Matthieu 4
1 Alors Jésus fut conduit par l’Esprit dans le désert pour y être tenté par le diable.
Then Jesus was carried up into the wilderness by the Spirit to be tempted of the devil:
2 Et lorsqu’il eut jeûné quarante jours et quarante nuits, il eut faim.
and having fasted forty days and forty nights, afterwards he hungered.
3 Et le tentateur s’approchant, lui dit: Si vous êtes le Fils de Dieu, dites que ces pierres deviennent des pains.
And the tempter coming up to him said, If thou be Son of God, speak, that these stones may become loaves of bread.
4 Jésus, répondant, dit: Il est écrit: L’homme ne vit pas seulement de pain, mais de toute parole qui sort de la bouche de Dieu.
But he answering said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word which goes out through God's mouth.
5 Le diable alors le transporta dans la cité sainte et le plaça sur le haut du temple,
Then the devil takes him to the holy city, and sets him upon the edge of the temple,
6 Et il lui dit: Si vous êtes le Fils de Dieu, jetez-vous en bas, car il est écrit: Il vous a confié à ses anges, et ils vous porteront en leurs mains, de peur que vous ne heurtiez votre pied contre quelque pierre.
and says to him, If thou be Son of God cast thyself down; for it is written, He shall give charge to his angels concerning thee, and on [their] hands shall they bear thee, lest in anywise thou strike thy foot against a stone.
7 Jésus lui dit: Il est écrit aussi: Tu ne tenteras point le Seigneur ton Dieu.
Jesus said to him, It is again written, Thou shalt not tempt [the] Lord thy God.
8 Le diable de nouveau le transporta sur une montagne très élevée; il lui montra tous les royaumes du monde et leur gloire,
Again the devil takes him to a very high mountain, and shews him all the kingdoms of the world, and their glory,
9 Et lui dit: Je vous donnerai toutes ces choses, si, vous prosternant, vous m’adorez.
and says to him, All these things will I give thee if, falling down, thou wilt do me homage.
10 Alors Jésus lui dit: Retire-toi, Satan, car il est écrit: Tu adoreras le Seigneur ton Dieu et tu le serviras, lui seul.
Then says Jesus to him, Get thee away, Satan, for it is written, Thou shalt do homage to [the] Lord thy God, and him alone shalt thou serve.
11 Alors le diable le laissa; et voilà que des anges s’approchèrent et ils le servaient.
Then the devil leaves him, and behold, angels came and ministered to him.
12 Mais quand Jésus eut appris que Jean avait été mis en prison, il se retira en Galilée;
But having heard that John was delivered up, he departed into Galilee:
13 Et ayant quitté la ville de Nazareth, il vint demeurer à Capharnaüm, ville maritime sur les confins de Zabulon et de Nephtali;
and having left Nazareth, he went and dwelt at Capernaum, which is on the sea-side in the borders of Zabulon and Nepthalim,
14 Afin que s’accomplît la parole du prophète Isaïe, disant:
that that might be fulfilled which was spoken through Esaias the prophet, saying,
15 La terre de Zabulon et la terre de Nephtali, voie de la mer, au-delà du Jourdain, Galilée des nations,
Land of Zabulon and land of Nepthalim, way of [the] sea beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the nations:
16 Le peuple qui était assis dans les ténèbres a vu une grande lumière; quant à ceux qui étaient assis dans la région de l’ombre de la mort, une lumière s’est levée aussi pour eux.
— the people sitting in darkness has seen a great light, and to those sitting in [the] country and shadow of death, to them has light sprung up.
17 Depuis ce temps-là, Jésus commença à prêcher et à dire: Faites pénitence, car le royaume des cieux approche.
From that time began Jesus to preach and to say, Repent, for the kingdom of the heavens has drawn nigh.
18 Or, marchant le long de la mer de Galilée, Jésus vit deux frères, Simon qui est appelé Pierre, et André, son frère, qui jetaient leurs filets dans la mer (car ils étaient pêcheurs),
And walking by the sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea, for they were fishers;
19 Et il leur dit: Suivez-moi, et je vous ferai devenir pêcheurs d’hommes.
and he says to them, Come after me, and I will make you fishers of men.
20 Et eux aussitôt, quittant leurs filets, le suivirent.
And they, having left their trawl-nets, immediately followed him.
21 Et s’avançant de là, il vit deux autres frères, Jacques, fils de Zébédée, et Jean, son frère, dans leur barque avec Zébédée, leur père, racommodant leurs filets, et il les appela.
And going on thence he saw other two brothers, James the [son] of Zebedee and John his brother, in the ship with Zebedee their father, mending their trawl-nets, and he called them;
22 Et eux, aussitôt, ayant laissé leurs filets et leur père, le suivirent.
and they, having left the ship and their father, immediately followed him.
23 Et Jésus parcourait toute la Galilée enseignant dans leurs synagogues, prêchant l’Évangile du royaume, et guérissant toute langueur et toute infirmité parmi le peuple.
And [Jesus] went round the whole [of] Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the glad tidings of the kingdom, and healing every disease and every bodily weakness among the people.
24 Sa réputation se répandit aussi dans toute la Syrie, de sorte qu’on lui présenta tous les malades, tous ceux qui étaient atteints de souffrances et de maux divers, des démoniaques, des lunatiques, des paralytiques, et il les guérit.
And his fame went out into the whole [of] Syria, and they brought to him all that were ill, suffering under various diseases and pains, and those possessed by demons, and lunatics, and paralytics; and he healed them.
25 Et une grande multitude le suivit de la Galilée, de la Décapole, de Jérusalem, de la Judée et d’au-delà du Jourdain.
And great crowds followed him from Galilee, and Decapolis, and Jerusalem, and Judaea, and beyond the Jordan.
