1 Le Seigneur parla encore à Moïse, disant:
And Jehovah speaketh unto Moses, saying,
2 Ordonne aux enfants d’Israël qu’ils jettent hors du camp tout lépreux, celui qui a la gonorrhée et celui qui a été souillé à cause d’un mort:
'Command the sons of Israel, and they send out of the camp every leper, and every one with an issue, and every one defiled by a body;
3 Que ce soit un homme ou une femme, jetez-les hors du camp, pour ne pas qu’ils le souillent, puisque j’habite avec vous.
from male unto female ye do send out; unto the outside of the camp ye do send them; and they defile not their camps in the midst of which I do tabernacle.'
4 Et les enfants d’Israël firent ainsi, et ils les jetèrent hors du camp, comme avait dit le Seigneur à Moïse.
And the sons of Israel do so, and they send them out unto the outside of the camp; as Jehovah hath spoken unto Moses so have the sons of Israel done.
5 Le Seigneur parla encore à Moïse, disant:
And Jehovah speaketh unto Moses, saying,
6 Dis aux enfants d’Israël: Un homme ou une femme, lorsqu’ils auront commis quelqu’un des péchés, qui ont coutume d’arriver aux hommes, et que par négligence, ils auront transgressé le commandement du Seigneur, et auront failli,
'Speak unto the sons of Israel, Man or woman, when they do any of the sins of man, by committing a trespass against Jehovah, and that person [is] guilty,
7 Confesseront leur péché, et rendront la somme même, et la cinquième partie par-dessus, à celui contre lequel ils auront péché.
and they have confessed their sin which they have done, then he hath restored his guilt in its principal, and its fifth is adding to it, and hath given [it] to him in reference to whom he hath been guilty.
8 Mais s’il n’y a personne qui puisse recevoir, ils la donneront au Seigneur, et elle appartiendra au prêtre, outre le bélier qui est offert pour l’expiation, afin que l’hostie soit propitiatoire.
'And if the man have no redeemer to restore the guilt to, the guilt which is restored [is] Jehovah's, the priest's, apart from the ram of the atonements, whereby he maketh atonement for him.
9 Toutes les prémices aussi qu’offrent les enfants d’Israël, appartiennent au prêtre;
'And every heave-offering of all the holy things of the sons of Israel, which they bring near to the priest, becometh his;
10 Et tout ce qui est offert au sanctuaire par chacun d’eux, et qui est remis aux mains du prêtre, lui appartiendra,
and any man's hallowed things become his; that which any man giveth to the priest becometh his.'
11 Le Seigneur parla encore à Moïse, disant:
And Jehovah speaketh unto Moses, saying,
12 Parle aux enfants d’Israël, et tu leur diras: Un homme dont la femme aura fait une faute, et méprisant son mari,
'Speak unto the sons of Israel, and thou hast said unto them, When any man's wife turneth aside, and hath committed against him a trespass,
13 Aura dormi avec un autre homme, en sorte que son mari n’ait pu la découvrir, et que l’adultère soit caché, et qu’elle ne puisse pas être convaincue par des témoins, parce qu’elle n’a pas été trouvée dans le crime;
and a man hath lain with her [with] the seed of copulation, and it hath been hid from the eyes of her husband, and concealed, and she hath been defiled, and there is no witness against her, and she hath not been caught,
14 Si un esprit de jalousie excite cet homme contre sa femme, qui est souillée, ou accusée par un faux soupçon,
and a spirit of jealousy hath passed over him, and he hath been jealous of his wife, and she hath been defiled; — or, a spirit of jealousy hath passed over him, and he hath been jealous of his wife, and she hath not been defiled —
15 Il l’amènera au prêtre, et offrira une offrande pour elle, la dixième partie d’une mesure de farine d’orge: il ne répandra point d’huile par-dessus, et il n’y mettra point d’encens, parce que c’est un sacrifice de jalousie, et une oblation pour découvrir un adultère.
'Then hath the man brought in his wife unto the priest, and he hath brought in her offering for her, a tenth of the ephah of barley meal, he doth not pour on it oil, nor doth he put on it frankincense, for it [is] a present of jealousy, a present of memorial, causing remembrance of iniquity.
