1 Livre de la généalogie de Jésus-Christ, fils de David, fils d’Abraham.
THE book of the genealogy of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham.
2 Abraham engendra Isaac. Isaac engendra Jacob. Jacob engendra Juda et ses frères.
Abraham begat Isaac, and Isaac begat Jacob, and Jacob begat Judas and his brethren,
3 Juda engendra de Thamar, Pharès et Zara. Pharès engendra Esron. Esron engendra Aram.
and Judas begat Phares, and Zara of Thamar, and Phares begat Esrom, and Esrom begat Aram;
4 Aram engendra Aminadab. Aminadab engendra Naasson. Naasson engendra Salmon.
and Aram begat Amminadab, and Amminadab begat Naasson, and Naasson begat Salmon,
5 Salmon engendra de Rahab, Booz. Booz engendra de Ruth, Obed. Obed engendra Jessé. Et Jessé engendra David, roi.
and Salmon begat Boaz of Rachab, and Boaz begat Obed of Ruth, and Obed begat Jesse,
6 David, roi, engendra Salomon, de celle qui fut femme d’Urie.
and Jesse begat David the king, and David the king begat Solomon of her that had been the wife of Urias,
7 Salomon engendra Roboam. Roboam engendra Abias. Abias engendra Asa.
and Solomon begat Roboam, and Roboam begat Abia, and Abia begat Asa,
8 Asa engendra Josaphat. Josaphat engendra Joram. Joram engendra Ozias.
and Asa begat Josaphat, and Josaphat begat Joram, and Joram begat Ozias,
9 Ozias engendra Joatham. Joatham engendra Achaz. Achaz engendra Ezéchias.
and Ozias begat Joatham, and Joatham begat Ahaz, and Ahaz begat Hezekias,
10 Ezéchias engendra Manassé. Manassé engendra Amon. Amon engendra Josias.
and Hezekias begat Manasses, and Manasses begat Amon, and Amon begat Josias,
11 Josias engendra Jéchonias et ses frères vers la transmigration de Babylone.
and Josias begat Jechonias and his brethren, about the time they were carried away to Babylon,
12 Et après la transmigration de Babylone, Jéchonias engendra Salathiel. Salathiel engendra Zorobabel.
and after they were brought to Babylon, Jechonias begat Salathiel, and Salathiel begat Zorobabel,
13 Zorobabel engendra Ahiud. Ahiud engendra Eliacim. Eliacim engendra Azor.
and Zorobabel begat Abiud, and Abiud begat Eliakim, and Eliakim begat Azor,
14 Azor engendra Sadoc. Sadoc engendra Achim. Achim engendra Eliud.
and Azor begat Sadoc, and Sadoc begat Achim, and Achim begat Eliud,
15 Eliud engendra Eléazar. Eléazar engendra Mathan. Mathan engendra Jacob.
and Eliud begat Eleazar, and Eleazar begat Matthan, and Matthan begat Jacob,
16 Et Jacob engendra Joseph, époux de Marie, de laquelle est né Jésus, qui est appelé Christ.
and Jacob begat Joseph, the husband of Mary, of whom is born Jesus, who is called Christ.
17 Il y a donc en tout, d’Abraham jusqu’à David, quatorze générations; de David jusqu’à la transmigration de Babylone, quatorze générations; et de la transmigration de Babylone jusqu’au Christ, quatorze générations.
So all the generations from Abraham to David are fourteen generations, and from David to the carrying away into Babylon fourteen generations, and from the carrying away into Babylon unto Christ fourteen generations.
18 Or telle fut la naissance du Christ: Marie, sa mère, étant fiancée à Joseph, avant qu’ils vinssent ensemble, il se trouva qu’elle avait conçu de l’Esprit-Saint.
Now the generation of Jesus Christ was attended with these circumstances: His mother Mary being betrothed to Joseph, before they cohabited together, she was found with child from the Holy Spirit.
19 Mais Joseph, son mari, qui était un homme juste, ne voulant pas la diffamer, résolut de la renvoyer secrètement.
Then Joseph her husband being a just man, and not willing to expose her publicly, designed to put her away privately.
20 Et comme il pensait à ces choses, voici qu’un ange du Seigneur lui apparut en songe, disant: Joseph, fils de David, ne crains point de prendre avec toi Marie, ta femme; car ce qui a été engendré en elle est du Saint-Esprit;
And as he was revolving the matter in his mind, behold, an angel of the Lord in a dream appeared unto him, saying, Joseph, son of David, fear not to take Mary for thy wife, for that which is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit.
21 Elle enfantera un fils auquel tu donneras le nom de Jésus; car c’est lui qui sauvera son peuple de ses péchés.
And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name Jesus, for he shall save his people from their sins.
22 Or tout cela se fit pour que fût accomplie cette parole que le Seigneur a dite par le prophète:
Now the whole of this was done, that what was spoken of the Lord, by the prophet, might be fulfilled, saying,
23 Voilà que la Vierge concevra, et enfantera un fils, et on le nommera Emmanuel, ce que l’on interprète par: Dieu avec nous.
“A virgin shall be with child and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Immanuel,” which is being interpreted, God with us.
24 Ainsi réveillé de son sommeil, Joseph fit comme l’ange du Seigneur lui avait ordonné, et prit sa femme avec lui.
Then Joseph when arisen from sleep, did as the angel of the Lord commanded him, and took his wife;
25 Or il ne l’avait point connue, quand elle enfanta son fils premier-né, à qui il donna le nom de Jésus.
and he knew her not, until she had brought forth her son, the first begotten, and he called his name Jesus.
