un fils insensé est la tristesse de sa mère.
The Proverbs of Solomon. A wise son maketh a glad father, But a foolish son is the grief of his mother.
2 Des trésors d’impiété ne serviront de rien, mais la justice délivrera de la mort.
Treasures of wickedness do not profit; But righteousness delivereth from death.
3 Le Seigneur n’affligera pas par la famine l’âme du juste, et
The LORD will not suffer the righteous to famish; But he disappointeth the craving of the wicked.
4 La main relâchée a opéré la détresse; mais la main du fort acquiert des richesses. Celui qui s’appuie sur des mensonges se repaît de vents; et celui-là même poursuit des oiseaux qui volent.
He that worketh with a slack hand becometh poor; But the hand of the diligent maketh rich.
5 Celui qui amasse pendant la moisson est un fils sage; mais celui qui ronfle pendant l’été, un fils de confusion.
He that gathereth in summer is a wise son; But he that sleepeth in harvest is a son causing shame.
6 La bénédiction du Seigneur est sur la tête du juste; mais l’iniquité couvre la bouche des impies.
Blessings are upon the head of the just; But the mouth of the wicked concealeth violence.
7 La mémoire du juste sera accompagnée de louanges; mais le nom des impies pourrira.
The memory of the righteous man shall be blessed; But the name of the wicked shall rot.
8 Le sage de cœur accueille les préceptes, l’insensé est déchiré par les lèvres.
He who is wise in heart receiveth precepts; But the foolish talker falleth headlong.
9 Celui qui marche simplement marche sûrement; mais celui qui déprave ses voies sera découvert.
He that walketh uprightly walketh securely; But he that perverteth his ways shall be punished.
10 Celui qui fait signe de l’œil eau sera de la douleur; et l’insensé de lèvres sera frappé.
He that winketh with the eye causeth sorrow; And a foolish talker falleth headlong.
11 C’est une source de vie que la bouche du juste; mais la bouche des impies couvre de l’iniquité.
The mouth of the righteous is a fountain of life; But the mouth of the wicked concealeth violence.
12 La haine suscite des querelles; et la charité couvre toutes les fautes.
Hatred stirreth up strife; But love covereth all offences.
13 Sur les lèvres du sage se trouve la sagesse; et une verge sur le dos de celui qui manque de cœur.
Upon the lips of a man of understanding wisdom is found; But a rod is for the back of him that lacketh understanding.
14 Les sages cachent la science; mais la bouche de l’insensé est proche de la confusion.
Wise men treasure up knowledge; But the mouth of the foolish is destruction close at hand.
15 Le bien du riche est sa ville forte; la crainte des pauvres, c’est leur détresse.
The rich man's wealth is his strong city; The destruction of the poor is their poverty.
16 L’œuvre du juste conduit à la vie; mais le fruit de l’impie, au péché.
The earnings of the righteous minister to life; The revenues of the wicked, to sin.
17 La voie de la vie est à celui qui garde la discipline; mais celui qui néglige les réprimandes s’égare.
He that keepeth instruction is in the path of life; But he that refuseth reproof goeth astray.
18 Les lèvres menteuses cachent de la haine: celui qui profère un outrage est un insensé.
He that hideth hatred hath lying lips; And he that uttereth slander is a fool.
19 Dans une multitude de paroles il n’y aura pas manque de péché; mais celui qui modère ses lèvres est très prudent.
In the multitude of words there wanteth not offence; But he who restraineth his lips is wise.
20 C’est un argent excellent que les lèvres du juste, mais le cœur des impies est de nul prix.
The tongue of the righteous is as choice silver; The understanding of the wicked is of little worth.
21 Les lèvres du juste instruisent un grand nombre d’hommes; mais ceux qui ne sont pas instruits, mourront par un manque de cœur.
The lips of the righteous feed many; But fools die through want of wisdom.
22 La bénédiction du Seigneur fait les riches, et l’affliction ne s’alliera pas à eux.
It is the blessing of the LORD that maketh rich, And he addeth no sorrow with it.
23 C’est comme en se jouant qu’un insensé commet le crime; mais la sagesse est pour l’homme la prudence.
It is as sport to a fool to do mischief; But a man of understanding hath wisdom.
24 Ce que craint l’impie viendra sur lui: l’objet de leur désir sera accordé aux justes.
The fear of the wicked shall come upon him; But the desire of the righteous shall be granted.
25 Comme une tempête qui passe, l’impie ne sera plus; mais le juste est comme un fondement éternel.
When the whirlwind passeth by, the wicked is no more; But the righteous is an everlasting foundation.
26 Comme est le vinaigre aux dents, et la fumée aux yeux, ainsi est le paresseux ta ceux qui l’ont envoyé.
As vinegar to the teeth, and as smoke to the eyes, So is the sluggard to them that send him.
27 La crainte du Seigneur ajoutera des jours à la vie; et les années des impies seront abrégées.
The fear of the LORD prolongeth life; But the years of the wicked shall be shortened.
28 L’attente des justes, c’est la joie: mais l’espérance des impies périra.
The hope of the righteous shall be gladness: But the expectation of the wicked shall come to nothing.
29 C’est la force du simple que la voix du Seigneur; mais aussi l’effroi de ceux qui opèrent le mal.
The way of the LORD is a stronghold for the upright, But destruction for those who do iniquity.
30 Le juste jamais ne sera ébranlé; mais des impies n’habiteront pas sur la terre.
The righteous shall never be moved; But the wicked shall not dwell in the land.
31 La bouche du juste enfantera la sagesse, la langue des dépravés périra.
The mouth of the righteous man yieldeth wisdom; But the perverse tongue shall be cut off.
32 Les lèvres du juste considèrent les choses qui plaisent, et la bouche des impies, les choses perverses.
The lips of the righteous know what is acceptable; But the mouth of the wicked what is perverse.