16 Le prêtre l’offrira donc et la présentera devant le Seigneur;
'And the priest hath brought her near, and hath caused her to stand before Jehovah,
17 Et il prendra de l’eau sainte dans un vase de terre, et il y jettera un peu de terre du pavé du tabernacle.
and the priest hath taken holy water in an earthen vessel, and of the dust which is on the floor of the tabernacle doth the priest take, and hath put [it] into the water,
18 Et lorsque la femme sera debout en la présence du Seigneur, il lui découvrira la tête, et lui posera sur les mains le sacrifice du souvenir, et l’oblation de la jalousie: mais lui-même tiendra les eaux très amères, sur lesquelles il a accumulé les malédictions avec exécration;
and the priest hath caused the woman to stand before Jehovah, and hath uncovered the woman's head, and hath given into her hands the present of the memorial, it [is] a present of jealousy, and in the hand of the priest are the bitter waters which cause the curse.
19 Et il l’adjurera, et il lui dira: Si un homme étranger n’a pas dormi avec toi, et si tu n’as pas été souillée, le lit de ton mari déserté, elles ne te nuiront point ces eaux très amères sur lesquelles j’ai accumulé les malédictions.
'And the priest hath caused her to swear, and hath said unto the woman, If no man hath lain with thee, and if thou hast not turned aside [to] uncleanness under thy husband, be free from these bitter waters which cause the curse;
20 Si, au contraire, tu t’es détournée de ton mari, et si tu as été souillée et as été avec un autre homme,
and thou, if thou hast turned aside under thy husband, and if thou hast been defiled, and any man doth give his copulation to thee besides thy husband —
21 Tu seras sous le poids de ces malédictions: Que le Seigneur te donne en malédiction et en exemple à tous parmi son peuple; qu’il fasse pourrir ta cuisse, et que s’enflant, ton sein se rompe.
(then the priest hath caused the woman to swear with an oath of execration, and the priest hath said to the woman) — Jehovah doth give thee for an execration, and for a curse, in the midst of thy people, in Jehovah's giving thy thigh to fall, and thy belly to swell,
22 Qu’elles entrent dans ton ventre ces eaux maudites, et que, ton sein s’enflant, ta cuisse se pourrisse. Et la femme répondra: Amen, amen.
and these waters which cause the curse have gone into thy bowels, to cause the belly to swell, and the thigh to fall; and the woman hath said, Amen, Amen.
23 Et le prêtre écrira sur le livre ces malédictions, puis il les effacera avec les eaux très amères, sur lesquelles il a accumulé les malédictions,
'And the priest hath written these execrations in a book, and hath blotted [them] out with the bitter waters,
24 Et il les lui donnera à boire. Lorsqu’elle les aura bues,
and hath caused the woman to drink the bitter waters which cause the curse, and the waters which cause the curse have entered into her for bitter things.
25 Le prêtre prendra de sa main le sacrifice de jalousie et l’élèvera devant le Seigneur, puis il le posera sur l’autel, de telle sorte seulement, qu’auparavant
'And the priest hath taken out of the hand of the woman the present of jealousy, and hath waved the present before Jehovah, and hath brought it near unto the altar;
26 Il prenne une poignée du sacrifice qui est offert, et qu’il le brûle sur l’autel, et qu’ainsi il donne à boire à la femme les eaux très amères.
and the priest hath taken a handful of the present, its memorial, and hath made perfume on the altar, and afterwards doth cause the woman to drink the water:
27 Lorsqu’elle les aura bues, si elle a été souillée, et si, son mari méprisé, elle est coupable d’adultère, les eaux de malédiction la pénétreront; et son ventre s’étant enflé, sa cuisse se pourrira; et cette femme sera en malédiction et en exemple à tout le peuple.
yea, he hath caused her to drink the water, and it hath come to pass, if she hath been defiled, and doth commit a trespass against her husband, that the waters which cause the curse have gone into her for bitter things, and her belly hath swelled, and her thigh hath fallen, and the woman hath become an execration in the midst of her people.
28 Que si elle n’a pas été souillée, elle n’éprouvera aucun mal, et elle aura des enfants.
'And if the woman hath not been defiled, and is clean, then she hath been acquitted, and hath been sown [with] seed.
29 Telle est la loi de la jalousie. Si une femme s’est détournée de son mari, et si elle a été souillée,
'This [is] the law of jealousies, when a wife turneth aside under her husband, and hath been defiled,
30 Et que son mari poussé par un esprit de jalousie, l’amène en présence du Seigneur, et que le prêtre lui fasse selon tout ce qui a été écrit,
or when a spirit of jealousy passeth over a man, and he hath been jealous of his wife, then he hath caused the woman to stand before Jehovah, and the priest hath done to her all this law,
31 Le mari sera sans faute, et elle, elle recevra le châtiment de son iniquité.
and the man hath been acquitted from iniquity, and that woman doth bear her iniquity.'
