1 Le Seigneur parla à Moïse dans le désert de Sinaï, à la seconde année après qu’ils furent sortis de la terre d’Egypte, au premier mois, disant:
One year after the Israelis left Egypt, during the month of March, while they were in the Sinai Desert, Yahweh said to Moses/me,
2 Que les enfants d’Israël fassent la Pâque en son temps,
“Tell the Israeli people that they must celebrate the Passover [Festival again].
3 Au quatorzième jour de ce mois, vers le soir, selon toutes ses cérémonies et ses ordonnances.
They must do it on the fourteenth day of this month, early in the evening, and they must obey all the instructions about it [that I gave you previously].”
4 Et Moïse ordonna aux enfants d’Israël qu’ils feraient la Pâque.
So Moses/I told the people what Yahweh had said about celebrating the Passover.
5 Ils la firent en son temps, au quatorzième jour du mois, sur la montagne de Sinaï. Les enfants d’Israël firent selon tout ce qu’avait commandé le Seigneur à Moïse.
The people celebrated it, there in the Sinai Desert, in the evening of the fourteenth day of the month, just as Yahweh had commanded Moses/me.
6 Or voici que quelques-uns, impurs à cause de l’âme d’un homme, et qui ne pouvaient faire la Pâque en ce jour-là, s’approchant de Moïse et d’Aaron,
But some of the Israeli people had touched a corpse, and as a result they had become unfit to celebrate the Passover. So they asked Aaron and Moses/me,
7 Leur dirent: Nous sommes impurs à cause de l’âme d’un homme: pourquoi sommes-nous frustrés de pouvoir offrir l’offrande au Seigneur en son temps parmi les enfants d’Israël?
“It is true that we have touched a corpse. But why should that prevent us from celebrating the Passover Festival and offering sacrifices to Yahweh like everyone else [RHQ]?”
8 Moïse leur répondit: Attendez que je consulte le Seigneur sur ce qu’il ordonnera de vous.
Moses/I replied, “Wait here until I go into the Sacred Tent and find out what Yahweh says about it.”
9 Et le Seigneur parla à Moïse, disant:
[So Moses/I went into the tent and asked Yahweh what he/I should tell the people], and this is what Yahweh said:
10 Dis aux enfants d’Israël: Qu’un homme dans votre nation qui sera impur à cause d’une âme, ou en voyage au loin, fasse la Pâque du Seigneur
“Tell this to the Israeli people: If any of you or your descendants touch a corpse and as a result become unacceptable to me, or if you are away from home on a long trip [at the time to celebrate the Passover], you will still be permitted to celebrate it.
11 Au second mois, au quatorzième jour du mois, vers le soir; c’est avec des azymes et des laitues sauvages qu’il la mangera;
But you must celebrate it exactly one month later, early in the evening of the fourteenth day of that month. Eat the meat of the lamb for the Passover Festival with bread that is baked without yeast and eat bitter herbs.
12 Il n’en laissera rien jusque au matin et il n’en rompra point les os: il observera tout le rite de la Pâque.
Do not leave any of it until the next morning. And do not break any of the lamb’s bones. Obey all the regulations about celebrating the Passover.
13 Mais si quelqu’un est même pur, et n’est point en voyage, et que cependant il ne fasse point la Pâque, cette âme sera exterminée du milieu de ses peuples; parce qu’il n’a pas offert de sacrifice au Seigneur en son temps: il portera lui-même son péché.
But if any of you has not done anything that would make you unfit to celebrate the Passover Festival, and you are not away from home on a long trip, and you do not sacrifice to me at the proper time, you will no longer be allowed to associate with my people. (You will be punished/I will punish you).
14 Un voyageur aussi et un étranger, s’ils se trouvent chez vous, feront la Pâque du Seigneur selon ses cérémonies et ses ordonnances. Ce sera un précepte parmi vous, tant pour l’étranger que pour l’indigène.
Foreigners who live among you may also celebrate the Passover Festival, if they obey all my commands concerning it.”
15 Donc au jour que fut dressé le tabernacle, la nuée le couvrit. Mais depuis le soir, il y eut sur la tente comme une espèce de feu jusqu’au matin.
On the day that the Sacred Tent was set up, a cloud covered it. From the time that the sun set until the time that the sun rose [the next day], the cloud resembled a [huge] fire. And that is what happened every day [that we/the Israelis were in the desert].
16 Ainsi arrivait-il toujours: pendant le jour la nuée couvrait le tabernacle, et pendant la nuit, comme une espèce de feu.
17 Et lorsque la nuée qui couvrait le tabernacle était enlevée, les enfants d’Israël partaient; et dans le lieu où elle s’arrêtait, là ils campaient.
When the cloud rose up and started to move [to a new location], we/they followed it. When the cloud stopped, we/the Israelis stopped there and set up their tents.
18 Au commandement du Seigneur ils partaient, et à son commandement ils dressaient le tabernacle. Pendant tous les jours que la nuée se tenait sur le tabernacle, ils demeuraient dans le même lieu.
We/They traveled when Yahweh, [by causing the cloud to move or stop], signaled to us/them when to move and when to stop. When the cloud stayed over the Sacred Tent, we/the Israelis stayed at that place.
19 Et s’il arrivait qu’elle demeurât longtemps sur lui, les enfants d’Israël étaient en observation du Seigneur, et partaient pas,
Sometimes the cloud stayed over the tent for a long time, so when that happened, we/they did not travel.
20 Autant de jours que la nuée était sur le tabernacle. Au commandement du Seigneur, ils dressaient les tentes, et à son commandement, ils les enlevaient.
Sometimes the cloud remained over the tent for only a few days. We/The people stopped and set up our/their tents as Yahweh commanded us/them, and we/they traveled [to a new location] when Yahweh commanded us/them to do that.
21 Si la nuée restait depuis le soir jusqu’au matin, et qu’aussitôt le point du jour elle quittât le tabernacle, ils partaient: et si après un jour et une nuit elle se retirait, ils détendaient les tentes.
Sometimes the cloud stayed in one place for only one day. When that happened, when the cloud rose up [into the sky] the next morning, then we/they traveled. Whenever the cloud moved, during the day or during the night, we/they traveled.
22 Mais si elle était deux jours, ou un mois ou plus longtemps sur le tabernacle, les enfants d’Israël demeuraient dans le même lieu et ne partaient pas; mais dès qu’elle s’était retirée, ils levaient le camp.
If the cloud stayed over the Sacred Tent for two days, or for a month, or for a year, during that time we/they stayed where we/they were. But when the cloud rose up [into the sky], we/they started to travel.
23 C’était sur la parole du Seigneur qu’ils plantaient les tentes, et sur sa parole qu’ils partaient: et ils étaient en observation du Seigneur, selon son commandement par l’entremise de Moïse.
When Yahweh commanded us/them to [stop and] set up our/their tents, we/they did that. When he told us/them to move, we/they moved. We/They did whatever Yahweh told Moses/me that we/they should do.
