Abdias 1

1 Vision d’Abdias. Voici ce que dit le Seigneur Dieu à Edom: [Nous avons entendu une nouvelle venant du Seigneur; et il a envoyé un messager vers les nations: Levez-vous, et levons-nous ensemble contre lui pour le combat].

THE VISION of Obadiah. Thus saith the Lord GOD concerning Edom: We have heard a message from the LORD, and an ambassador is sent among the nations: 'Arise ye, and let us rise up against her in battle.'

2 Voici que je t’ai placé très petit parmi les nations, tu es fort méprisable.

Behold, I make thee small among the nations; thou art greatly despised.

3 L’orgueil de ton cœur t’a élevé, toi habitant dans les fentes des rochers, exaltant ton trône; toi qui dis dans ton cœur: Qui me fera descendre à terre?

The pride of thy heart hath beguiled thee, O thou that dwellest in the clefts of the rock, thy habitation on high; that sayest in thy heart: 'Who shall bring me down to the ground?'

4 Si tu t’élèves comme l’aigle, et que parmi les astres tu poses ton nid, je t’en ferai descendre, dit le Seigneur.

Though thou make thy nest as high as the eagle, and though thou set it among the stars, I will bring thee down from thence, saith the LORD.

5 Si des voleurs, si des brigands étaient entrés chez toi durant la nuit, comment aurais-tu gardé le silence? N’auraient-ils pas volé ce qui leur suffisait? Si des vendangeurs étaient entrés chez toi, est-ce qu’ils ne t’auraient pas laissé au moins une grappe de raisin?

If thieves came to thee, if robbers by night — how art thou cut off! — would they not steal till they had enough? If grape-gatherers came to thee, would they not leave some gleaning grapes?

6 Comment les ennemis ont-ils fouillé Esaü, fureté dans ce qu’il avait de caché?

How is Esau searched out! How are his hidden places sought out!

7 Ils t’ont éconduit jusqu’à la frontière; tous tes alliés se sont joués de toi; les hommes qui vivaient en paix avec toi ont prévalu contre toi; ceux qui mangent ton pain dresseront des embûches sous tes pas; il n’y a pas de prudence en lui.

All the men of thy confederacy have conducted thee to the border; the men that were at peace with thee have beguiled thee, and prevailed against thee; they that eat thy bread lay a snare under thee, in whom there is no discernment.

8 N’est-ce pas en ce jour-là, dit le Seigneur, que je perdrai les sages de l’Idumée et bannirai la prudence de la montagne d’Esaü?

Shall I not in that day, saith the LORD, destroy the wise men out of Edom, and discernment out of the mount of Esau?

9 Et ils craindront, tes braves du midi, que l’homme de la montagne d’Esaü ne périsse.

And thy mighty men, O Teman, shall be dismayed, to the end that every one may be cut off from the mount of Esau by slaughter.

10 À cause de tes meurtres et à cause de ton iniquité contre Jacob ton frère, la confusion te couvrira, et tu périras pour jamais.

For the violence done to thy brother Jacob shame shall cover thee, and thou shalt be cut off for ever.

11 Au jour que tu t’élevais contre lui, quand des ennemis se rendaient maîtres de son armée, et que des étrangers entraient dans ses portes, et que sur Jérusalem ils jetaient le sort, toi aussi tu étais comme l’un d’entre eux.

In the day that thou didst stand aloof, in the day that strangers carried away his substance, and foreigners entered into his gates, and cast lots upon Jerusalem, even thou wast as one of them.

12 Et tu ne mépriseras pas ton frère en son jour malheureux, au jour de son exil, et tu ne te réjouiras pas sur les fils de Juda au jour de leur ruine; et tu ne parleras pas orgueilleusement au jour de l’angoisse.

But thou shouldest not have gazed on the day of thy brother in the day of his disaster, neither shouldest thou have rejoiced over the children of Judah in the day of their destruction; neither shouldest thou have spoken proudly in the day of distress.

13 Et tu n’entreras pas dans la porte de mon peuple au jour de leur ruine; et tu ne les mépriseras pas, toi non plus, au milieu de ses maux, au jour de sa désolation; et tu ne seras pas envoyé contre son armée au jour de sa désolation.

Thou shouldest not have entered into the gate of My people in the day of their calamity; yea, thou shouldest not have gazed on their affliction in the day of their calamity, nor have laid hands on their substance in the day of their calamity.

14 Et tu ne te tiendras pas dans les carrefours, afin de tuer ceux qui fuiront, et tu n’enfermeras pas les restes de ses habitants au jour de la tribulation.

Neither shouldest thou have stood in the crossway, to cut off those of his that escape; neither shouldest thou have delivered up those of his that did remain in the day of distress.

15 Parce que le jour du Seigneur est près d’éclater sur toutes les nations; comme tu as fait, il te sera fait; ce que tu leur as fait, il le fera retomber sur ta tête.

For the day of the LORD is near upon all the nations; as thou hast done, it shall be done unto thee; thy dealing shall return upon thine own head.

16 Car comme vous avez bu sur ma montagne sainte, toutes les nations boiront sans discontinuer; et elles boiront, elles avaleront, et elles seront comme si elles n’étaient point.

For as ye have drunk upon My holy mountain, so shall all the nations drink continually, yea, they shall drink, and swallow down, and shall be as though they had not been.

17 Mais sur la montagne de Sion sera le salut et elle sera sainte: la maison de Jacob possédera ceux qui l’avaient possédée.

But in mount Zion there shall be those that escape, and it shall be holy; and the house of Jacob shall possess their possessions.

18 Et la maison de Jacob sera un feu, et la maison de Joseph une flamme, et la maison d’Esaü une paille; et ils l’embraseront, et ils la dévoreront, et il n’y aura pas de restes de la maison d’Esaü, parce que le Seigneur a parlé.

And the house of Jacob shall be a fire, and the house of Joseph a flame, and the house of Esau for stubble, and they shall kindle in them, and devour them; and there shall not be any remaining of the house of Esau; for the LORD hath spoken.

19 Et ceux qui sont au midi hériteront de la montagne d’Esaü; et ceux qui sont dans les plaines assujettiront les Philistins; et ils posséderont la contrée d’Ephraïm et la contrée de Samarie, et Benjamin possédera Galaad.

And they of the South shall possess the mount of Esau, and they of the Lowland the Philistines; and they shall possess the field of Ephraim, and the field of Samaria; and Benjamin shall possess Gilead.

20 Et les exilés de cette armée des enfants d’Israël posséderont tous les lieux des Chananéens jusqu’à Sarepta; et les exilés de Jérusalem, qui sont sur le Bosphore, posséderont les cités du midi.

And the captivity of this host of the children of Israel, that are among the Canaanites, even unto Zarephath, and the captivity of Jerusalem, that is in Sepharad, shall possess the cities of the South.

21 Et les libérateurs monteront sur la montagne de Sion pour juger la montagne d’Esaü; et le règne sera au Seigneur.

And saviours shall come up on mount Zion to judge the mount of Esau; and the kingdom shall be the LORD'S.
